Curiculum Development Paper

...Curriculum Development Paper Identification of the educational need and rationale. Prevention is better than the cure, medical technology and development of hospitals as the focus of health care practice. The CDC estimated a total of 1.7 million patients in the hospital that gets a nosocomial infection and 99,000 will die from the infection. This results to one patient death in every five minutes, hospitalized patients Hospital acquired pneumonia is currently the second most common nosocomial infection in the United States and is associated with high mortality and morbidity (Seymann, 2008). Higher rates of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP), functional decline, pressure ulcers, and falls are a few factors that leads to prolonged bed-rest . HAP Iis a pneumonia that begins within 48 hours after hospitalization and does not incubate at the time of admission. Because individuals with hospital-acquired pneumonia usually have underlying illnesses and are exposed to more dangerous bacteria, it tends to be more deadly than community-acquired pneumonia (Seymann, 2008). Those at risk include patients with a compromised immune system, are HIV positive, have been hospitalized for more than two days, reside in a nursing home, have COPD, diabetes, heart failure, are elderly, alcoholics or have other underlying disorders (Smeltzer, et al). The Soul Of Capitalism By Robert Collins And When Canada Met Andy Warhol

...Both Axel in "The Soul of Capitalism" written by Robert Collins and Andy Warhol in "When Canada Met Andy" written by Nancy Tousley are artists who focus on artistic innovation. Artistic innovation always alone with disputes and it is too perplexing for some people to understand it. Besides, some stereotyped people are mean to new art, because they do not want to make any changes. Andy Warhol is "one of the 20th century's major artistic innovators and most influential artistic". He innovates new arts about printing paintings on soup cans and producing artworks of "icons in American pop culture". However, Canadians dispute his art when he first shows in Canada. No one shows up at his first solo show and his art is not recognized as art. What...

Death of a Salesman

...enter and exit rooms only through doors. But when the action is in a memory, the characters step through the walls and onto the forestage. Willy Loman, a sixty-year-old traveling salesman, enters his home late at night with two large sample cases. His wife, Linda, hears him coming up the stairs to their bedroom. She seems worried that something has happened, that he has wrecked the car again, or that he's ill, but Willy assures her that he is fine, just tired. Sitting on the bed with her, he explains that he came home because he was having trouble staying on the road while he drove, and he is unsure of what caused his distraction. It could've been the coffee he had at a roadside diner or the way he opened the windshield of the car and the scenery and sunshine just washed over him. Whatever it was, it kept taking his mind of the road, and he'd veer onto the shoulder before he knew what was happening. He was so spooked that he drove ten miles an hour all the way home, and now he's tired and grumpy because he's going to miss his morning meeting in Portland, Rhode Island. Linda urges him to talk to his boss about working in the New York area so that he doesn't have to travel...

Death of a Salesman Essay

... In Arthur Miller’s 1949 play “Death of a Salesman”, the main character and father Willy Loman refuses to accept the fact that what he thinks to be the key to success in the business world has sculpted his two sons, Hap and Biff, into a pair of liars and thieves. Charley says something to Willy that pretty much sums up his whole life; he asks him, "When the hell are you going to grow up?" (Miller 1256) Willy spends his entire life in an illusion.   He sees himself as a great man that is popular and successful.   Willy behaves like a child. Willy is like a reckless kid with high ideals and high hopes.   Children always have high hopes for their future. Willy dreams of moving to Alaska where he could work with his hands and be a real man which adds to his many fantasy “what if” moments saying that if he would have just done “A” instead of “B”, he would be a rich and successful business man like everyone else (Miller 1258). Willy truly believes that to be a success in the world all you need is to be physically superior and to be liked by everyone. The downside to this way of thinking is that he doesn’t put in the work or have the drive advance in the business world because all Willy is concerned about is having people know his name and not focusing on why people know his name. Biff wastes his life being a thief and a loner; Biff, along with Hap try to conjure up a crazy idea of putting on a sporting goods exhibition, this is a...

