Tattoo represents a lot of things depend on the person. Most people believe that a tattoo is a bad sign and it leads them to find the person as a good or bad. I don’t believe that tattoo can find a person good or bad. I understand where people get their beliefs from, mostly comes from religions and I totally respect that. In my opinion, tattoo is a symbol that represents something important to the person. I have a tattoo and it doesn’t mean I am a bad person; my tattoo represents my hometown; it’s a way of showing how important my hometown is to me, even though I haven’t been living there for almost six years. I know that there are some people getting a tattoo for no specific reason, just because it’s a cool way to show off to their friends,

Military Tattoo Policies

...February 2013 Military Tattoo Policies Hey! Do you have any tattoos? Does it affect your job in any way? Well I know if you are in the military it can affect you. Military tattoo policies vary in each branch. They choose the policy based on, if the tattoos are a distraction from good military order and discipline, where they are located, how inappropriate they are and how many they have. I agree with these policies yet disagree also. Are your tattoos a distraction from good military order and discipline? In the Army tattoos on the hands and the back of the neck are now permitted as long as the tattoos are not extremist, indecent, sexist or racist. In the Coast Guard if any of your tattoos can be seen while in dress blues they are unauthorized, also in the Coast Guard no visible piercings are allowed. In the Marines they are prohibited from having a full sleeve tattoo, it does not look professional in dress blues. What would you say if you saw a man covered in tattoos protecting the president or anyone of high power? Me, personally, I do not think that tattoos that all over the body is professional, military or not if you are in a work environment tattoos should not be shown. Say you were a lawyer, is the judge or others going to take you very serious if you have tattoos on your hands, neck and face? I know I sure wouldn’t. No tattoos may not mean you are a certain kind of person, but they do not look professional. I do not personally have a tattoo, but my girlfriend has one...

...Saturday rolled out and I found myself struggling hard to write this essay – I hadn’t even written a paragraph. I just didn’t know where to begin. I felt like the pages I had made notes on were a foreign language and all of a sudden nothing made sense. I left my printed out version of Freedom from the Known and thought I’d tackle it later, that maybe something miracle would send me into some writing spree. For the next hour, I kept passing by the book and something just didn’t feel write. Why couldn’t I think of anything to write? Did I just spend hours for the past few weeks reading a book that didn’t even make any sense? What was the point on the notes? i took a deep breath of air and slowly just flipped through the first few pages of the book and saw a highlighted line on page 5 (of the PDF version) that said “immaturity lies only in total ignorance of self” and next to it was written Dad. This summer the “smart, goody-two shoes, obeying” Neetu finally rebelled and by that I mean I got a tattoo. It seems pretty standard to either get a tattoo or “whore-out” when you’re trying to rebel. I knew what I wanted, I knew where I wanted it and I know how I...

Tatoos

...TATTOOS I t seems like everyone has tattoo these days. And it's not just anchors, skulls, and battleships. People have found many ways to express themselves with their tattoos. Tattoos are a form of body art, and like all art, some like them and some don't. Nowadays, elderly have bad impression about people with tattoo. As we see today even women are having tattoos. The purpose I choose this topic is to explain that tattoo is an art. THE HISTORY OF TATTOOS History shows that tattooing has existed since 12,000 years BC. The purpose of tattooing has varies from culture to culture and its place on the time line In Borneo, a woman’s particular skill is indicated when they tattooed their symbols on their forearm. Throughout history tattoos have signified membership in a clan or society. For an example, Hells Angels tattoo their particular group symbol. That tradition holds true today shown by the proliferation of images of tigers, snakes, and bird of prey. The Wind

