What would you do if you had unlimited resources and finances to investigate a medical problem? I know what I would do. I would investigate the cause of Autism. Autism is a mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts. This is a passion of mines because my three year old son, Nathan, was diagnosed with Autism at the tender age of two. No one know where it came from or how it started. Some experts believe that environmental factors like mercury poisoning, dietary habits and early childhood vaccines can cause Autism. However, none of these theories have been convincingly proven. Having a child with Autism can be very challenging and time consuming. Its hard to communicate with them and their behavior can be all over the place. When my son, Nathan, was first diagnosed with Autism, we could not communicate at all. He would sit, stare into space and not answer to his name. At one point I thought he was deaf because he was so unresponsive.
When we are in public, Nathan tends to fall and spaz out, making it hard to control him. In that moment, it made me feel hopeless like I have no power. As a parent it broke my heart to see my child in this state. I blamed myself for his condition. This is typical with many parents with children on the spectrum. There are services to help these children such as Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy,
ABA Therapy (Applied Behavioral Anaylsis), and Physical Therapy, which my child currently takes. It's starting to work but its still not enough. I need to answers. We all need answers, especially those who have children with Autism. Having unlimited resources would give me the opportunity to further investigate the cause of this disorder and properly if possibly cure it. The pharmaceutical industry is not trying to find a cure for Autism let alone any other diseases because then they would lose money. It’s a supply and demand business and pharmacies want to make sure you keep buying from even though there are cures for these disorders and diseases but it wouldn’t financially benefit large companies. In order for the pharmaceutical industry is able to continue to make money they need to keep these diseases/disorders alive so they can get paid. It is not fair for those who are personally suffering or those who have to take care of their loved ones who are suffering. I wholeheartedly believe this is a problem because when it’s time to get your children vaccinated, doctors want to give your children a ton of shots at once when it was never like that.
Growing up you only received one maybe two vaccinations at a time but now children are receiving 5-7 shots at once saying that it’s mandatory. I wish I would’ve some more research about this because I wouldn’t had allowed them to stick my child so many times. There is no excuse for this world especially doctors to not know exactly what Autism is and the real cause of it. We need answers, we deserve answers! Our loved ones should not have to suffer any longer when there is something that can be done.

...U63594427 January 31, 2005 Case Study: South American Adventures Unlimited 1. To what extent does project management apply to Adventures Unlimited? Each one of their tours is an individual project, since each has a beginning, middle, and end, which have classic project phases, including a definition or selection phase, a planning phase, and an execution phase. Project management involves budgeting of resources, and their resources include their administrative staff and tour guides. In addition, project management includes project selection: the Rodriguezes need to be able to accurately anticipate the costs of each tour that they consider undertaking, so that they may make wise decisions about which tours to operate. Project management includes financial analysis, for instance calculating the net present value of each tour that they are considering offering. In addition, since their tours involve many details, the project planning methods taught in project management would be helpful for them as well. Using gantt charts to plan out the details of each tour would help them to avoid problems that they have had in the past, for instance, having missed a train connection in Blanco Puente. Project planning with Gantt charts would also help them to clearly delineate the details involved for each tour, and to be able to not only plan the logistics of each detail, but anticipate the cost of it as well. 2. What kind of training in project management should the Rodriguezes...

Economic Principle Scarcity

...result in opportunity cost. Economists define scarcity by having seemingly unlimited human wants in a world that has limited resources. Simply put, regardless of the resources available, humans will always want more, therefore, the resources will never be enough. Opportunity costs can be explained in what one thing costs by having another. We have unlimited needs but not unlimited resources so we must constantly make choices about the things most important to us. When we do that, we are weighing the opportunity costs and where we derive the most pleasure or enjoyment. Scarcity and opportunity costs are related because of the unlimited wants with limited resources. It’s a give and take relationship. “If I take ‘A’, I have to forego ‘B’.” Our choices are defined by the resources. As income goes up (capital resource), our opportunity costs might change but scarcity never ceases. Scarcity and shortage are not the same thing. Scarcity exists because humans have unlimited wants regardless of the resources available. A shortage exists because at a given point in time, a shortage of a particular is there because the supply and demand don’t match up. The demand is greater than what the suppliers can or are willing to deliver. Economists cite opportunity costs when they talk about the benefits you could have gotten if you had used an alternative resource. Using alternative resources helps to balance out the difference in opportunity costs and enables users to...

