Should college football players get paid? They put their bodies on the line every game. They can't get a full time job. Also, they can get ready for financial issues later in life. I think College athletes should be paid because they work their butt off while in football and don't get any money. Horace Mitchell says “It is clear that, in addition to their academic course loads, student-athletes' physical conditioning, practice and competition schedules make it difficult for many of them to take on part-time employment to supplement their institutional aid.” They should get paid because they do not have time for a full time job. During the off-season the players have to do an off season workout. They have to practice during the regular season.

Summary: Should College Football Players Be Paid

...from 2011 to 2013, college football players should be paid because “In some way they’re (The NCAA) taking advantage of college athletes that sign their name to a certain school.” A few other reasons college football players should be paid is that they could get hurt and might not have enough money to get a good start on life after college, colleges have extra money for equipment, coaches, and fields, and college football players spend a lot of time playing their sport and don’t have time to get a full-time job. One reason that college football players should be paid is that they could get hurt and might not have enough money to get a good start on life after college. Health. US News says Former college football players were more than twice as likely to have physical problems that limited their daily activities and exercise. Sixty-seven percent of these former athletes said they had suffered a major injury. (“For Many College Athletes, the Payoff Is Lifelong Disabilities: Study”). These players focus all of their time on football, sometimes forty hours a week, and they blow out a knee, or roll an ankle, ruining their chance in the NFL. Shouldn’t they at least have a little money to cushion them out of college and get them on their feet? That’s the first reason college...

Football

...whether or not college football players should get paid to play football. I feel like this is a topic that a lot of football players that is transitioning from high school to college discuss frequently. There has been a few controversies on if college football players have been paid under the table. When you hear that they have been paid under the table, it means that either the college they have chosen has given them money secretively, the head football coach paid them out of their own pockets, or even someone they know personally has paid them to play for that school. College football players should not be paid to play football. There are many reasons on why they should not get paid. When you hear a certain college name, the first thing you hear come out of someone’s mouth is something about how good or bad their football team is. Football players are shown a lot of attention. On their campuses they are very well known, whether or not if they play in the games or sit on the sidelines. Most college football players end up getting a full ride to school because they play football. If they are not paying for school out of pocket, they shouldn’t get paid to do something they are supposed to do. Another reason why they shouldn’t get paid to play football is the fact that other teams that play sports on the campus don’t get paid. Why out of all teams, football should be the one to get paid. For example, a baseball team on the campus might be better than the football team but they...

We all thinks every athlete is getting free tuition, That's the thing though, most college football athletes are still paying for the tuition out of pocket.Only a select few have full ride scholarships. So if you're not going to provide the athlete with a full ride then at least provide the athlete with a stipend. Stipends! There not much but there better nothing. Argumentative Essay: Should College Players Get Paid

...College players getting paid? The problem started because for many years college football has been viewed as an amateur sport and the players have never gotten paid, even though colleges get paid millions from the players. For example in 2011, The University of Texas got $104 million in just revenue which is the first time the $100 million barrier has been passed. Its a problem because college football players put their bodies on the line and get the NCAA millions of dollars but get nothing sides college education in return money wise. The NCAA makes $1 Billion a year at minimum and if your gonna pay each college player, the NCAA will barely have enough money to barely pay for anything. Therefore college football players should get an annual salary. Reasons that support my argument are “The players generate revenue for the colleges and don’t get any money back from it” and “ Paying students would only make the game more...

Should College Athletes Be Paid Essay

...Should College Athletes be Paid? Why should college athletes be paid or not? In this article it says, “Big time college football and basketball programs generate billions a year in TV and marketing contracts, tickets sales, and merchandising.” Why I choose this topic is because If the college players don't bring any money for the TV , tickets, and merchandising then that is wrong. They should, at least, have 10% of what they sell that has the player's last name on it .I am on the pro side why I am is because If a person buys an item that has something to do with them, then they should be paid a little amount of what the regular price is of the item. I am going to tell you a few Pros about college players getting paid. First of all, in the text it says, “ Big time college football and basketball programs generate billions a year.” My question is how does the franchise make billions a year. They make billions a year from the players who, when the games and consistently bowl games and don't even bring a little bit poor because people consider they are amateurs and they will do something poor with the money like use it on things that...

Is it ethical for colleges to not pay their football stars for playing their hearts out on the field, building popular branding images for themselves and their school, and for the collective big-money earnings and prestige that often comes to their schools? Or is indirect payment to these players in the form of a free undergraduate education and college degree through an athletic scholarship sufficient enough? In the 2012 NFL season, 1,947 players played in at least one game. Of those, 62% attended college at one of the five “power conferences” in the U.S., and only one of those players did not attend college at all.[i] Donald Remy, the NCAA chief legal officer has said, “The NCAA’s rules do not force athletes who wish to be professionals to enroll in school,”[ii] yet premier NCAA schools clearly offer the best path to fulfilling these hopeful football players’ dreams. Nevertheless, despite the more opportunistic path of attending a Division...

