Jungle World

...Bronx Zoo: Jungle World Exhibit General Description: The Jungle world Exhibit at the Bronx Zoo was very interesting. If it wasn’t for this class I probably wouldn’t have ever went there, I am glad that I went because I saw a lot of interesting displays and learned a lot about animals that I have never really known about. My favorite display is the Rainforest display. The display was so real feeling. I saw animals such as ebony and silvered langurs, as well as tree kangaroos, fruit bats, black leopards, tropical birds, toads, and snakes. Jungle World had real plants and full grown trees and flowing water falls, and the only light source came from natural sun light that comes through windows in the ceiling. I learned that Jungle world contains about 90% of all the world’s species of plants and animals live there, but only about half are known to science. The sounds were incredible. The animals made the jungle sound so cheerful and alive. The Jungle was incredible. It was truly amazing to see all of the different animals, and how they all lived in close quarters and kept it alive. When I heard the gibbons singing that was beautiful, I saw how nature alone can make beautiful melodies and duets and flood the jungle with peace and serenity. Display: Description of the Asian Rainforest The Asian Rainforest display was the display that stuck out to me the most. I love the tropics and all of the exotic animals. The sights, sounds and steam...

...I’m never going to another zoo. Outside the Bristol Zoo, in England, there is a parking lot for 150 cars and 8 coaches, or buses. It was manned by a very pleasant attendant with a ticket machine charging cars 1 pound (about $1.40) and coaches 5 (about $7). This parking attendant worked there solid for all of 25 years. Then, one day, he just didn't turn up for work. "Oh well", said Bristol Zoo Management, "we'd better phone up the City Council and get them to send a new parking attendant..." "Er... no", said the Council, "that parking lot is your responsibility." "Er... no", said Bristol Zoo management, "the attendant was employed by the City Council, wasn't he?" "Er... NO!" insisted the Council. Sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain, is some bloke who had been taking the parking lot fees, estimated at 400 pounds (about $560) per day at Bristol Zoo for the last 25 years. Assuming 7 days a week, this amounts to just over 3.6 million pounds ($7 million). My granddad would always tell me funny stories like that before we would go to the zoo. We would only ever go to the same zoo because my granddad liked this one lady monkey that was there. Couple years after my granddad had died from aids I found out how he got the aids he shagged that lady chimp when he was drunk and that’s why I’m never going to the zoo again. I once went to a zoo but jihadi john was there and I got shot up and died and that’s why I’m never going to the zoo again cause I’m...

Giza Zoo

...MONTH: March 2008 Could the Giza Zoo become a rescue center?   CAIRO--Little changed in 117 years, the Giza Zoo is either the best of zoos or the worst of zoos, according to many noisy authorities, and may actually be a bit of both. The animal collection is distinctly idiosyncratic and of little value from a conservation perspective, since most of the examples of rare species represent inbred genetic lines. Yet the zoo does include enough lions, elephants, hippos, zebras, giraffes, and monkeys to satisfy most visitors. The animal care attracts far more complaints than the variety. Much ridiculed by non-Egyptians, the exhibits of Rottweilers, Dobermans, German shepherds, and other dog breeds are of interest, albeit apparently declining, in a society where keeping pet dogs is still rare, cold climate breeds are seldom seen, and most dogs are rat-catchers and scavengers. People, many of them elderly, who might never keep a dog from fear of landlord hostility or social ostracism come to feed and pet the zoo dogs. Most of the Giza Zoo is a gathering place for teenagers, but the quiet corner housing the dogs, ducks, and geese is something of a senior center. The Giza Zoo is among the more enduring works of Khedive Ismail, who at age 33 in 1863 inherited the governance of Egypt as senior
representative of the Turkish-based Ottoman Empire. Khedive Ismail in 1869 opened the Suez Canal, 10 years after a French corporation began digging it, and in 1875 turned the canal over to the...

If I Go To Great America

...You might have heard of it, it’s this huge mall in Minnesota, it’s thought of as this magical place to go shopping and find everything you will ever need. Even though I don’t like shopping I went anyway. We left on a warm summer morning. Even though she wasn’t even living with us at the time my older sister Liz came with us. It took us more than 6 hours to reach our hotel, which was right next to the mall. We unpacked and walked across the street to the mall. We got there earlier in the morning so none of the stores were open. The mall was dark and creepy, you couldn’t even imagine that just an hour and a half later it would be filled with families, and the smell of unchanged diapers. Does anyone ever change their kids diapers for chrissake? Then we got bored and decided to go back to the hotel and wait for my older sister who came in a different...

