With this hard economic time we are in, we head into the true shortage years; hospitals cannot afford to lose critical personnel. It is time for management to be proactive and focus on retaining your best employees. There are many benefits if you implement a comprehensive retention program in your organization. It highlights the investment made in retaining your staff, and provides additional benefits.
What are some of the benefits on implementing this kind of program:
• The ability to recruit and retain staff of all ages
• Preservation of skills, knowledge and experience
• Fewer medical errors and better clinical outcomes
• Lower employee turnover
• Increased job satisfaction
You also have to keep in mind that each organization has different requirements and issues. You may need to form a team to examine all areas of the organization to see what needs to be fixed or what is working, each department may be doing something different so you need to look at trends. It may be helpful to get all department heads on this team to collaborate on the efforts to get everyone thinking in the same direction, so there will be no confusion down the road.
