Discuss the differences between low and high-involment media. How would you apply the knowledge of hemispheric lateralization
(split-brain theory) to the development of
TV commercials and print advertisements?
Split Brain Theory suggests that the left brain is responsible for cognitive activities such as reading, speaking, and processing verbal information. The right brain processes non verbal and pictorial information and forms holistic images. Since TV is primarily a pictorial medium, TV viewing is considered to be using right brain, passive, holistic processing of images viewed on screen and TV is regarded as low involvement medium. On the other hand, print media are high involvement because exposure to the print media results in the left brain’s active processing of verbal data and ultimately in cognitive learning. Thus, TV commercial should be short, rich in visual symbolism and repeat frequently. Consumer process and learn TV advertising passively, and the major objective of TV ads should be to form consumer familiarity with the brand and package which will result in the object’s recognition and purchase by consumers.
The objective of print ads is to present detailed – rather than ‘overall image’ – information to generate evaluations of the advantages and disadvantages of the product.

Discuss the roles of extrinsic cues and intrinsic cues in the perceived quality of products.
Intrinsic cues – Physical characteristics of the product itself, size, colour, flavor. Consumers like to believe that they base their evaluation, because that enables them to justify their product decisions as being ‘rational’ or ‘objective’ product
Extrinsic cues – consumers use price, brand image, store image, promotional message. Many studies showed that the packaging influences consumer’s perceptions of

Hourglass Syndrome

...Hourglass Syndrome There is a new medical condition now known as Hourglass Syndrome. What is this? It is a syndrome that you receive waiting on your computer to do whatever tasks you has told it to do. Yes waiting for a computer to load your documents or web sites can get a little frustrating, but do we really need to create a name for it? Even worse, do we need to label it a syndrome? According to Intel, we wait approximately 13 minutes per day using our computer. This relates to 3 days per year totally waiting. How relevant in our lives is this? Do we wait longer than that in the line of Wal-Mart buying groceries? Should we then have a label of line syndrome. There are so many labels out there all ready, should we create another. If so we could have hold music syndrome, and phone automation syndrome, and the press 1 for English syndrome. Labels do not do Americans any good. Most Americans seem to equate the word syndrome with a reason to act out. Television most recently expresses this with a commercial by GameFly. This is a company that rents video games similar to the company NetFlix. The commercial shows teenagers and adults acting crazy and throwing their televisions out windows due to buying a bad video game. Society teaches us to act as spoiled brats if we don’t get our way. The word syndrome seems to help Americans with an excuse to act out in this way. Our society does not show the ability to function as true adults. Everyone seems to want...

Lauren suddenly banged on the car, and there was a piece of paper with writing on it. ...Seminar – 7 Chapter 7 Financial Responsibility Centers Financial Result Control System Financial Result Control System results are defined in monetary terms, most commonly in terms of accounting measures such as revenues, costs, profits, and returns. Advantages of Financial Result Control System  Financial objectives are paramount in for-profit firms.  Financial measures provide a “summary” measure of performance by aggregating the effects of a broad range of operating initiatives across a possibly broad range of markets, products, or activities into a single or a few measures.  Most financial measures are relatively precise and objective.  The cost of implementing financial result controls is often small relative to that of other forms of management control. Types of financial responsibility centers Investment centers Investment centers are responsibility centers whose managers are held accountable for the accounting returns on the investment made to generate those returns. Profit centers Profit centers are responsibility centers whose managers are held accountable for profit which is a measure of the difference between the revenues generated and the costs of generating those revenues. The goal for not-for-profit organization is to break even, or perhaps even incur limited losses. However, for-profit entities is normally not considered desirable to generate higher profits than those budgeted. Two limited forms:  When sales-focused entities are made into...

...reverses the conventional understanding of war as a necessary, but not definitive, element of the development of states, and instead asserts that successful war is the very foundation upon which all states are built. Much of The Prince is devoted to describing exactly what it means to conduct a good war: how to effectively fortify a city, how to treat subjects in newly acquired territories, and how to prevent domestic insurrection that would distract from a successful war. But Machiavelli’s description of war encompasses more than just the direct use of military force—it comprises international diplomacy, domestic politics, tactical strategy, geographic mastery, and historical analysis. Within the context of Machiavelli’s Italy—when cities were constantly threatened by neighboring principalities and the area had suffered through power struggles for many years—his method of viewing almost all affairs of state through a military lens was a timely innovation in political thinking. Goodwill & Hatred To remain in power, a prince must avoid the hatred of his people. It is not necessary for him to be loved; in fact, it is often better for him to be feared. Being hated, however, can cause a prince’s downfall. This assertion might seem incompatible with Machiavelli’s statements on the utility of cruelty, but Machiavelli advocates the use of cruelty only insofar as it does not compromise the long-term goodwill of the people. The people’s goodwill is always the best defense against...

...Jae Clark B. Dela Torre August 22, 2015 NSTP – 1 ACTIVITY 5 Substance abuse education helps individuals learn about reasons for drug and alcohol abuse, the way certain substances can affect the body, how relationships can be affected by addiction. A drug is any substance (with the exception of food and water) which, when taken into the body, alters the body's function either physically and/or psychologically. Too much use of drug, may cause mental/psychological effects in perception, orientation, memory and judgement. It may also cause health and physiological effects like communicable diseases. We’ve learned many things about drugs because we have created a documentary about drug abuse when I was in fourth year. We interview about 4 to 5 people who use drugs. The other said that when you are on drugs, you will feel very brave, alive and strong. Example is marijuana, it makes you high and energetic. His reason about using drugs is curiosity and family problems. Many people turn to drugs because of peer pressure, curiosity, adventure, to feel good, to escape from reality and because of easy access of drugs. There are commonly used drugs. One of the example is Hallucinogens, a drug which can cause hallucination, perception anomalies, and other subjective changes it thoughts, emotions and consciousness. So, using drugs can lead us to abnormalities. Substance seeking behavior can lead us to various criminal and anti-social acts. How could we know if a...

What Is This
