...Should Abortion Be Illegal? The legalization of abortion has been an issue that has been argued both publically and privately for several decades. In all social circles this subject is very sensitive because of the moral and emotional factors involved. For the religious community, it’s a matter of morality and biblical law. For the lay person or non-religious community it’s a matter of choice. In the political arena it’s a matter of economics. The one factor that stands out the most about this issue is that it is of a personal nature. The question at hand is should we legalize abortion, and should women on government assistance be able to receive an abortion as the expense of tax payers? In order to respond to this question responsibly let’s take a look back history to get a better understanding of abortion. Abortion actually dates back to Biblical times when women consumed an herbal concoction that would induce a spontaneous expulsion of a fetus. Though this practice often resulted in not ending the pregnancy or in the death of the mother and the fetus it was documented (Fox, 2012). Throughout history there have been documented incidents of abortion. In fact, in early American history, abortion was illegal and the death of the fetus was considered to be murder. Since the great legal battle of Roe verses Wade (Profile, 1973), advocates of women’s rights have continued to fight for a woman’s right to choose. This brings Fox, P. (2012). ...Maxwell Husband St. Joseph’s University Moral Foundations T/TR 8:30-9:45 “Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice” Abortion is and forever will be a very controversial topic of discussion. It has been debated for years whether it is morally right or wrong. Abortion is a unique subject in that it involves not only morality but also a large amount of theology, emotion, and law. It is also unique because it forces people to choose one side or the other, there is a very small gray area when it comes to this debate, and the side that I will fall on in this essay is the pro-choice side. In this essay I will attempt prove that abortion is not murdering an innocent fetus and that the arguments for pro-choice are stronger than the ones for pro-life. The main point of disagreement between the two sides is what constitutes life, when does human life actually begin? I believe to construct a sound argument this issue must be examined first. I will then go on to cover other various pro-choice points such as a women’s right to choose, the quality of life for the potential child, and the extreme circumstances that will disprove the notion that abortion is morally wrong. As stated in my opening paragraph, the key issue in the case of abortion is determining the status of the fetus in the sense of its humanity. It is my belief that a fetus does not qualify as a human. I agree with Warren when she states that “human being” is a term that is not often distinguished, she suggests that there are two...

...Abortion Introduction The abortion debate deals with the rights and wrongs of deliberately ending a pregnancy before normal childbirth, killing the foetus in the process. Abortion is a very painful topic for women and men who find themselves facing the moral dilemma of whether or not to terminate a pregnancy. It's one of the most polarising moral issues - most people are on one side or the other, very few are undecided. The primary questions The moral debate about abortion deals with two separate questions: 1. Is abortion morally wrong? 2. Should abortion be legal or illegal? Women's rights arguments in favour of abortion Here are some of the women's rights arguments in favour of abortion: • women have a moral right to decide what to do with their bodies • the right to abortion is vital for gender equality • the right to abortion is vital for individual women to achieve their full potential • banning abortion puts women at risk by forcing them to use illegal abortionists • the right to abortion should be part of a portfolio ofpregnancy rights that enables women to make a truly free choice whether to end a pregnancy This argument reminds us that even in the abortion debate, we should regard the woman as a person and not just as a container for the foetus. We should therefore give great consideration to her rights and needs as well as those of the unborn. Women's rights arguments against abortion Not all who support women's...

...life of a child should not be terminated solely based on a mother experiencing an unwanted pregnancy. The second pro-choice argument is the idea that personhood is different from human life. Many pro-choice advocates distinguish between human life and personhood, and they believe that this distinction is important in the context of reproductive rights. Pro-choice advocates agree that a fetus is biologically human, as it has human DNA and is the offspring of a human parent. However, many pro-choice advocates argue that being biologically human is not the same as being a person, according to Planned Parenthood.org. I believe that since a fetus possesses human DNA, it should be classified as a human being. As we recognize individuals outside the room of human beings based on their DNA, we should give the same recognition to a fetus inside the womb. The third pro-choice...

...philosopher makes a non-theistic argument for the immorality of abortion. What primarily makes killing wrong is neither its effect on the murderer nor its effect on the victim’s friends and relatives, but its effect on the victim. The loss of one’s life is one of the greatest losses one can suffer. The loss of one’s life deprives one of all the experiences, activities, projects, and enjoyments which would otherwise have constituted one’s future. Therefore, killing someone is wrong, primarily because the killing inflicts (one of) the greatest possible losses on the victim. This is one of the most hotly contested topics in today’s society. People adopt different viewpoints on this which include: • Abortion is wrong whatever the reasons • Abortion is permissible if the woman’s life is at risk • Abortion is acceptable for a variety of reasons Your opinion on whether abortion is acceptable or not very much depends upon your set of values. If you feel that it is a woman’s right to choose then you are likely to favor the ‘pro-choice’ stance. But if you argue that the fetus has rights and should be treated the same as any other human being then you will adopt the ‘pro-life’ stance. Opponents of abortion cite several reasons for their opposition which include the killing of an innocent human being, the fetus’s right to life, the responsibility of the woman towards the fetus and respect for all forms of life. There are people who are against abortion on principle but do recognize...