...My Community I would like to think of myself as being part of the tattoo community. We are a diverse and cultural group of people. Tattoos have been dated back as far as 3000 B.C. and were a way for tribes to identify one another. Tattoo derives from the Polynesian word “ta” which means to strike something, and the Tahitian word “tatu” which means to mark something. Europeans adopted this and brought it back to new world and it has become a fast and growing trend among today’s society. Tattooing begins by the artist disinfecting the work area thoroughly by placing bags on bottles to avoid any kind of cross contamination. Then the artist removes all equipment from sterile packaging in front of the client. Then the artist shaving the area and disinfecting the area to be tattooed with a mixture of water and antibacterial soap. The basic components of a tattoo gun are a sterilized needle, a tube system that draws ink through the machine. An electric motor, and a foot pedal, which controls vertical movement of the needle. Then time for the fun part. An electrically powered machine moves a needle in an up and down motion to puncture the skin between 50-120 times per minute. The sound of a tattoo gun can be described as that of a dentist drill. Each time the needle penetrates the skin it deposits a drop of insoluble ink about a millimeter down into the second layer of skin call the dermis. It is put into this layer because the cells in the dermis are more stable, with...

Communication

...from people is seldom used independently. It is used within a series of fallacies such as the "personal attack".The ad hominem fallacy comes from the Latin term for "to the person": that is, the conclusion is to be accepted or rejected because of the person (and the characteristics of that person) involved, rather than the actual argument, or reason(s), supporting the conclusion. Arguments, about hair styles is a prime example. Just because I prefer wearing my hair short, like a man’s hair cut does mean that I’m a gay person. But in today’s society when the norms sees a woman with a man’s cut they assume that you are gay, simply because you are wearing that style on your head. The reason that I like to wear that style is because it is easier for me to manage. But I would be classified a stereotype person to society. Seeing the Beauty Underneath the Ink and Metal

...body modification are tattoos and body piercings (Gay & Whittington, 2002. p. 8). There are many reasons behind why someone would decide to tattoo or pierce their body, along with those reasons there are some regrets, and due to those regrets, there are a few different removal techniques. One of the most common reasons for getting a tattoo is for group identity (Horne, Knox, Zusman, Zusman, 2007 p. 3). There are men and women who have served or are currently serving in our nation’s military that have tattoos that stand for courage, patriotism, defiance of death, and longing for family and loved ones left behind (“Tattoos in the USA,” 2011). It is stated that our current culture can credit the Navy sailors for introducing the art of tattooing to the military due to their coming home from faraway lands with permanent reminders of the places they had been (Van Geete, 2009, para. 1). According to Staff Sgt. Stephanie van Geete, “You could not throw a rock into a military formation without hitting a soldier with at least one tattoo.” Many sailors in the past would get a picture of a submarine ship (“Military tattoos,” 2012). There are sailors past and present that have hula girls wearing grass skirts or pin up style girls wearing a Navy uniform. Some sailors may even have a mermaid, or an anchor due to their nautical symbolism (“Military tattoos,” 2012). Those in the Marines may receive a tattoo of a bulldog, the unofficial mascot of the Marines, or a tattoo of a military issued...

Logical Fallacies

...people have mastered their skills in being argumentative while others are lacking in that department. The following will be a list of 9 different types of argument styles that could take place in one’s argument scenario. We have all been in an argument and more than likely used one or more of these in arguments that we have had in the past. The first logical fallacy to discuss will be Mere Assertion. By definition mere assertion means while arguing one’s point no matter what the opposing party may have to say their argument is right because that person believes it to be the truth. To further explain will an example P1- Mermaids are real and have inhabited the sea since the beginning of time. P2- Mermaids are in fact real and inhabit the sea because I believe they do. C- Mermaids are real and have inhabited the sea since the beginning of time because I believe they do. Therefore due to the fact that I believe that mermaids are real and that they inhabit the sea because I believe this to be true this must be in fact the truth nobody can tell me otherwise. The second logical fallacy to discuss is Circular Reasoning. This occurs when the person arguing their point has matching premise and the conclusions are identical. To give a real life example of this P1- A person with the desire to quit smoking cigarettes has a long road ahead of them. P2- This person...