'Death And Dying At The Zoo'

...Throughout the world, Zoos and Aquariums are a very popular attraction for people of all ages. Every year thousands of people wait in ongoing lines to visit their favorite animal they only get to see on television. Little do they know, they are feeding into another reality. It is a reality of unfairness, cruelty, and depression. The animals in captivity get no chance to live the way they were born to live. They are held in tiny, small spaces only for the luxury of humans, with no regards to the animals’ natural wants. Zoos and Aquariums are inhumane and have nothing but negative effects on the animals being held. Animals that are held in Zoos and Aquariums do not get fair treatment nor freedom. The author of “Death and Dying At The Zoo,” Mary P. Benbow, uses a very powerful quote in her article to explain this. “Once an animal enters a zoo, it is essentially dead. Stripped of its behavior, social context and ecological milieu, a lion is no longer a lion, but a bag of DNA waiting for its next meal, a chance to copy its DNA or death,” (381). Visitors of the Zoos and Aquariums are beginning to become aware of this struggle. Barbra Woods, and author of the article called “Good Zoo/Bad Zoo: Visitor Experiences in Captive Settings” explains how people felt when they went to...

Animals In Captivity

...Aladdin is a full grown 14,000 pound African elephant that on average is estimated to walk a distance of 30 miles every single day (Neyman 1). Zoos are unable to provide a vast amount of space to fit animal needs. Due to the facility being unable to meet Aladdin's need to have an abundance in space he can develop physical and emotional problems. Catherine Doyle, director of the elephant campaign For In Defence of Animals, stated that, "Zoos are incapable of providing the space and natural conditions that elephants need, If they can’t they shouldn’t keep elephants” (Reeves 1). This beautiful living creature is being confined in the tight space that just depresses him. Not to mention that Aladdin has no mate or even another elephant to keep him company which adds to the development of health problems. The ethical treatment of animals in captivity needs to improve significantly because keeping animals in closed proximities deprives them of their most basic needs, causes psychological problems, and also increases stress. The animals kept in zoos are restricted by the rules and regulations set by management. The zoo's set so many restrictions towards the animals due to safety regulations. The management in the zoo's decides everything for the...

Oliver K Woodman

...Matthew C. Tucker May, 2016 Matthew, I am sending Oliver K. Woodman back to you, as our journey together has come to an end. Oliver had very many adventures here with us, and went to so many cool places and saw so many things. I hope Mr. Woodman enjoyed his stay with us, as we enjoyed having him, even though he doesn’t say much. One of the first adventures we shared with Mr. Woodman was Cinco de Mayo (May 5th). On this day, long ago the Mexican government defeated the French armies in the Battle of Puebla in the year 1862. Over the years, this victory has become a celebration of Mexican culture. This year, Oliver joined the whole Tucker family as we dined at a local Mexican restaurant. It was pretty evident that Oliver was a big fan of the chips and salsa, because he almost ate the whole bowl! On his next big adventure, Rachel took Oliver with her to work at the Veterinarian clinic. It was there that Oliver got to use a stethoscope to listen to the heartbeat and lungs of several different animals, including dogs and cats to help make sure they are healthy. Oliver learned that it takes a lot of work to keep our pets healthy. He said he really enjoyed the visit, but if he gets to visit again, he will be sure to have lots of doggie mints! Rachel also took Oliver to the square of Covington, Georgia. It’s the small town where we live, and the square is very old. Covington has been around for a long time, and many of the houses around the square are historical...

Personal Narrative: My Trip To Texas

...I was like 11. Texas is an amazing place to go to and I am going to tell about when my family and I went to Texas for a vacation. We decided to go to Texas to go to Sea World and to go to the AT&T Stadium where the Dallas Cowboys play; except I didn’t know about the AT&T Stadium part. We knew the trip was going to be long but we were ready. It kinda took a while, like about two to three hours, to get to Kansas but we already knew that. Once we got out of Iowa the trip there went pretty fast, because we were in a new state and it was cool to see all the new landmarks and towns. My family and I are Iowa State fans and we knew that we were in Jayhawk Country when we got out of the car at Wichita. We went on the Kansas University campus and once we got there we saw so many Jayhawk fans, it seemed like we were the only Iowa State fans there it was extremely awkward. When we got out of the car we went to the best ice cream place ever. It was so good even though I just got plain vanilla. Then after our treats, we were off to Texas again after spending the night in the hotel. The hotel we...

Strategic Thinking

...about, access, view, and creates the future for themselves and their associates. It is more than responding to day-to-day as well as long-term problems, opportunities, and new realities; it is creating tomorrow. Strategic thinking is not reactive, but proactive. It focuses on how to create a better future by being proactive and adding value to society-through the accomplishment of high payoff results. Strategic thinking always involves change, and often, profound personal change. It is a change in ones mindset. Strategic thinking is imagining the results one wants to achieve in the future and creating an ideal future by defining and achieving results that adds values to the company. The Houston Public Library can also review how the Houston Zoo went from a city department to a private foundation. Strategy, in business, is the combination of foresight, planning, and decision-making that prepares an enterprise to achieve long-term goals and manage the consequences of contemporary decisions. When creating a strategy the firm needs to decide on both short-term and long-term objectives. The qualities of effective short-term objectives are measurable, priorities, and must be linked to the long-term objectives. Short-term objectives added benefits of values to the firm.
