What Is Real Success

Today, I want to talk about what everyone wants: success and happiness. No, I'm not trying to give you a philosophy lesson. I'm here to talk about two very simple things. That's it. Just two simple things. Success and the real meaning of happiness. Now of course, everybody wants to be successful. So, what is real success? Ralph Waldo Emerson said his definition of success was to laugh often and to win the respect of intelligent people. A lot of students say that going into a good university is success. Some people say getting into a high position in society is success. What is your definition of success? Becoming a pro gamer? Becoming a CEO of a famous company? Some may be the same, but as you see every person's definition of 'success' is different.
Personal success comes in many different forms and your concept of being a success might not be the same as mine. If you want to be successful in your life, then the very first thing you should do is to take the time to decide exactly what “success” means to you. Never mind what it means to anyone else, what does it mean to you? To some people the concept of being a success is earning a lot of money. In fact society seems to base the whole concept of success primarily by how much money a person earns. I'm often amazed at how many people define success as making (or having) a lot of money. The way I see it, everybody's definition of success can be mapped on a simple grid.
The way a lot of people think, success should be defined as follows:

To my mind, however, a much more sensible definition of success is:

There are two reasons why this definition is better. First, there's no point to being rich if you're not enjoying yourself. Second, you're more likely to get rich if you're happy doing whatever you're doing. Being unhappy, of course, can definitely spur people to action. However, the action should be pointed at trying to become happier–not trying to become richer. Needless to say, if you're struggling to put food in your mouth and keep a roof over your head, none of this applies. When you're just trying to survive, you're not thinking about happiness. Even so, I'd rather be poor and happy than rich and miserable. Of course, all things considered, I'd prefer to be rich and happy rather than poor and happy. However, I believe that it's easier to get rich if you start from a place of being happy–with what you're doing and why you're doing it.
For example, I was taking pure science subjects in my secondary school because my parents said study science subjects will make you a better person and you will become more successful in your future. They want me to be a doctor or engineer because these high-pay jobs are mean to be successful by most people’s standards. But I hate physics, I hate chemistry and I hate biology. I was suffering when I study these subjects. So I just made up my mind to drop science subjects and choose to learn what I really want. I feel myself happier and without those science subjects in my life doesn’t mean that I am not going to be success in other ways.

Many so-called successful people are very unhappy in their personal life. So, we need to ask… Is that what you think of as being a success? Having a personal definition of what success means to you, and then setting goals accordingly, is the only way to make your achievements truly meaningful. Striving to succeed according to somebody else’s standard or definition may win you the admiration of others, but will it bring you a sense of personal accomplishment? If you want to be a success on a level that makes you feel truly satisfied, then I encourage you to take some time right now to write down your personal definition of success. Be specific for each area of your life. Think about what being financially and emotionally successful would feel like. What kind of relationships would represent successful relationships to you? Once you have figured out what is important for you personally you are able to focus on your visions and goals.
Defining success is important, but taking a clear-eyed look at the impact of your definition matters even more. As in most things your intent is important but the results provide the real answers. If helping others through social work is your definition of success, you may make a decent living but you won't get rich... and you must embrace that fact. If you're happy, that’s it. If earning 100 million is your definition of success, you can have a family but it will be almost impossible to spend most of the time with them... and you must embrace that fact. If you're happy, that’s it. So forget traditional definitions of success. Forget what other people think. Ask yourself if you feel happy -- not just at work, not just at home, but overall.
If you are, you're successful. The happier you are the more successful you are. If you aren't happy it's time to rethink how you define success, and start making changes to your professional and personal life that align with that definition, because what you're doing now isn't working for you. And life is way too short for that.
So to conclude everything, I want to say: Do what you want to do and do what you believe is great work. There's always a way. This is true success and true happiness.

Functions of Management Week One

...management stated are planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Each of these functions helps the manager in a specific manner to aid in his managerial role. Many recommend following these four steps in order to achieve the success anticipated for future plans of the company. All four of these functions need to be given an equal amount of time as they are important elements in any organization field. For the sake of this paper will use the Real Estate profession for example. The Four Management Functions and how they relate to Real Estate: Planning Planning is the first tool of the four functions in the management process. The difference between a successful and unsuccessful manager lies within the planning procedure. Planning is the logical thinking through goals and making the decision as to what needs to be accomplished in order to reach the organizations’ objectives. Managers use this process to plan for the future, like a blueprint to foresee problems, decide on the actions to evade difficult issues and to beat the competition. (Bateman, Snell, 2009). Planning is the first step in management and is essential as it facilitates control, valuable in decision making and in the avoidance of business ruin. Any successful Real Estate company has a vision to lead the way to do it better than the next. Although realtors are independent contractors it is important that the company they have affiliated their name with are committed to their goals and...

