Abstract
Tesla coils are unique in the fact that they create extremely powerful electrical fields. Our objective is to use this field to light up florescent light placed at some distance and because of the fact that it is an electric field that goes directly into the light and doesn't use the electrodes; even burned-out florescent lights will glow. The significant part of our proposed plan is that power is transferred wirelessly. The field produced is without any radiations and hence is harmless to human beings.

I. Introduction
Nikola Tesla invented the Tesla Coil, a type of air-cored resonant transformer, which is used to generate high voltage and high frequency electrical currents. Tesla coils are used to produce high-voltage, low-current, and high-frequency alternating-current. It can produce higher voltages than other artificial sources of high-voltage discharges and electrostatic machines. It takes the output from a 230vAC to several kilovolt transformer & driver circuit and steps it up to an extremely high voltage. II. Basic Scheme of Tesla Coil
A Tesla coil is a resonant transformer containing a primary and a secondary LC circuit. The two LC circuits are loosely coupled together. Power is supplied to the primary circuit through a transformer, which charges a capacitor. If the voltage in the capacitor is extremely high, the air resistance between the spark gap drops quickly and now the spark gap becomes a good conductor. The capacitor will discharge through the spark gap and into the primary coil. The energy will oscillate back and forth between primary capacitor and primary inductor at high frequency (typically 100-300 kHz). III. Hardware Used with Details

1) Primary Coil: a. Usually constructed from copper tubing or heavy gauge wire. It is easier to vary inductance than primary capacitance. b. Inductive part of the primary circuit and forms a resonant circuit. 2) Secondary Coil: c. It is a single air cored inductor wound with thousands of turns of insulated wire. d. The secondary is wound onto an insulating former, usually PVC, but many other formers are used including cardboard, glass & polypropylene. e. Voltage multiplication is achieved here. 3) Capacitor: f. Capacitance value of tesla coil is difficult to estimate. g. Capacitance value is used to determine resonant frequency. 4) Spark Gap: h. High power switch and it is a brain to Tesla Coil. i. It turns-on when sufficient voltage exists across the spark gap. The air in the gap ionizes and begins to conduct electricity like a closed switch.

5) Toroid: j. Forms the capacitor for the secondary circuit. k. It forms a resonant circuit at the same frequency as the primary circuit. 6) Transformer: The transformer will be of rating 230/12kv with secondary current of 6mA. Usually NST transformers are used for this purpose.

IV. Work Done 1. Replacing the neon sign transformer with an alternative transformer: Usually, for construction of Tesla coil neon sign transformers (NST) are used which do not have ground trip circuit. In order to minimize the budget of our project we are using the high voltage transformer circuit from CRT of a damaged television set. This transformer is generally of 12kv and its costs very less as compared to NST. 2. After researching on the safety precautions we have planned to use resistors to short circuit each capacitor. This will ensure that after the supply is turned OFF the charge stored in capacitors will discharge through the resistor. Hence the risk of getting shock will be eliminated.

V. Work Planned
We have contacted respective dealers of transformer, capacitors, winding wire, etc. All the components will be available to us till November end. We will start the process of assembling the parts in the month of December.

VI. Expected Result
Whenever the secondary and primary coils are in resonance frequency a large voltage in produce at the top load. As the current flows through the secondary coil by right hand thumb rule magnetic field is produced around the secondary coil. Hence by using the concept of resonant frequency of inductive coupling any device placed at some distance will start working wirelessly. Even a battery connected across receiving coil will start changing.