...people brought informative material to the argument against and in support of the organization. This was an excellent opportunity for me and other people to see both sides of the argument so that we can become more open minded and educated on the matter of defending our own beliefs with facts and tested theories while understanding other viewpoints. This reminds me of the quote by a Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher, Sun Tzu which states: “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. For myself, I stand very passionately on the cornerstone that human lives, no matter how small or in whose womb they take form in, should be treated with humanity. So in the next four pages I am excited to bring forth the evidence I have found to petition the world to defund Planned Parenthood in support of my strong belief against the establishment. I am equally excited to give supportive information from the opposing side’s perspective. I understand that I do not understand everything. I have not experienced Planned Parenthood personally. I never had a reason to want an abortion neither was I an unplanned fetus that my parents wanted to eradicate. Therefore I cannot pull evidence from personal experience, but I can learn from and examine other people’s testimonies and gather information from many different sources. Those who supports Planned Parenthood believe that they are supporting women’s rights and they believe that their adversaries...

...Name Tutor Course 19 March 2015 ‘Abortion Distortion’ by Rebecca Ayrey Rebecca Ayrey’s article ‘Abortion Distortion’ was published on the Nation’s website in December of 2003. Ayrey asserts that the lawmakers who passed the so-called partial birth abortion ban are far removed from women's lives. During Ayrey’s late-term abortion, she realized that thousands of American women are forced to deliver a fetus with severe defects. The law restricts them from having an abortion on requirement that it was necessary to preserve the woman’s life. Only in the event that the physician declares the woman’s physical and mental health in danger is abortion permitted by law. As with the case of Ayrey, there is a probability of late diagnosis of severe type of fetal defects. Such diagnoses exact a painful toll on the woman and the legislations against late term abortion rob them of their right to choice and limit their alternative to risky abortion procedures. The late term abortion has become a very intriguing argument. What people must understand is that opposing abortion to an unwanted severely defective fetus subordinates the rights and body of the woman to that of the fetus. There are no positive benefits to this. The decision to have a late term abortion does not rely on the decision of the woman alone, but it is backed by a thorough independent diagnosis of a physician. Reversing the ban on late term abortion should be the focus of American legislators to empower women in their choice...

...10/21/2012 Abortion: Is it her choice or theirs While a woman should have the right to choose abortion without being criticized, the issue of abortion is very disputable. Everyone has their own individual opinion. Many people believe abortion is a moral issue, but it is also a constitutional issue. It is a woman's right to choose what she does with her body, and it should not be altered or influenced by anyone else Abortion represents a woman's right to choose whether or not to continue a pregnancy, and this is a fundamental human right and reproductive freedom that is protected by the United States Constitution. This basic and important reproductive choice should not be made by the government or any other outside force against the woman's wishes but solely by the individual woman herself. Abortion is quite the controversial matter in society today; however, it is not widely discussed, and therefore it is hard for one to express their opinions on the matter. Regardless, many people have their views on the subject, whether these views be educated and well thought up, or simply a general view as to why abortion should or should not be practiced. However, for the most part, it seems that certain social groups of society tend to think the same way on abortion. Many forms of religion are opposed to abortion. In their eyes, abortion is a form of murder in that it involves the taking of an innocent life. Issues of life and death are closely linked to spiritual issues and should...

...Abortion is a huge topic of debate in the United States and in the world. In the United States, the majority of the members of the Democratic Party are pro choice, meaning they are for abortion, while the majority of the members of the Republican Party are pro life, meaning they are against abortions. In the United States, abortions are legal, but everyday there are people working to stop them. Abortions are still illegal in many developing countries and women die from unsafe abortions every day. There are many valid arguments on both sides of the debate, such as the fetus being a human vs. women-having control over their own bodies. Scientific research has been conducted for both sides of the argument, and both sides will say that the research...