Why College Athletes Should Be Paid

...College Athletes: Compensation Deserved but not Given Everyone loves to watch their favorite college basketball or football players play in a game, yet college athletes do not get paid for the entertainment they provide. Athletes put in around forty hours of work a week, when including both practices and games. Colleges should pay their athletes so that they can have less stress and focus more on their performance. There are many benefits to paying college athletes, and there are many reasons why they should be paid. College athletes should be paid because they put their lives at risk for entertainment, they need money for personal needs, and they should be able to get some of the spoils of their work, instead of coaches and administrators making all the money. College athletes should be paid because they put their lives at risk for entertainment. In football there are many chances for a player to get a concussion, one...

Why Colleges Should Get Paid

...SPM 210 Why should College Athletes Get Paid? By Calvin Mainor E013280 11/20/2013   Under current NCAA regulations, "all student athletes are prohibited from receiving any payment for their efforts". Exploited athletes generate millions of dollars for their schools, and never see a dime. Is this fair? The universities, coaches, boosters, scouts for recruiting purpose are all getting paid off the players. But the major reasons why the stadiums and arenas are filled up are because of the players but they don’t see a penny of the money. Some universities build academic buildings on campus with the money that the players make for the school. Some coaches even get a percentage of the tickets revenue from the home games the players get nothing. The school pays coaches millions of dollars to coach the player who do the work. The college athletes are slaves to the schools and the coaches. The coaches treat the players as workhorses; the student-athletes can’t even choose their own major sometimes. The student-athletes can’t have a job so where are they supposed to get money from. People say that student-athletes get four-year scholarship, or a free education, but that is not true. Student-athletes only get a year to year scholarship which they can be dropped from the scholarship for a number of reasons. The idea of college athletes being slaves have to get settled for the greater good of athletes and institutions graduation rates. College sports are big business...

Amateurs vs. Athletes

...10 March 2014 Amateurs or Professionals? Big-money college sports takes your breath away. College football and men’s basketball have become such huge commercial enterprises that together they generate more than $6 billion in annual revenue, more than the National Basketball Association. A top college coach can make as much or more than a professional coach. Powerful conferences like the S.E.C. and the Pac 12 have signed lucrative TV deals, while the Big 10 and the University of Texas have created their own sports networks. Last year, Turner Broadcasting and CBS signed a 14-year, $10.8 billion deal for the television rights to the NCAA’s men’s basketball national championship tournament (a.k.a “March Madness”). And what does the labor force that makes it possible for coaches to earn millions, and causes marketers to spend billions, get? Nothing. The workers are supposed to be content with a scholarship that does not even cover the full cost of attending college. Any student athlete who accepts an unapproved, free hamburger from a coach, or even a fan, is in violation of NCAA rules. Nevertheless, the NCAA prohibits any form of payments, beyond scholarships, to any athlete who is responsible for producing the revenue. The NCAA also restricts the ability for any college athlete to earn income from an outside source. In a study sponsored by the NCAA, they discovered that college players have less money than non-athletic students, and almost fifty-eight percent are not even provided...

Should College Athletes Get Paid Essay

...Should College Athletes Get Paid? College athletes should be paid for playing at the college level. This topic is interesting to me because it has been a debatable topic for a long time. College athletes deserve to get a pay check because they are still responsible to keep their grades up while playing and training for football. They work harder than the pros because they have more of a motivation to get to the higher profession than someone who is already there. They can use that money to help support their families. The coaches are getting paid but they don’t play a sport or endure in a sport. The NCAA is making a profit out of them. In all honesty, the college athletes are one of the most hardest working athletes that don’t get paid. College...

Why Do College Athletes Get Paid?

...College athletes have an average of a 50 hour scheduled weekly. Why do they have so many hours every week? It’s because of their sports and then they have to maintain a full college schedule which is 10 hours, plus four hours of studying for every hour of class. Do you think they should be paid now? If college football players were paid it would make the sport more competitive, and more fun to watch. NFL players are paid for their tier and performance per game, also including their yearly salary. So college football players could not just spend their money willingly, they would need to work for the money. So by paying college football athletes the harder they would work would result in the amount of money they make. Also the NCAA is a 11 billion dollar organization and the only reason why the NCAA is worth 11 billion dollars...

College Athletes Should Not Be Paid Essay

...NCAA(National Collegiate Athletic Association) is not paying college athletes, which will become a problem sooner or later if the NCAA does not pay college athletes. Many people think that paying college athletes will bring some problems to universities/colleges, such as offering players more money. However it would be unfair for less appealing and wealthy schools because they do not have as much power or money to recruit the best players. Though people do not understand that college football is for stronger players compared to weaker ones. If the players are dedicated to playing for their future, then paying college athletes would prepare them for the NFL(National Football League) and the players who don’t make it still help their team get better. Although most players in college do not make it to the NFL, every player on their teams help win and helps other players get better so everyone should receive a piece of the action....
