Mr. Penn then decided to limit his own power, established an assembly, and then he promised to give religious freedoms to all Christians. The economy of the Middle Colonies was supported by trade and staple crops. They maintained a good climate and kept rich soil to grow staple crops. These crops were always needed. Staple crops included wheat, barley and oats. The middle colonies did have slaves to help farm the crops but they used more indentured servants because there were more of a servant population. They traded crops to Great Britain and the West Indies to keep their economy stable. The Southern Colonies were also just as important as the Middle Colonies. They traded fur and provided food for the West Indies. Once the Carolinas, North and South, and Georgia were settled, they had created the Thirteen Colonies that traded within each other and Great Britain. They traded furs and foods that the other colonies were unable to get because of the better climate. Later as the years went by and the colonies grew, their borders became more permanent and the Thirteen Colonies were established.