...ABORTION Abortion remains a divisive and contentious issue which conjures visceral emotions within our contemporary political landscape. The dominant political approach to abortion witnesses Queensland Government engaging in the rights-based realm asserting that foetal life is to be afforded liberal rights at the expense of a woman via the formulation of anti-abortion laws . However, the politics of abortion is patent in ways far beyond centralised government with the discursive framing of abortion often being left to non-governmental actors given the sensitivity and unwillingness of politicians to copiously address abortion. This has resulted in the emergence of a rigid debate between foetal rights and women's rights making liberal rights...

...Should abortion be legal? PHI-103 Legalized Abortion Abortion is not an easy decision. In society today abortion has been a very important issue for thousands of years. Everyone has their own opinions and views about abortion. There are two different types of views, the pro-choice activists and there are pro-life activists. Whatever side one decides to take, the argument seems to be pretty equal. For every point supporting abortion there is a counter-point stating just the opposite. The Pro-choice activists believe that it is the woman’s right to choose whether or not to give birth. There are people in our society who believe that abortion should be illegal. For the people who oppose abortion are called the pro-life. A woman should have the right to do as she will with her body and whatever may be inside. Abortion may not be an easy decision but why be against women who make the choice to have one. For thousands of years women have had abortions and many more continue to make the choice of having an abortion for many good reasons. If the government tries to outlaw abortion it will only force women into doing them in a dark and that can be very dangerous to their health, embarrassing, and expensive. Legalized abortions helps protect a women’s health, decreases the world’s population and keeps women from having unwanted pregnancies. Many women had died or have been severely hurt before abortion was legalized. Doctors would perform back alley abortions and at a pricey fee...

Payne Submitted to the Faculty of Brandman University In partial fulfillment of the requirement for HRCU 630 Conflict & Negotiation 03 April 2016 Introduction The Grand Ole Parties’ (GOP) argument to defund Planned Parenthood is not creditable because of one particular reason; Planned Parenthood is not using government funds to conduct abortion. These are the term in which the legislation was written and passed in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Planned Parenthood receives public funds to provide comprehensive reproductive and complementary health care services and ensure access to such services to provide educational programs which enhance understanding of individual and societal implications of human sexuality to promote research and the advancement of technology in reproductive health care and encourage understanding of their inherent bioethical, behavioral, and social implications (Planned Parenthood, 2014). Now the GOP wish to change legislation and deny Planned Parenthood public fund because now the Party wish to argue that no organization should receive public fund that conducts abortions for any program it does. All people have the right to make decisions for them-selves. To be able to make informed choices people need education and resources (Lottes, 2013). ...DEFINITIONS OF TERMS Euthanasia is the act of deliberately ending the life of a patient at the request of the patient or at the request of close relatives. “Euthanatos” is the art and discipline of dying in peace and dignity, practice of painless death. Euthanasia is commonly known as “mercy killing”, comes from the Greek root word that translates as “good death” but more strictly translated as “easy death”. It is the action of hastening death of a person who is seriously or terminally ill or injured to bring relief to the individual. Abortion - it means taking action to bring to a premature ending the process of fetal development, aborting or expelling the unborn from the womb and thus terminating the cycle of nature. To abort something means to stop something that has already begun. In military terms we say to abort a mission that has already begun or started. When we speak of abortion we mean to stop a life that has already begun to develop. Thus it is putting a stop to God’s plan for human life. OTHER TERMS Passive Euthanasia - is a refusal to use life sustaining medical equipment to prolong life where there is no (medically) prospect of recovery. Active Euthanasia - is to take purposeful action to end a person’s life, in a sense it is an aided suicide. Voluntary Euthanasia - Form of suicide where one may make a ‘living will’ which guarantees him a right to “die with dignity”. Involuntary Euthanasia - Socially or politically motivated acts in causing the death of people...

...Wasn’t I wanted? Abortion has always been a controversial topic, infect no matter how many times this topic has been risen, but it has always remain as unsolved. There are many people out in the world who thinks that abortion should be legal and some think it should not be. I asked this question to my self is abortion right should be legal or not? I thought on this for a long time and then I made decision that abortion is not right. We have no right to take some one’s life. Abortion is not morally right. The reasons why abortion should not be legal: it is against in all religion, no moral value, adoption is alternative option for abortion, and it may effect on women’s life and future pregnancy. Every child is a precious and unique gift from god. We have no right to decline that gift. No religion says that we have right to take some one’s life. In every religion birth and death is the choice of god. We have no right to kill even fetus because fetus is also living thing. . Everyowane have right to live. How anyone kills their own baby people who do this have no moral values. There are so many people out in the world who have no babies and they do understand the value of child, and the one is getting opportunity to have baby is not ready to accept them. “A good society is said to be one that makes it easy for its citizens to be good. Western civilization has, until now, based its laws on the principles of Judeo-Christianity. Principles mean moral absolutes”...
