...Islamic Banking Financial screening of Islamic equity funds Submitted to: Mr Arsalan Ahmed Submitted By: Muhammad Waqas l10-4747 Haris Naeem l10-4657 Dated: April 9, 2013 Background: While elimination of "Riba" or interest in all its forms is an important feature of the Islamic financial system, Islamic banking is much more. At the heart of Islam is a sense of cooperation, to help one another according to principles of goodness and piety (but not to cooperate in evil or malice). In essence, it aims to eliminate exploitation and to establish a just society by the application of the Shari'ah or Islamic rulings to the operations of banks and other financial institutions. To ensure compliance to the Shari'ah, Islamic banks use the services of religious boards comprised of Shari'ah scholars. Islamic finance may be viewed as a form of ethical investing, or ethical lending, except that no loans are possible unless they are interest-free. Among the ethical restrictions is the prohibition on alcohol and gambling and the consumption of pork. Islamic funds would never knowingly invest in companies involved in gambling, alcoholic beverages, or porcine food products. Its practitioners and clients need not be Muslim, but they must accept the ethical restrictions underscored by Islamic values. Financial Equity ratios: These three ration define the criteria for Islamic equity * Leverage ratio < 33% * Cash + interest bearing securities ratio < 33% * Liquidity ratio < 45%...

Definition of international banking Banking transactions crossing national boundaries International lending: • all claims of domestic banks offices on foreign residents • claims of foreign bank offices on local residents • claims of domestic bank offices on domestic residents in foreign currency Deposits similarly classified (by residence of bank or depositor, or currency) Eurocurrency deposits – placed with banks outside the country whose currency the deposits are denominated in (not necessarily in euros!) Features of international banking Key aspects: currency risk and complexity of credit risk besides typical banking risks Competition for market share among banks (typically spreads very narrow) Cyclical nature, with periodic crises Competition for bank loans from the international bond market (close substitutes for loans) Importance of international interbank market (IIBM) as source of liquidity and funding for banks, and risks arising Role...

The use of sick time has increased, overall performance is poor and complaints from the hospital staff are on the rise. Barbara and her management team have not been able to determine why morale is down. The exit interviews that are currently used are not pinpointing the reasons why employees are leaving. Conclusions The data used in the survey is beneficial to the research into why employment morale has decreased for the past several months. Therefore, a questionnaire was designed to examine dependent variable which, “is the key factor that you want to explain or predict and that is affected by some other factors …scholars have emphasized productivity, absenteeism, turnover, and job satisfaction” (Robbins & Judge p. 25). Brand Name: Group Members: Meat One Nabeel Yousaf Faiza Zafar Hirah Rehman Khan Kanza Faiz Mariam Siddiqui Muhammad Waqas Rehman Grade (out of 10) 7 Overall Impressions As A Client As a client, I think that you put a good effort into the preparation of this brand assessment. You covered a majority of the areas that were expected and showed that had a good grasp of the market position and vision of the company. I would have liked to see more of an analysis of the competitors in the market to Meat One. While I understand K&N’s being a competitor, why would you consider Makro and Metro Cash & Carry without looking at The Meat Shop (Zamzama) and local butchers that are available at everyone’s doorsteps? This makes me wonder why you would limit the competition. Strengths of the Assessment • • Well researched Properly defined brand characteristics and potential value for “consumers” Weaknesses of the Assessment I think that you needed to cover a few things that are missing in the brand assessment: • What about price points? Understanding that Meat One is significantly higher than most of its competitors, why would I consider going to them? If you look at K&N’s, who you listed as a competitor, the price difference on chicken products are significantly different. What about availability? K&N’s is available at any store in Pakistan, whereas Meat One can only be purchased at a Meat One outlet...