We all suffer from it and spend most of our lives trying to resolve it. Essentially, the economic problem stems from the fact that as humans, we have unlimited wants and needs. A need is something that can be seen as being essential to survival, such as food, water, shelter and warmth. A want is something that we would like to have but which is not essential to survival - a car, the latest version of the PlayStation, that new top you have...

Starting with simple banner ads, Internet advertising has become much more complex and sophisticated. Miniature television screen images, called widgets or gadgets, can carry marketing messages only a few inches high on a Web site, blog, or desktop display. And they contain embedded links to their home sites. Online advertising can take other forms as well example would be viral advertising, which creates a message that is novel or entertaining enough for consumers to forward it to others, spreading it like a virus. Seattle has always had a rumor attached to it as being the one of the nation’s rainiest cities. This is actually not the case at all. Ben Miller of Puget Sound Business Journal referred to a recent study, and said that “Mobile, Ala. was the nation's rainiest city. Seattle didn't even make the top 40” (Miller, 2007). It does however rain in small amounts on many days throughout the year, and this trend seems to affect the Seattle area commute in a derogative way. The challenge of getting to work and other appointments on time can be difficult enough when the sun is out, so rainy weather is an unwelcome...

...Assignment #3 Ducks Unlimited Keystone Conference: Budget Issues Hesham A Aziz BUS 517 Project Management This document presents a discussion about the Ducks Unlimited Keystone Conference: Budget Issues.   As a successful Project Manager for Ducks Unlimited (DU), there are always an unforeseen crisis which may arise unexpectedly - either trouble with getting enough money to cover for the project expenses, a time-driven crisis to meet the required target timeline because there may be insufficient fund and resources to achieve the goal for this project - at the right time and scope. All these elements are interrelated. Each must be managed effectively. All must be managed together and carefully integrated together in order to be a success. In this scenario, the new crisis emerged by having slashed almost ¾ of the original budget and reduced the initial plan budget from $1.2 million down to $280.000. In the light of this new information, the budget has created a tough road ahead to carry on this project, but as a successful manager, one has got to “make it work”. Resources – People, equipment and material required. The new plan will require the manager to move around the resources available and regroup people. Time – Task durations, dependencies, and critical path. A new lay out plan to project a new time schedule for a newly slashed budget. Money – Costs, contingencies, profit (if applicable). New budget has been reduced...

...WHAT ELSE CAN GO WRONG? Joe Van West, President of Appliances Unlimited in Mexico, was thinking about his arrival in Mexico City and his life during the last six months as he was sitting in his office. He remembered getting the phone call late one evening while sitting in front of the TV in his house in Taipei, Taiwan, where he was Operations Manager of the local subsidiary of Appliances Unlimited, a Belgian firm. The phone call was to tell him that Mr. Brian Hodges, the President of the Mexican subsidiary of Appliances Unlimited, had a major heart attack and would retire immediately. Mr. Van West had met Mr. Hodges several times at meetings, but he did not know him very well. The caller, his friend at headquarters, Stijn Verckens, indicated that management at headquarters was looking for a speedy replacement for Hodges, and that Joe Van West should talk to the President of the International Division at Headquarters immediately. Van West had always wanted to run a subsidiary. It would be a great opportunity, and he did tell Verckens that he would think about it. Van West had gotten excellent reviews for his work as Operations Manager in Taipie. He was ready for the next step. He had hoped that there would be an opportunity in Canada or the United States, but he, an American citizen, and his wife, a native of Belgium, had decided a number of years ago that they would go wherever the opportunity presented itself. Understanding History 415

...University 1/7/2015   Vietnam and the 20th Century Experience 7 January 2015 Understanding History When reading through history it is important to understand the past before you can understand the present. There isn’t a way to know how we got to where we are, without knowing where we’ve been. So when dealing with participants in history it is vital that we thoroughly understand where a specific person came from and what they have done. If we were to study individuals without knowing prior context for example the French in Vietnam; if you begin reading in the middle of our textbook in chapter two you would believe the French were going to be in Vietnam for the long haul and were not going to accept defeat. But in all reality, by the end of chapter two the French had all but surrendered and were overpowered and America was forced to come into Vietnam. From there into Chapter three, its hard to find French presence in Vietnam. So without knowing prior context from chapter three on you would have almost little to no clue that the French had tried to take back Vietnam under a nationalist puppet government. This is why it is so very important to know the context of prior history. I do not believe many people in my age group even know the French were involved in Vietnam; I for one had no information about Vietnam other than it was an unpopular war America was in that left many veterans out in the cold because there was no support. After reading two chapters of the text...
