Seabiscuit , is a very unique book about an American horse whose name is, you guessed it, Seabiscuit. Seabiscuit became a household name in the horse racing business in the 1930s during the Great Depression. He was a symbol of hope for many Americans during this time. Seabiscuit was the baby of a horse named Swing On. When he was born, he was extremely small, and very ugly, but many thought he had the smarts. He is now being known as the “ugly horse in the Cinderella background.” Seabiscuit now tries to compete in the Santa Anita and nearly wins it. After Seabiscuit almost wins the Santa Anita, Tom sets him up with a race with the champion race horse known as the War Admiral. A couple days before the race Seabiscuit strains a tendon in his leg, and is not able to race. They have scratched in races before, and many people think that they are scared of War Admiral. When Seabiscuit is finally rehabilitated, he has a chance to race in the Santa Anita again, with a chance to be known as the fastest horse in the world. With Red Pollard as his jockey Seabiscuit wins the Santa Anita, and completes a true American underdog story, and becomes the fastest horse in the