Aviation and the Military

...Aviation and the Military | 30 November2011 | By: Michelle Hays | How the development of Aviation shaped our early twentieth Century Military | On 17 December 1903, just outside of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Orville and Wilbur Wright made a major impact on history when they successfully launched the first motorized airplane; not only on our society as a whole but also the United States military and the way wars would be fought forever. Because of this one specific day in history the Wright brothers are accredited for the first of countless days in our history that we contribute what we know today as aviation. On that one day, the brothers sustained a total of four flights with only a small twelve horse power engine with the longest flight lasting a mere fifty-nine seconds at a distance of 852 feet. On the fourth flight of the day, Flyer 1 tumbled and crashed. Obviously not all was lost, history was made and inventions in the aviation industry began to grow. The historical first flight by Orville and Wilbert Wright did not make the front page news; it was very trivial headlines at the time. For instance, page ten of the Washington Times article dated 19 December 1903 in column four, High Gale No Bar to Flying Machine. The article described the flying machine and how the brothers got off the ground. The New York Tribune 19 December 1903 also had a small article but not until page five; Flying Machine Works Successful Trial by Ohio Men with Machine on Box Kite Plan...

Thomas Hardy

...intellectual ferment as caused by Charles Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species by Means and Natural Selection” (1859), Hardy then lost his faith and never recovered it. Hardy then began to see the world without any ruler or God. He started to think this is why the world is so wretched and terrible because there is no sovereign ruler that could prevent bad episodes from occurring and causing the people of the world to suffer. Thomas Hardy as a poem writer then presented the world as terrible, with the messages that he entailed. After a read into each of his poems during that era, it does appear that the verses expressed the world to be very depressing and utterly unsettling; these poems include “Hap”, “To an Unborn Pauper Child”, “The Man He Killed” and “God’s Education”. The poem “Hap” is a negative poem in tone where Hardy examines how easily joy is taken from his life and the randomness of its elimination, this is suggesting a chaos of pain and suffering. The pessimist tone begins from the start of the poem where Hardy mentions “if but some vengeful god would call to me,”(V-L1) notice the lack of a capital “G” hinting the lack of faith in a greater being. We also discover that the poet’s life is composed of suffering, sorrow and love’s loss. Hardy uses direct speech to create the personality of this suggested “god” who claims “know that thy sorrow is my ecstasy”(V-L3) and “thy love’s loss is my hate’s profiting!”(V-L4) The exclamation mark reinforces the enjoyment...

Self Fulfilling Prophecy

...Topic : The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy in Organisational Behaviour 1. The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy was coined by Robert Merton in 1948, describing it as how (1) an expectation may evoke a behaviour of an individual therefore increasing the chances of it becoming true. Merton concluded that (2) a belief eventually leads to a result as it influences the individual to change their behaviours to match your initial expectations. Example: My coach expects me to do well and he spends more time with me preparing for my competition. I performed well and got a gold medal. 2. Introduction More often that not, the outcomes of events that occur in a person’s life is the product of the concept of self-fulfilling prophecy. In this article, we will address these questions as follow. First, we present the definition of the self-fulfilling prophecies. Second, we will look at the process of the self-fulfilling prophecy and how it is applied in our everyday life. We subsequently identify the effects of the self-fulfilling prophecy. Fourth, we will discuss the relation of self-fulfilling prophecy to stereotypes. Finally, we will conclude by weighing up the pros and cons of the self-fulfilling prophecy and how it can be fully utilised in an organisation. 3. Applications of Self-Fulfilling Prophecies Three steps are involved in the self-fulfilling prophecy process (McShane, Olekalns & Travaglione, 2012). Process begins when Stage (1) ...

Securities Investment

...Section A: Introduction Now a day, investment is one of the most important variables in economics. By investment, economists mean the production of goods that will be used to produce other goods, wherein decision to purchase stock or bonds are thought as investment. An investment theory is a concept based on different factors processing of invests to determine how to choosing the right investments for a particular goal or purpose. When it comes to investing, there is no shortage of investment theories can be applied it to makes the markets tick. Odd Lot Theory is contrarian strategy based of a very simple form of technical analysis which measuring odd lot sales. An odd-lot trade is one of less than 100 shares and only small investors tend to engage in odd-lot transactions How successful an investor or trader following the theory is depends heavily on whether the investor checks the fundamentals of companies that the theory points toward or simply buys blindly. Small investors are not going to be right or wrong all the time, so it is important to distinguish odd lot sales that are occurring from a low-risk tolerance from odd lot sales that are due to bigger problems. Individual investors are more mobile than the big funds and thus can react to severe news faster, so odd lot sales can actually be a precursor to a wider sell-off in a failing stock instead of just a mistake on the part of minor investors. The odd-lot trader is on the correct path as the market is going up that...
