Different Kinds of Disabilities

...Assignment #4 1 Grand Canyon University: SPE-226 October 5, 2013 Different Kinds of Disabilities There are several different types of disabilities a child may have. There are disabilities such as intellectual disabilities, autism, severe disabilities, and multiple disabilities. All disabilities are different. They have different cause and may have different effects on the students learning. Intellectual Disabilities Intellectual disability by definition is a disability characterized by significant limitations in both intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior, which covers many everyday social and practice skills. This disability originates before the age of 18 (aaid.org). Intelligence tests are given to gauge if a person has an intellectual disability. Another test used is adaptive behavior scales. Students are observed to see if they have the ability to act appropriately in social situations and if they have the ability to take care of their personal needs (i.e. hygiene). Using both tests, a person can be diagnosed with an intellectual disability, which can be described as mild, moderate, severe, or profound. Intellectual disabilities may occur for a number of reasons. Although the causes are not always known, there are a few known causes such as sociocultural influences, biomedical factors, behavioral factors and unknown prenatal influences (Hardman, Drew & Egan 2011). Training and Development

...incorporate this in my paper. Then I looked into the mirror and asked myself, who are you, really and the answer came back to me. I am someone that wears many different hats. Some are quite perplexed but most are just that of the average guy, Average, that’s one word I never use in describing myself, for I always think of me as very extraordinary. So I decided to share with the world who I really am. It is amazing that when asked, “who am I” the first thing that comes to mind is “what am I”. So often we define ourselves by the “what’s” (job title, social status, degrees and accolades, etc.) rather than the “who’s” (believer in Jesus Christ, loving mother, dedicated to meeting the needs of friends and love ones). When beginning this assinment the major things that came to mind were the what’s rather than who and what are my worldviews? For me it took a lot of thought and examination to really determine “Who Am I”. This paper will demonstrate who I am from creation, early childhood, teen years, early adulthood, until present and what is the purpose of my life. There are many circumstances surrounding the real JoAnn Burchett-Stewart. I am grateful that God made me a loving, caring, generous, person. I try to treat people the way that I want to be treated. The worldview that I feel is mostly incorporated in my life is...
