As adults we all know how tuff it can be to leave home and be out on our own. You are solely responsible for yourself. Some will go to college and others will go straight into the workforce. No matter what choice we make, as young adults there will be challenges we will face due to choices we make. As a society and/or community we need to ask ourselves what can we do to prepare our children for life without someone taking care of them. Young adults are going to struggle with responsibilities. The youths are forced to survive by any means necessary and our local government is concerned about cutting education, jobs and passing budgets. Our youth are in crisis mode. Many youths are dealing with unstable parents with mental illness; a disruptive home and drugs are a huge concern along with assault among our youths. This crisis cause our youth to seek shelter either with gang members or on the street. Gangs and youth is another form of control. The gang lifestyle offer the youngster a stable family with a warm bed and a full stomach. Who wouldn’t do whatever it takes to keep a roof overhead? My community in California offer two of many programs geared at our juvenile delinquents. The first program is called Wind Youth Services. This program was started in 1994 by two sisters. The nuns rented a small place to help youth who ran away survive on the streets. They provided classes with basic survival skills and resources to break the homelessness cycle. The program provided more youth than space. In 2001 with the help of a Federal Grant, Wind Homeless Shelter was opened. It provided more classes and more volunteers and community outreach. While “The Trout” and “I Samuel 16-17” show the many life lessons both stories show the similarities and differences within the three elements such as language, symbol and theme. In all stories the use of language is often used to keep the reader open minded and interested. Language consists of three main elements such as tone, irony and imagery. In both stories, “The Trout” and “I Samuel 16-17” all three of these elements are used to show or help describe each individual part of the story. But although these stories take place in different times the reader can see that the tone, imagery and irony described by the author are the same, yet also very different.
