I have had many different experiences with schooling over the last eight years. When I first started my undergraduate work, I had just finished high school and I was in no way ready for it. I went to Colorado State University and spent most of the year in isolation from others and getting depressed. The next year I went to Colorado Christian University and put my schooling on the back burner in order to recover. After another unsuccessful year, I knew I needed to take a break from getting my undergraduate degree. I spent the next couple of years looking for the reasons to go through school and discovering what my motivations were. I have felt the call to be a pastor since I was in high school but did not know what exactly that would look like, …show more content…
While it has paid the bills and been a true blessing to have a steady job, it has not been fulfilling the call that God has continued to put in my life. I decided to spend my free time working as an intern with the youth group of the church I grew up in. While at first it was unsettling to work with youth when I was only a few years out of high school myself, I found a renewed love for spreading the gospel to peoples' lives and a desire to do so as effectively as I could. I spent time in personal study of apologetics and theology so that I could answer questions and use the Bible for instruction and inspiration. God did amazing things in the youth ministry during my time there. Many of the students I helped mentor are dear friends and it has been remarkable to watch them grow. After several years, I stepped up as a lay minister and helped start and lead a ministry aimed toward young adults ages 18-30 at the same church. I found out the hard way how a minister can get burnt out without the proper boundaries and support from a congregation. Every waking moment that I was not at work was spent meeting with people and teaching what the Lord has shown

Why I Chose High School

...Why is it that seniors in high school are expected to know what they want to do for the rest of their lives? As misunderstood as that may be, I am proud to say that I know what I want to pursue—what a contradiction. Ever since the beginning of high school, I was told to find what I love to do and make a career out of it. As a result, I wish to attend a fashion based college to earn a bachelor's degree, and have a success career in fashion styling. I believe I have the talent and motivation to get the most out of a great education. Succeeding tremendously in college is a must, so that I can perform at the best of my ability in my future career....

Bridget Mergens Case Study

...What this case is about is when Bridget Mergens wanted to get a religious club in her Public High School for everyone. When the Principal said no they couldn’t make the religious club, that is when it lead to the Supreme court. The reason why this case went to the Supreme court was because the school denied the idea of having a club that included any religious studies because apparently it was “illegal” for them to having anything that had to do religion, therefore when the students rights of freedom of religion were broken, Bridget Mergens went to the Congress and the issue was addressed to the Equal Access Right. Formal/Informal Learning Essay 1

...between grade school and high school and now as an adult still trying to finish my undergraduate degree 10 years after I started it, I find that I’m the type of learner that must be interested in the topic or have a purpose for completing the class. Ever since I was a little girl, I was surrounded by distractions in my life that didn’t allow for me to properly focus on school. I was always able to complete the bare minimum to get by, but never really applied myself to my course studies, unless it was something that I was completely interested in. Studies that, looking back, actually allowed for my brain to rest from the chaotic life it dealt with outside of the classroom. Growing up I always enjoyed the extra-curricular activities as opposed to the general requirements, for example English and History, Economics and Government. Because I struggled with being able to focus while in school, I feel today as an adult I suffer from not knowing about some of the key elements to life. And even though today I realize not knowing these things hinders me at times, I still tend to not have a desire to pursue them to better understand. And the reason for this, are the distractions in my life today. I’ve recognized a pattern in my childhood and in my adulthood and rather than taking responsibility, and taking time out of my busy life to learn and grow as an adult I chose to make excuses. I chose to delay educating myself in these areas that are just as important as the areas I chose to involve...

Thea 101 Actor Assignment

...CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY SHEET The character I am answering in place of is Charlie, the janitor. 1. What is your full name? My name is Charlie Smith. (I chose smith for the last name because it is a fairly common American last name, the most common in fact based on some statistics. I chose a common last name because as a janitor, I would not imagine the probability of me having a name that really stands out as very high, not that jobs have much correlation to ones name) 2. What is your age and date of birth? I am 42 years old. (I chose this age because it fits my understanding of Charlie’s image created through his comments and job. His comment “Women are nothing but girls in long skirts” seemed to indicate his experience with women in life and also an elderly confidence to make a comment that could also be taken as offensive if it was given much thought) 3. What is your ethnic/cultural heritage? I am a Christian from birth. (I have chosen Christianity as my cultural heritage only because of the reference to Calvary in the play by Charlie and also because most Americans, by my knowledge are Christians) 4. What is your religion/spiritual belief system? I believe in Jesus Christ and practice teachings from the Bible regularly. (This is because of the courteous nature of Charlie as depicted in the script) 5. What is your marital status? I am married. (I believe that Charlie is married given his age and seemly maturity, and that it...