Education & Philosophy

...significant to life nurtures integrated human beings and not success seeking ones. My intention in writing this paper is not to accomplish another academic goal. I write with feeling for you and me and the world around us. I feel deeply about us changing who we are and the world we live in. I believe in the power of transformation that we can bring about in ourselves as humanity. Our transformation begins with honest self-knowledge. You and I need to get to know our selves. You and I are not separate. We are one. We can understand each other if we start by simply accepting and knowing each of individual selves. When we do that, we naturally extend to understand each other and the world around us. We then begin to see our integration and deep connection with all of life. This sense of integration, of being one, leads to all rightly compassionate action. Compassionate action ends the chaos, confusion and violence we live with today. You and I as adults, have to do this hard work on our own. However, that does not need to be the case for our children. I believe that there is a kind of education that can nurture self-aware, integrated beings. This kind of education is significant to life and deeply connected with natural living. It is in contrast with mainstream education that is disconnected from real living. In this paper, I claim that our current mainstream education approach is aimed at bringing about success but that success is not the fulfilling end result of human existence. Instead...

Education the Key to Success

...Everyone of us is a bundle of unique gifts and talents. Our relative success in life depends on how much we believe in ourselves, trust our own private genius, care for it and let it grow freely. What education does is that it provides us with the opportunity to unravel and realize our inborn talents, while providing us with the skills of thinking and solving problems on our own. Both education and success are relative concepts in the sense that there is a wide difference of opinion regarding what is real education and what is real success. My topic today Is education my key to success that’s why I consider it to be important to me Why is education the key to my success ? Man is what his thoughts make him. Education provides direction to these thoughts. Success is more than just accumulation of material wealth. I believe that success is not a destination but a never ending journey in self exploration. It is unlocking your true potential to make your life itself a work of art. Success has more than one dimensions to it. Acquiring material wealth is not the only one. To what degree have you conquered your self and achieved liberation from wanting and needing things is another indicator of success. Education plays a large role in determining our potential for achieving this success. Just being able to read and write, provides you access to the vast store of human knowledge in the form of books, which is the combined wisdom of ages. A man benefits from the path shown by the great...

Snapple Case Write-Up

...hipsters. Even as it increased its market share, it successfully kept the image of the “little guy” and was appealing due to how “real” the company was. People saw that not only was the drink 100% natural, but the people were too. They kept this image and were able to sell Snapple at a premium price too. When looking at this success in terms of the four P’s of marketing, obviously each P was important. That being said, I think that product and promotion were the two frontrunners, accounting for about 30% of the success each, whereas I see place and price both contributing to 20% of the success of Snapple. Snapple as a product was more than just a drink. The product that the consumer was buying at the time was more than just a natural, relatively healthy, tasty beverage. They were buying its personality, how genuine the company was, and buying into the little guy taking down the corporate giants at the time. For those reasons, Snapple as a product appealed immensely to the select market of young, healthy individuals who did not always want to go with the flow. Once Snapple gained foothold in this market as a “fashion drink” it continued to spread to more and more of these young people. None of this, of course, would be possible without the outstanding job that Snapple did with promotion. They were perceived as this “real” company because that is exactly what they were, and that is how they marketed themselves. They got edgy sponsors such as Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh, who pushed...

...Behind every fact is a face. Behind every statistic is a story. Behind every catch phrase is a young person whose future will be lost if something is not done immediately to change his or her reality. And when it comes to young, African American men, the numbers are staggering and the reality is sobering. Young Black men — across the board — score below their counterparts in other racial and ethnic groups when it comes to graduation rates, literacy rates and college preparedness. And many African American men, in turn, are virtually locked out of employment and are filling up the nation’s prisons in disproportionate numbers Receiving a good education helps empower you, thus making you strong enough to look after yourself in any given situation. It keeps you aware of your given surrounding as well as the rules and regulations of the society you're living in. It's only through knowledge that you can be able to question authority for its negligence or discrepancies. As a whole, people can bring about development only when they know where improvement is necessary for the greater good of mankind. Education helps you understand yourself better, it helps you realize your potential and qualities as a human being. It helps you to tap into latent talent, so that you may be able to sharpen your skills. Another importance of education is that it helps you gain sufficient academic qualification so that you are able to get suitable employment at a later stage. A decent employment...

