Functions of Management

Functions of Management
Quite a few companies in the world today use an historical secret from the Chinese on the essentials of management from C level executives to the very basic levels of management. These essentials are based on four functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. There is a variety of responsibilities and actions associated to each task of management, and fluctuate depending on precise structure when practicing management. The four main tasks of management are as important as they ever were, and still present the fundamentals needed in any corporation, small business, or government entity (Bateman & Snell, 2009). Planning is the basis of management that the other three functions are built on. Managers utilize the planning function to plan for the future, and so they are able to foresee issues by deciding on what events to stay away from. Consequently, planning effectively can be the differentiating factor of an unsuccessful and a successful manager. An effective manager needs to take consistent steps when planning, and keep in mind the organizational goals that need to be achieved.
For the military, it is the responsibility of each commanding officer at every level to plan a soldier’s redeployment and deployment. The commanding officers main objective is to making sure all soldiers that were deployed with them, make it home to their families safely. The commanding officer evaluates the mission report to plan which resources are required to bring to battle. Next, the commanding officer views the plan of movement issued by the United States, making certain there are sources obtainable for the soldiers during their movement, as well as when they arrive at their required destination. Maintained, and extended operations must be accomplished for a successful assignment, logistical support

Functions of Management

...Functions of Management Vicki Gould MGT 330 December 19, 2011 Matthew Gerrell Functions of Management In management four functions are used to ensure that tasks are accomplished and jobs are done properly. These four functions are Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling. Planning is the process of determining the tasks that need accomplished and deciding on the actions that need to be taken to achieve the tasks at hand. Planning activities include analyzing current situations, anticipating the future, determining objectives, deciding what types of activities the company will use, choosing strategies, and deciding on resources needed to achieve the goals (Thomas S. Bateman, 2009). Planning relates to my organization in many ways. Each week we have a managers meeting to determine the amount of waste that we have, the labor control, cleanliness, planned maintenance, any promotions coming up, the amount of product sold, and the cash variance. In discussing these areas we determine what we can do to control them to make a profit by looking at the numbers from the previous week we can determine if we are making the goal for the month or if we are missing in certain areas. For instance for our variance for the month our goal is $321 the first week of the month our total was $5.19 which meant we started out good the next week we were at $204. This showed us that when counting registers the amount up and down was way off, and we need to be more careful in our counting....

Organizing Paper

...MGT 330 Organizing Paper December 18, 2010 Kelly Wagner Organizing Paper Organizing is a function of management that Wal-Mart seems to utilize very well. The company always seems to attract people to the organization, specify job responsibilities, allocate resources, and create conditions so that people can work together (Bateman and Snell, 2009). These are all important organization factors to achieve in any business; and Wal-Mart does a terrific job. Having a company well organize will ensure that the company runs into little or no problems. When a complication does arise, the company will be well organized to handle the situation properly. Wal-Mart achieves utilizing these factors by separating the company into departments such as Human Resource department (HR) and accounting. The Human Resource department is responsible for ensuring the employees are properly trained, creating incentives to attract new employees and to keep the current employees. HR must ensure that all employees understand that a training course must be taken before the official hiring process can begin. HR creates creative ways to attract new employees to the store. The HR department at Wal-Mart offers bonus after so many consecutive days of working, paid holidays, paid vacations, etc. HR is hoping that these offers will entice new employees to want to work at Wal-Mart, and for current employees to want to stay at Wal-Mart (Anonymous, 2009).
