Philosophy of Free Will and Theology

...who want to provide a defense for their faith, but it is also a problem for Christians, who being faced with suffering and pain on account of evil, and without knowing the thoughts or intentions of God, wish to reconcile the two ideas together. In spite of Mackie’s Logical Argument of Evil proving, some would say, that it is not possible for both God and evil to exist, I believe that it is in fact possible that they exist simultaneously. My reason for believing so stems from the Free-Will Defense, coupled with a deeper understanding and more clearly defined description of the attributes of God and how they work together. I will also highlight scripture that incorporates both the existence of evil as well as the existence of God, who remedies the evil into a greater good, reiterating a point made in premise 4 of Plantinga’s Free Will Defense. In order to walk you through my thought process, I will start with a basic outline of Mackie’s Logical Argument, as well as include why this is a problem for theists. I will then define some ambiguous terms in his argument, and shed some light on the culture-saturated definitions of Christian lingo used in the argument. And finally, I will present the Free-Will Defense and show how this paired with the previous information, along with accounts of evil in scripture, work hand in hand to point us to a more clear understanding of the coexistence of God and evil. J.L. Mackie’s Logical Argument for the problem of evil is built on the foundation...

Please note that your response is not limited to math, science or school-assigned texts. Waiting by Ha Jin reminded me of a theme of life that youth is the time to experiment and that one should not wait for another time for his/her passions to flourish. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho opened my eyes to the treasures within myself as the invention or discovery can be right beside you, but you hunt the whole world for it. The Kingdom of the Golden Dragon by Isabel Allende is a book that I still vividly remember even after five years; it taught me the power of writing...

Analysis

...| | Well to start many of the things we have today will not be in use or more by the way of the VCR or Landline style telephone. So this being said, I would assume the phone on the future in only 6 years will be a video conference style call. Calling would be voice activated and name of person said similar to current technology. I would simply say “Call -insert name-“and it would do just that. The phone might be in glasses or a watch with a miniature Bluetooth ear bud smaller than the existing ones today. As for a meal in over 36 years in the year 2050, I would think food is more created by technology then, that all food has had the things that are bad for your health by then, the dangerous parts being taken away or at least replaced with things that are less harmful or not harmful at all. If not a ban on things with today’s push for over all control by telling people what they need. Food will be less of a fresh thing because most stuff sadly will be scientifically designed not grown. The meal will be selected from a touch screen and once picked will be created by a machine. It will be lots less work and 36 years a lot can happen. I have no doubt all these things and more will be happening by then, it’s a future I look forward to seeing but also a push toward a less free thinking society. Doing a homework assignment in 11 years will be far easier than it is today. Hopefully the network won’t fail as often but by then it will be a fiber optic network nationwide. The assistance...

Promotional Bussiness Tools

...than other. Answer: Two local based business that I’ve choose is “Ahmed fabrics “and the other campaign is “Aslam fabrics”. I found Ahmed fabrics more effective campaign because of their advertisement. Advertisement in sense, they put up many Ads on social media i.e. Facebook, Google and many others as well as on cable TVs and billboard’s. This is how they attract people. People start knowing about their packages and people always have the name of something when they need something means let suppose that I wanted to buy a unstitch shirt piece from local business i.e. not from brand. The first name which comes to my mind is “Ahmed fabrics” just because I’ve seen many Ads of that campaign and this campaign usually upload their sale packages i.e. 50% of on entire stock, buy 1 get one free, upto 70% off on so on…. to social media which attract people too much. Aslam fabrics is not so popular or may be many people don’t know about them unless those who’ve visited the area where Aslam fabrics is. Just because they haven’t had any Ads or interaction to people via social media or nothing to advertised locally i.e. no pamphlets, no billboards, so, no one easily know about them. So, the point is this advertisement matters a lot in promotion of your business and increases your sales and generates profit. Question 2: Select a good or a services that you have purchased recently try to retrace the promotional tools that bought the product to your attention were some of those promotional...

