Then, once the vessel reaches the ice floes the sealers run to the shot and wounded seals with their hakapiks, which are large wooden clubs with a curved ice pick at the end to drag the seals across the ice. When the sealers reach the wounded screaming baby seal, they then club it over the head. Hopefully, but rarely does it this happen, the seal will be dead. Finally, the sealer jabs the hakapik pick into the seal’s back to the vessel, where it will be skinned, all the while the seal is shaking and moaning still. This is not an acceptable way to be hunting animals in today’s society. Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) is not big enough to regulate the commercial hunt, and there is too much waste in the seal hunt. The apathy of hunters towards the barbaric manner in which the seals are treated extends to those within the Canadian government. Misguided and crucial errors humans make harm oceans using unsustainable practices which eventually eliminate many species of sea creatures and destroy the water they inhabit and we need for our survival as well. Countries around the world have been heavily positively praised while some have been lauded negatively, for instance, the United States. A crying shame how most countries on Earth seem in continuing spiraling towards ecological harm in an abundance of forms, regarding ocean garbage, coral reefs and oil spills over a twenty-five year period have caused our oceans’ ecology suffering to escalate. Incidents regarding a floating garbage patch in the Pacific, even cruise ships repeating sewage and garbage dumping are atrocious. The problem is, most people do not pay attention and take situations such as these as non-existent. Evidence documented over decades suggest our oceans’ trouble will continue unless change happens sooner rather than later. Change in how we respond to problems should not take years for resolution, because some of the damage may be minute and builds up over time, while some comes in big bunches that there is not time to waste in resolving. There are objects in our solar system that have unfathomable beauty; a few of these beautiful objects being Jupiter and its four Galilean moons. Jupiter is one of the most interesting bodies in the solar system, so it makes sense that its four largest moons are equally fascinating. The Galilean moons are some of the most curious bodies in our solar system. From dead worlds to water worlds to fire worlds, these four moons may hold a lot of answers to some of the mysteries of the solar system. At 5.2 A.Us (Astronomical units – 93,000,000 miles) from the Sun, Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the first of the gas giants (Bennett et. al A-14-15). Being so far away from the Sun, it takes Jupiter about 11.9 Earth years to orbit the Sun (Kerrod 148). Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system; in fact, it is more massive than all the other planets combined! At its equator, the gas giant measures 88,850 miles in diameter (Kerrod 148). Jupiter is so huge that it is eleven times bigger across than Earth. Jupiter’s size, however, does not seem to have any effect on how fast the planet spins on its axis. Earth spins on its axis in about 24 hours, one Earth day. Jupiter has eleven times the diameter as Earth and spins on its axis in approximately 9 hours and 55 minutes (Kerrod 148).