Granville T. Woods Scholarship

... I too was nearly prevented from advancing my career just as Granville T. Woods was. Not being able to accept my partial (65%) scholarship to Howard University did hinder me from my original plan but I chose not to give up. I chose to continue to work my way up in my education and career at BCCC instead of taking the simple way out by joining different groups such as the work force, or the military. My goal is to abide at this school for two years and to transfer to a 4 year university. The main component of my goal is the money, and this scholarship would help in achieving this. My family is a normal Middle class family that makes normal middle class wages, and just like most middle class families we have debts that seem to never end. This is the reason why I could not attend Howard University. With the debts that my parents still have they chose to not add on anymore anymore stress by taking out more loans but to instead give me another option, Community College. Even though they have said they can pay for Community College I would prefer them not to have to deal with anymore hassle. Me receiving this scholarship would eliminate the worry of my parents paying for my education and would enable me to focus solely on doing well in school. I am a graduate of Oxon Hill High school's science and technology program. This entails that I had to test to get into the school and if I was accepted I would be agreeing to a more difficult curriculum than a normal high school...

...A Foundation 1 Analysis of a Foundation Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation By: Nonprofit Org. Management: PA 571 Professor: August 19,2012 The name of the organization I chose is Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation http://gatesfoundation.org/. Introduction Today’s recession has forced human service agencies and the government to become partners in order to serve the poor. Government funding and grants have decreased and the needs of the poor have increased. According to an 2010 Urban Institute study on nonprofits, the government depends on nonprofit human service agencies to serve the poor (Boris, 2010). Consequently, human service agencies depend on government funding and grants. A financial shift have caused human service agencies to lose funding or cause the agencies to operate waiting on late payment schedules from the government that result in many organizations having to close their doors to needy people. Well known human service agencies such as Chicago’s Jane Adams Hull House, YMCA, domestic violence shelters, childcare facilities, soup kitchens and organizations serving the youth population have stopped providing programs and services because they do not have the budget to pay for the programs. Although many nonprofit human service agencies are funded by the government, a human service organization must compete to get a piece of the dwindling funding pie for its human service programs. The key assumption of this paper is because of the unreliability of government...

Persuasive Essay

...Persuasive Essay Why I chose to attend WGU Western Governors University LAE1 August 15, 2013 I have chosen to write my essay on why I decided to attend Western Governors University and why I would recommend everyone to do the same. Before I came to Western Governors University, I attended a different online based school that is high profile around the United States. While attending this school I experienced a bit of instability and more of a sales environment than a caring university. For example, the enrollment adviser was very helpful and professional at first. But, after I was officially enrolled and they had received my payment for tuition, it was nearly impossible to reach this individual. Another example of this is the amount of turnover that the university had in its executive office and our department chair. Our business department chair was replaced four times in a matter of twelve months. The cost of this university was also ridiculous, it was approximately four hundred dollars per credit hour, which is extremely expensive. This university was accredited regionally and was well known. After experiencing the salesmanship and instability I started to research other schools that were regionally accredited and had positive reviews. While searching I stumbled upon Western Governors University. After reading just a few facts and reviews, I had already made up my mind to switch. The first factor that really caught my...

Why College Education Is Important to Me

...Andrea Scharen EN110.6.4 “Why College Education is important to me?” College education to me holds the key to a successful career and a brighter future. I chose to go to college right out of high school because I knew I wanted a future in what I love and I already knew what I had to plans to do. I also knew that I couldn’t do what I wanted to do without a college education. I believe without a college education you can only really get a basic job. With a college education, you are more likely to become financially stable in the long run. Having a college or higher education can also equip a person with better life skills and improves an individual’s quality of life. Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to work with children. As I got older I figured out that I wanted to be a teacher. As I hit high school I contemplated even going to college because I was told you can be a basic pre-school teacher without a college education. Though I did not want to just be a basic teacher and I took into consideration that later in life I might want to teach a little older. So I decided a college education was important to have so I can do what I planned. Without a college education you are limited to a basic job. Although with a high school education you may secure a job with good benefits but even that is limited to jobs in service, manufacturing, and construction industries. The argument to that statement is with a college education you can enter a higher level career with a greater...

Gang Prevention

...Gang Intervention Paper Summary Every-time I hear the word “gang members” I get into an emotional state of mind based on the fact that was how I was living as a teenager in South Central Los Angeles. That’s why I chose to do my signature assignment on gang intervention on junior high and high school campuses. My case study was based on a large urban junior high school. The school was experiencing an increase in gang behavior along with an alarming increase in the number of students bringing weapons onto campus. Once I identified the problem of the school, I then started to collect data. According to Dougherty he states that collecting data is the first step to do. By me not knowing what to do prior to this assignment, I felt that this was definitely the correct protocol that needed to be done before I tried to figure out an appropriate intervention. I then had the idea of creating a reward system as my intervention. I realized that dealing with gang members Interventions should be designed using positive behavioral support in such a way that appropriate behavior is rewarded. I chose to use the Client-Centered Case Consultation process because the consultant is viewed as an expert or specialist who can diagnose and recommend intervention. And for me personally, that is something that I feel I can do naturally based on the situations that I’ve experienced as a child. The one unique approach that I really love about this process is that Dougherty states to use...