The Triple Bottom Line Book Report

...Companies Are Achieving Economic, Social, and Environmental Success— and How You Can Too I chose this book because the title drew my attention since the beginning. When I read the title I understood that in this book the Author’s were going to talk about how big corporations deal with sustainability. That for me was really important, as sustainability is such a hard concept to grasp. I believe that the best way to understand about sustainability is with examples and cases that happen in real life. On this book Andrew Savitz and Karl Weber, put all their vast experience and knowledge in sustainable practices and recollect big cases of the corporate world and study them. Some events are about mistakes the corporations did when they failed to understand the Triple bottom Line in their business decisions. Others are great examples of how companies found the “sustainability sweet spot” (a concept of them) and were able to achieve success not only economical, but also social and environmental. The purpose of the authors is to inform and educate the reader about how a company needs to balances social economical and environmental growth on todays world. The books starts with an important introduction, explaining what it is sustainability or at least they try as like I said before is such a hard concept to calculate. Where I believe they nail their explanation is when they start telling us what a sustainable company is and what are the benefits that a sustainable company has. “A...

...and self-objectification, according to Kimberly Bissell of the Journal of Mass Media Ethics. Numerous research studies concur there is a lack of body-type diversity in most media forms. “Real Women Have Curves” and “Real Beauty” campaigns have been overwhelming the media, pushing for women to embrace their curvy figure. Does this send the message that women who are not curvy are not real women or do not have true beauty? In our culture, certain appearances are predisposed to certain stereotypes and health assumptions. Fat is automatically lazy, unhealthy, bad and out of control, while skinny is automatically productive, confident and healthy. Being thin comes with the positive connotation and association of success. Society often links success to being thin, further enforcing its social desirability, according to Kristen E. Van Vonderen and William Kinnally of the Journal of Mass Media Ethics. “It might be surprising to know that weight stigma hurts both thin and fat people,” stated Deb Burgard on the National Eating Disorder Association Website. “In my work with people of all sizes who are struggling with disordered eating, it is clear that a huge factor in their misery is almost always the worry that they will be humiliated and rejected because of their weight – no matter what their weight is.” The term “healthy” is subjective to each individual person. By definition, “healthy” means “in good health.” Furthermore, by definition, health means “the state of being...

The first thing to do before setting out on the uncharted seas of financial security is to make sure you are aware of the dangers and pitfalls. The road is rough and has laid waist to many who have tried before you so be sure that you have what it takes, financially and intellectually. Fortunately there are solutions to this problem, albeit the people you will need to talk too are few and far between, it is good advice before you start that will give you that edge when the going gets rough and the pizazz to ride the crest of the wave when things go well. In this particular case, that freedom leads to the status of the self-employed businessperson. The problem is that just wanting success is never enough to accomplish it. Although freedom leads to self-sufficiency in an ever-changing, increasingly global market, the mere desire for success is a delusion in terms of real-world achievement. So the real question becomes, how can a small startup business avoid bankruptcy? The Golden Idle To begin with, the age-old cliché is true: “It takes money to make money.” This is fully understood by the business gurus of the modern world as under capitalization. History of the Internet: Dot Com Bubble

...The dot-com bubble that occured in the 1990's through the early 2000's was said to have left some major negative impressions on the world of the internet and our economy, but that is not necessarily true. Because of the dot-com bubble, there have been many great outcomes that often goes unnoticed before looking past all of the businesses and internet companies that went under when this bubble finally burst in the early 2000's. In fact, many say that the dot-com bubble and burst was actually a needed cause and effect that has shaped the internet into what it now is today. Many people believe that a lot of the websites that existed during the dot-com bubble would have had some sort of success if it wasn't for the network infrastructure at the time. The thing is, not many people didn't have access to broadband and the websites weren't getting the exposure and full potential that it could have received. This is especially true for some websites, such as Broadcast.com (Altucher Confidential, 2011). This very same thought occurred during the dot-com bubble and computer scientists and engineers realized that there was a very much needed improvement to the infrastructure of the internet. In order to correct this, many businesses in the tech industry began using tax money to lay high-speed fiber optic cables so that the internet would be more accessible in certain cities and states. This is probably one of the most beneficial things that came about from the dot-com bubble because...
