I am bringing forth my thoughts, feelings and understandings of what I have read. This week’s poem that I have chosen is a “Woman’s Work”, by Julia Alvarez. As I begin to pick out the poem that I desired. I had to ask questions in analyzing what I was going to read. Questions to help me understand what the author is trying to say. On pages 766-767, Alvarez gives her description of a working woman in a poetic form. From my understanding, in line 1, Alvarez is stating that a woman work is not a high art (Alvarez, Pg. 766). However, in detail she explains the different types of challenges the character known as “the woman”, who struggles as she does her basic routine of cleaning. As I ponder on this week’s readings, I find myself thinking on how my Ancestors had to work in the cotton field and their master’s home. Also, tending to their needs.
