Observable artifacts represents the visual aspect of a culture. Examples of these artifacts include acronyms, manner of dress, awards, myths and stories told about the organization, published lists of values, observable rituals and ceremonies, special parking spaces, decorations and so on (Kinicki, A). Mr. Marchionne moved his office from the top floor to the engineering department. This showed the employees that he planned on being accessible. And that he was wanted to be in the mist of those making the day to day decisions. Mr. Marchionne also rewarded some executives by promoting them when he became the CEO. Espoused values are values that businesses promote. Values promoted by a company should be a direct reflection of what the company stand for. Chrysler’s espoused values are: Follow rules of conduct, Rules of conduct when dealing with third parties, commitment to high ethical standards, quality and protection of the …show more content…
Basic assumption are the hardest to change, due to the fact that, management has to be able to change an employee’s negatives views about the company. Early on at Chrysler, one negative assumption was that the company had to offer double discounts just to make a profit on its products. “One of the more frustrating problems for Mr. Marchionne had been the use of heavy rebates and other incentives to maintain sales—an issue that has plagued General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. over the years.” (Kinicki, A). Mr.Marchionne was upset that Chrysler was basically giving cars away by doubling discounts. He fired the guy that was responsible and stopped doubling rebates. Another negative basic assumption was that the company was set in its old ways, and that was what drove it to bankruptcy. (Kinicki, A) Mr. Marchionne set out to change that assumption by replacing executives though 15-minute interviews. He also started weekly meetings with his team and included Fiat
