* What are the factors that would influence the Federal Reserve in adjusting the discount rate? * The amount of money that is in the reserve determines the discount rate. The quantity of loanable funds supplied must equal the quantity of loanable funds demanded. The discount rate is an implemented rate set by the Federal Reserve (Thornton, n.d.). The discount rate is the interest rate that the Federal Reserve lends to reserve depositories such as Wells Fargo or Chase Morgan. Each depository has a set of reserve requirements. These loans from the Federal Reserve enable them to meet these requirements. An increase in the discount rate means a decrease in the money supply and a decrease in the discount rate means an increase in the money supply. The discount rate is used to influence the economy. The discount rate is used to stimulate the economy. It helps to stop inflation or to increase spending, depending on the current health of the economy. * * * How does the discount rate affect the decisions of banks in setting their specific interest rates? * Since the discount rate controls the amount of money in the reserve it also affects interest rates on loans in the loanable funds market. A lower discount rate means more money supply which also means a lower interest rate. A high discount the rate equals a lower money supply and a higher interest rate. These all control the health of the economy. Interest rates are the prices that are charged or paid for the use of a financial asset (Colander, 2010). Financial assets are key variables in the financial sector and they can consist of either money or credit cards. However, money does not collect interest unless it is from the loanable funds market. In order for money to be considered in the loanable funds market it must be able to return into the loanable funds market for instance, an individual

Week Four Individual Paper

...Week Four Individual Paper XXX ACC/290 September XX, 2012 XXX Week Four Individual Paper The current reading supports that commercial accounting and generally accepted accounting principles, strongly advise the accrual basis of accounting versus the cash basis of accounting. The accrual basis of accounting confirms that when transactions alter a business’s financial statements they are recorded during the period that the events happened, regardless if there was an exchange of cash or not. An example of the accrual basis would be businesses who recognize revenues earned, regardless if cash was received or not. The accrual basis also recognize when expenses are incurred, even if cash was not paid. The other potential option to the accrual basis is the cash basis. The major difference between the two accounting basis’, is that under the cash basis a business will record their revenue only at the time that cash is received. Additionally, they record expenses only when cash is received. For these reasons, the cash basis of accounting is not allowed under generally accepted accounting principles. This is due to the fact that the cash basis does not record revenue when it is earned, and therefore violates the principle of revenue recognition. At the same time, the cash basis does not allow for recording the expenses as they occur, which is a violation of the matching principle. The cash basis measures can mislead or misrepresent the true financial picture of a...

...What is your job title? My job title is Senior Counselor. I work for St. Cloud Hospital Recovery Plus. What is the target population? The target population that I work with is women in primary chemical dependency treatment. We also have a relatively new program called Family Unity that targets women who are pregnant or men and women who have children. We allow these women to bring their children with them to treatment and reside with them at the residential housing facility. These women also receive parenting education and classes and meet weekly with a parenting counselor. The age group of women I work with is women ages 18 through approximately age 55. We have adolescent programs that address the needs of younger girls and we also have specific programs to address the needs of older women. I chose to work with adult women in primary treatment because I felt a stronger connection with adult women versus children. I did two internships at Recovery Plus and truly felt like I was meant to work with the women in primary treatment. I felt like I wanted to help adult women and give them coping skills to handle their disease of addiction. I also feel like I have more patience to work with adult women. What is the mission statement at the agency? The mission statement of our agency is: As a Catholic, regional hospital, we improve the health and quality of life for the people we serve in a manner that reflects the healing mission of Jesus What services are provided...

It is an unhealthy way of trying to cope with emotional problems. Anorexia nervosa is a mental illness that causes people to obsess about their weight and the food they eat. The individual diagnosed with anorexia nervosa does not want to maintain even the minimal weight considered normal for his or her age and height. The disorder is recognized by insufficient weight along with an intense fear of gaining weight and often-misunderstood awareness of his or her body weight and shape (Anorexia Nervosa, 2011). Anorexia nervosa is diagnosed by four different criteria. These criteria consist of the refusal to uphold a normal weight evidenced by failure to maintain a weight equal to 85% of that expected for his or her height and age. Criteria B include the extreme fear of weight gain or of becoming fat although the individual is obviously underweight. Criteria C is met when the individual exhibits denial about their condition, has troubled perceptions about his or her weight or look or has an obsession with regard to...
