To that question the answer is easy – the boys had one major difference that drastically influenced their futures: their mothers. Thesis: Wes Moore wrote The Other Wes Moore to show that if children do not have strong parental figures they will not be successful in life. Body Paragraph 1: A. Topic sentence: There are several situations in which Wes’s mother, Mary, does not provide the guidance that her son so desperately needs. B. Context: After skipping school and partying with his friends, Wes comes back to his house visibly intoxicated. Mary and her boyfriend seem to think that Wes’ state is pretty entertaining, and they make fun of him for it. Whereas V lives his life according to the precepts, or lack thereof, inherent to anarchism, he vehemently condemns the blind purposelessness, impropriety, and disorder of total chaos. Both concepts, however, are associated with V’s act of revolution; anarchy and chaos initiate the uprising, and it is up to Evey and the liberated citizenry of Great Britain to either stay the course with anarchy and rebuild their society or allow it to devolve into a state of chaos. A close reading analysis of the panels above reflect V’s beliefs regarding anarchy, chaos, and revolution, and their critical relationship to one another. Immediately, a critique of marriage arises, and we are forced to examine how women are oppressed, either by patriarchy or by stereotypes placed on them as mothers and nurturers. It is evident that both stories serve to highlight the plight of women, though it remains arguable whether a solution is proposed. Gilman’s nameless protagonist goes mad, while Chopin’s “Little Mrs. Sommers” dreads going back to the boring routine of a housewife. The conclusions, as such, do not seem to empower women, but suggests a futility of fighting against patriarchy. Even if the madness of Gilman’s nameless protagonist is seen as a form of transcendental sanity as suggested by some critics, how empowering is it for females to be represented as mad? Besides, her transcendence - if it is interpreted as such – is temporary, for she might be placed in an asylum for further treatment.