...web. Then there is Youtube which is like a database of nothing but videos for people to search. There are also websites like LinkedIn, a professional network. There is also online dating pages and pages for stock markets as well. There are so many social web sites that affect every ones lives in different ways. It is amazing how I am able to connect with people from school, professional arenas, social arenas, and social networks all by internet. On the internet, we have websites like Facebook. Facebook originally started out for college students only. Now it has evolved into a page that any aged person can have. It is a place to upload pictures and videos. You can keep people updated on your life from across the world. As of right now Facebook has over 845 billion active users. People upload over 250 million photos every day. Facebook has been used to promote celebrities and other businesses. People can have a Facebook page to raise money from a fundraiser or get people interested in their product or business. Statistics show that there are more males on Facebook then females. Also the 55 and up age group grew 922.7% in 2009. It seems like everyone has a Facebook now. Everyone from Kourtney Kardashian to all different sports teams. ( The only reason I know this is because my 54 year old father told me he was friends with Kourtney Kardashian.) Back to sports on Facebook, no one really needs to watch a sports game because it will be posted on the Facebook site when it is over...

Privacy vs. Publicity

...them fully yelling at the other. After a minute or so, you then notice someone else at a different table with their phone out, video recording the whole fiasco at the table with the young couple. They seem to be enjoying the moment with their group of friends at the table, and your over hear the person with the video mention they plan to upload it straight to Facebook. You realize it's not your business, but you start to wonder: is that really right of that group of people to make a situation like that public? The borderline of privacy and publicity seems to be unsteady with this new, rising age of electronics and technology. Science has taken the human race on an unimaginable journey through time and space. We can fly around the world in less than a day. And yet, this feat used to take months. The same could be said for the way we communicate with one another. Years ago, the most anxious part of the our day was to run out to the mailbox and see if the postal man had brought you a letter of response, be it family or friend. Now days, you can simply take a picture of a family event and upload it to Facebook, Twitter, or any other social networking site for that matter. You can even email it. Social media has not only transformed how we make contact with one another, but also how we view others and the lives they live. It has become a way of life, and the same could be said for cellphones. Nearly 80% of our world population...

21st Century

...at all times by cameras? Somebody is watching every step you take. Doesn’t that creep you out a little? You post something on Facebook and decide to delete it later on; did you know it will always be there no matter how many times you have deleted it. You may not see it, but others can. In today’s society, privacy rarely exists anymore. There are certain tools and gadgets people use when trying to invade somebody’s privacy including hidden cameras and satellites. Privacy no longer exists in my eyes because of all the new technologies and programs allowing the invasion. What is privacy? Do people today really understand what privacy is? Or have they really got to experience some privacy? The definition of privacy is allowing and individual or group to “seclude them or information about themselves and thereby reveal them selectively.” When something is private, it is usually something personal or valuable to someone. Everyone likes privacy, but it is no longer “available.” Everything people hope is private is no longer private. An example is, before data bases were even created a patient’s information was recorded and put into files in a filing cabinet. There were no security precautions preventing another doctor from exploring somebody’s files. A doctor could do anything with the files without anybody knowing because there is no way to find out. Now the doctors have data bases they put the information into. This is not private at all either. Hackers can hack into anything they...

At the end of the story you don't know if the man really saw an unicorn or made it up so his wife would call the police. It really doesn't matter if he saw the unicorn or made it upthe point is that he gained what he wanted he got rid of his wife. The story also teaches a lesson, every little bad thing you do to someone can backfire twice ashard. The woman had called the police and the psychiatrist in the most meanest intention because shewanted to get rid of him, she did not love him after all. So what the man did was that he gave her of her own medicine, when the police asked if he saw an unicorn he replied using the same words that she hadused previously when he told her that there...

Alternate Tax System

...is something that we have lived with for hundreds of years and has become part of life. As a country we have continued to evolve through industry, medicine, technology, etc., has our tax system? Yes, there have been modifications to the system to try and keep up with the changing times, but has this system reached a point that warrants a change? This paper will take a look at the efforts to change our nation’s tax system, the alternate systems being proposed, and how it benefits our people and our country. While researching for this paper, I was amazed at all the information available as well as grass roots campaigns to reform our tax system. While everybody says their plan is “fair” is always up for debate, but goes to show the progression our country can make to change something we don’t feel is quite right. The complexity of the tax codes today allows companies like H & R Block to do annual revenues of $3.8 billion. I think changes can be made where more of that money can go to ourselves rather than to figuring how much money we owe. The Flat Tax is one method that has been at the forefront of this debate. This plan would have one tax rate for all wealthy and middle class taxpayers with the poor paying little to no tax. The rate has generally been 17 percent which for some is much lower than they currently pay. It would eliminate the standard and itemized deductions as well as all exemptions making the tax based off of what you earn in income. Critics say that...

