According to helpingyoucare.com, if current trends continue as they are, in 39 U.S. states more than 50 percent of adults could be obese by 2030, 13 states could have adult obesity rates above 60% and all 50 states would have obesity rates of more than 44 percent. With these staggering facts, it is no wonder that there are so many diet plans on the market today. I believe that all of us have been on different diets at different times of our lives. Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem are diets that have been around for over 30 years. It is up to the individual to decide which plan would work best for the results which are trying to be achieved. Depending on the different options, convenient but pricey or cooking different foods for yourself, it is up to the individual to choose the diet option that best suits their needs. No doubt, Nutrisystem is a diet of convenience when it is compared to the Weight Watcher’s diet. When using the Nutrisystem diet, all of the food is prepackaged and portion controlled. You don’t have to figure out points or if the food is something you should be eating. All the meals are supplied to you when you order the nutrisystem diet. The only thing you have to add to Nutrisystem is some grocery additions, such as vegetables and smart carbohydrates. Unlike Nutrisystem, the Weight Watcher’s diet has to be calculated with points and measuring different foods. Depending on what you are making, there is not the convenience of using a microwave to cook the meal that you will eat. Weight Watchers will let you eat what you want as long as it enters into the correct point range that you need for the day. In general, Weight Watcher’s can be a cheaper alternative concerning dieting. With the Weight Watcher’s plan, the food is purchased at the grocery store.

...Bariatric Surgery vs. Commercial Diets Odessa Whitehouse COM/155 May 26, 2013 Donna Jay An ABC 20/20 episode in 2012 states that there are about 108 million people on diets in the United States with dieters making four to five attempts at weight loss per year. The video also states that there is approximately $20 billion dollars in annual revenue in the weight loss industry, including diet books, diet drugs, and weight loss surgeries. Even though bariatric surgery is dangerous, it is comparable in cost and effectiveness to commercial diets, with proven, lasting results. More than 1 in 20 (6.3 percent) adults are considered severely or morbidly obese. The prevalence of obesity is similar for both men and women (about 36 percent). About 3 of every 4 men are considered overweight or obese. Approximately 8 percent of women are considered severely or morbidly obese. Metabical-Case Study

...rP os t 4183 APRIL 14, 2010 JOHN A. QUELCH HEATHER BECKHAM op yo Metabical: Pricing, Packaging, and Demand Forecasting for a New Weight-Loss Drug In April 2008, after 10 years of testing and $400 million in research and development costs, Cambridge Sciences Pharmaceuticals’ (CSP) newest prescription drug, Metabical (pronounced Mehtuh-bye-cal), was about to receive its coveted Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. CSP was an international healthcare company with over $25 billion in sales in 2007. The company, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, focused on developing, manufacturing, and marketing products that treated metabolic disorders, gastrointestinal diseases, and immune deficiencies, as well as other chronic and acute medical conditions. Metabical was part of a strategic initiative that would allow CSP to enter the $3.74 billion market for weight-control products in the United States.1 tC CSP’s chief marketing officer, Bernard Long, said of the new product: No Metabical is revolutionary. It will be the first and only prescription drug to receive FDA approval to meet the needs of the millions of individuals struggling with moderate weight-loss goals. Previous prescription weight-loss drugs had negative side effects that, in the agency’s judgment, outweighed the benefits provided to individuals who were not considered obese. Metabical will be approved for use by those looking to shed between 10 to 30 pounds. Initial reviews...
