Homework Week One 2

Homework Week One Culture in today’s society will include religious beliefs, family values, behavior and family traditions that have been passed through the years. Culture can affect the way a child is raised and the dynamics of a family. It will also affect the way people live and the environment they live in. There are different types of music, art and food that cultures will enjoy. There are many different types of cultures around the world. I am Spanish and have grown up in a Spanish culture. The most important part of a Spanish culture is family. When I first thought about what my culture is, family was the first thing that came to my mind. Within my family we are close and are there to support each other. My family can always count on each other for help. The Spanish culture makes every effort to teach the children in the family about being respectful, having good manners and family values. When there is a holiday we tend to have big family events and the majority of the family will attend. These events will include music, food, sometimes dancing and a lot of fun. Some of the arts that we enjoy will include dancing and music. When my children were young they took Flamenco Dancing. Flamenco dancing is a traditional folk art dance from Spain. The dresses that the girls wear are sometimes very colorful and have a great amount of material on the bottom with ruffles. This will allow the dress to have a lot of movement. The men will wear a type of suit that is traditionally black and a hat. The music that is played during the performance will usually have a guitar player. They will also dance to Spanish music. I enjoy listening to Spanish music and Mariachi music. This is not what I listen to the majority of the time but I do enjoy it. Mariachi music is popular in New Mexico. Mariachis will have a group of people that will play different instruments and sing Spanish music. Spanish weddings will hire mariachis in addition to a DJ. Spanish food tends to be spicy. My family loves red chili and green chili. We have a freezer filled with both green and red chili that will last the year. I tend to lean towards the red chili. The types of food that we eat will include tacos, enchiladas, burritos, sopapillas, tamales and red chili with meat. This is just a few examples. Red chili enchiladas are my favorite. Burritos are filled with many different things, like meat, cheese, pinto beans, and eggs with chorizo and will have chili in all of them. Tamales with red chili and meat are very good. Tamale has corn masa with red or green chili and pork in the middle. It is wrapped in a corn husk and is steamed cooked. There are many spices that can be found in Spanish food. Homework Week One 3

The majority of Spanish people in New Mexico belong to the Roman Catholic Church. I however am a Christian and attend a Non Denominational Christian Church. In my culture it is very important to attend church and have a relationship with God and Jesus. When we do this our family life and community we live in are affected by this relationship we have with God.
A traditional Spanish family will have the father as the head of the family unit. The Spanish language is spoken in my family on a daily basis. It is important to us to look good and have formal dress when we attend church, work and parties. This is a form of respect to others.
I am very happy that I grew up in a Spanish Culture. I have enjoyed sharing the culture that I grew up in with you. I hope that you enjoyed the information about what our culture is like. I also hope that someday you are able to experience the different types of food we eat, watch some Flamenco dancing and enjoy some Spanish music. That is if you haven’t already experienced my culture. Thank you for your interest in the Spanish Culture.

The involvement of group managers in sharing the responsibilities during various stages of a project is important. Group managers duties are planning, executing, and finalizing projects. In stage one (forming) is where group members focus on the scope of the task, how to approach it, and other related matters. To expand from this stage to the next, each group member relinquishes anxiety and animosity to take the step and risk the likelihood of disagreement among members. In stage two (storming), communication among the members begins. Rivalry and disagreement within the group surface as...

...Running head: LEADERSHIP APPROACH Leadership Approach University of Phoenix Leadership Approach Countless managers work tirelessly each day to help create thriving and dynamic organizations. Some of these managers possess unparalleled leadership qualities while others lack the knowledge and appropriate people skills to motivate and empower employees. Managers and Leaders have varying definitions. A manager can be effective without leadership qualities and a leader can be effective without management skills. However, in chapter one of Organizational Leadership, Yukl (2010) states, “defining managing and leading as distinct roles, processes, or relationships may obscure more than it reveals if it encourages simplistic theories about effective leadership (p. 8). The following paper provides an overview to the leadership approach of behavior as well as provides a description of the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. Behavior Approach The Behavior Approach began in the early 1950s after researchers declared the Trait Approach as being an ineffective means for identifying positive leadership qualities (Yukl, 2010). Researchers believed the key to successful leadership included the positive behaviors management displayed while on the job. Additionally, management stated behavior research falls into two general subcategories: (1) how managers spend their time and the typical patterns of activities, responsibilities and the functions for managerial jobs and (2)...

...Currently, I approach weekly course reading material in a fairly unconventional way. My weekdays are usually incredibly hectic between my job of working with my clients and my day to day personal life with my children, so finding any quality reading time is hard during the day time hours. I generally have all reading material downloaded to my laptop in advance as we all should so I can get in a bit of reading time during my break time and my clients nap time. The problem with this is, even though it is quiet and my break time, there is still quite a bit of activity going on around me having to deal with small odds and ends, breaking any concentration I have and understanding of the text. I do get a small amount of time in peace when I get home and right before the kids get home after school in which I use to get in some reading and study time. This time is definitely quality time as my concentration is at its greatest and I can get something done. The night hours, usually after dinner, is where things have been really difficult as this is the time where the bulk of my study and reading time is. Thankfully my fiancée has begun to rectify this problem for me (when he is home from work himself) by keeping the kids busy with various things and away from me during this time so I can actually get quite a bit done in peace and...

...Week One - Homework Practice Exercises 1 1. The night shift was not necessarily safer. It might just be that there are fewer workers on the night shift. You would need to know the number of workers and the hours they are working to figure out the rate at which accidents happen. This is a problem of a missing denominator. 2. (a) There are many more Camrys on the road than Escalades (b) Because the theft rate is higher, the Escalade is more likely to get stolen. 3. They should look at the complaint rate per hundred prescriptions -- not the total number of complaints. The reason most of the complaints are for CVS pharmacy could easily be because most of the prescriptions are written from CVS pharmacies. It could turn out that CVS pharmacies are doing better than other pharmacies. Practice Exercises 2 4. (a) observational (b) Prisoners who volunteer to take these courses are more likely to be interested in being rehabilitated than the ones who don’t volunteer. The confounding factor created here is the level of prisoner motivation to be rehabilitated: it influences whether or not they take the courses and also whether or not they commit crimes to return to prison. The education program may work well, but you can’t tell from this study because of this confounding factor. (c) A better way would be to choose a random sample of inmates and divide them into "treatment" and "control" groups. You then could offer the treatment group the option of attending counseling...