Is It Ok for Companies to Track You

...on in the background of websites, are we being followed and tracked to just be sold off as a product to a marketing company. Many companies such a Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo, Twitter, and Apple all participate in the data collection. This data can be found as a cookie, a post, tweet, search, or an account that you may have with any of these particular companies. Each of these companies states their reasoning for tracking and it always comes down to providing a better experience. I believe that it is ok for companies such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo, Twitter, and Apple to track our searches and compile data about us as long as they keep the advertising online. Once they invade our home life such as phone calls and direct mailing, then I believe that they have gone too far. Nothing is ever truly free these companies are in it to make money and they make considerable amount of revenue from using our information to advertise to use. For now I will enjoy the free services that Google, Facebook and many other sites have to offer. Google the world’s largest search giant has over 1 billion searches per day. (Google, 2010) Google is almost as well-known as Coca-Cola and the users of Google use it daily but what is the cost that these users are being charged. According to Google’s Policies “We collect information to provide better services to all of our users – from figuring out basic stuff like which language you speak, to more complex...

Social Media

...HUM/186 June 15, 2015 Megan McLendon When I first glanced over the criteria for this social media paper, I didn’t know there was a difference between easily obtainable information and social media? After initially reading the questions we should answer, I thought they were the same thing. Every time I searched for information regarding “easily obtainable information”, it was always linked to social media. So was I asked the same question twice or was I missing something? After much thought in deliberation, I came up with another question that help me to distinguish that there is a definite difference social media and easily obtainable information. I asked myself, is it possible to obtain information easily without social media? After that it was like lightning struck, because the answer seemed so simple then. The Merriam-Webster dictionary says to obtain something is to “gain or attain usually by planned action or effort.” (Meriam-Webster 2015) That brings us to our first advantage, the ease of obtaining information. The power of the internet converged with other media outlets and technology has made it extremely easy to gain a variety of information on a countless amount of topics. These topics range from information that you would find in history books to that of the latest hairstyle of Kim Kardashian and everything in-between. Many, if not, most of us are smart phone users. That means we have the speed and convenience of being able to use the internet...

Privacy in the 21st Century

... 10 June, 2013 In today’s society cameras are watching every step you take and every move you make. How do you feel about that? Someone is watching you, whether it is the surveillance cameras at a gas station or it’s the security guard in a shopping mall. Does this make you feel uncomfortable? You post something on Facebook and decide to delete it 5 minutes later, but did you know that it will always be on the internet although you deleted it? You may not see it but others will. In today’s society, personal privacy rarely exists. There are certain devices and tools that people use when trying to invade someone’s privacy including hidden cameras and satellites. ...and watch them grow with the help of a Mott's growth chart. For many of my readers, you have seen Madison grow up right before your very eyes. From our very first post as a baby to her now being a preschooler. However, most people don't realize that Madison was born prematurely. On a routine visit to get checked at 34 weeks, we were told that there was something wrong with her heart and they needed to do an emergency c-section. I can't begin to tell you how scared we (my husband and I) both were. We had an amazing team of doctors and nurses and everything went smoothly. While I saw her for a few minutes after birth, we didn't get to reconnect until the very next day, and she spent an entire week in the hospital before we were able to take her home. When you have a baby who was born early, you tend to monitor every milestone, make sure that they're growing properly because you want them to be "right on time"....

Technology Changed My Life

...What is one invention that has changed your life? Well, mine is a cell phone. It lets you talk, access the internet, play games and much more. A cell phone comes in handy in times like emergencies. Most defiantly so you can call the ambulance, police or even the fire department. Just in case of things happen like fires, robberies or even wrecks, you will have something handy to get a hold of the emergency help. The cell phone will change your life in ways that can be either good or bad. On a cell phone there is a thing called texting. Texting is a different way of communicating instead of calling someone. You can type a message on your phones keyboard, put in an address (as in a phone number) to who you would like to send a message to and press send and that person will receive the message on their phone. Of course either person can choose to just call at any time, but more than likely the text messages will go back in forth. Texting is popular now a day considering it is a teen’s favorite way to talk to each other. Some teens bully others through texting and is currently one of the most common ways of bullying today. Forward, are types of messages that you can send to someone to see what he or she may think of you, to see if they have something to ask you or even to tell you about an important, even that might be coming up. Some cell phones, but not all, have internet. Like my phone is an Android and you can hook up to someone’s WiFI if it’s not locked and you can check...
