Work-Life Balance Reflection

This essay deals with the Work-life Balance workshop which took place on the EBS Campus Schloss on the 12th and 13th of September there were five different workshops which were held by different presenters and concerned a variety of topics.
Work Life Balance is not just a phrase it is a very important thing. To organize your social- with your business life will help you to get everything done right. And it could prevent you from getting burned out.

At the very beginning we did a spaghetti-challenge to build up some kind of team spirit and to show us that if you do not trial and error you will never succeed and learn how to cope with stress and failure in a playful manner. It was a great idea, but I think the group size was too big to organize it well, it just took too long to get together and this stuff done. Though it showed to me that even such simple things as building up a spaghetti tower with a marshmallow on top could cause a lot of stress and pressure.
In the workshop Manage yourself, held by Ms Petra Weiler, we were told to realize, that we have a certain amount of time per week and have to plan it how we want to pass it and how we could arrange our free time around our duties. This skill is very important to be successful in your professional and students life. You could procrastinate and not organize your time and if it comes to the deadlines you will have a lot of stress to do it on time or you could have planned your time and be done with your stuff on time and without stress.
We also learned that it is very important to keep yourself healthy to be a top performer if you do not keep yourself healthy you will not be able to perform the best way you could if you would be perfectly healthy. We also learned, that it is important to find some compensation for the intense Brainwork you do while your studying for example

Work and Life Balance

...Elusive Balance Between Work and Life “Balance is beautiful.” - Miyoko Ohno, Japanese bridge designer Article by Leo Babauta I have a close friend named Norm who is a great photographer and a great person in general … recently he was telling me that all he does is work. That might sound familiar to some of you — I’ve certainly been there at different points in my life, although these days I have to say that I’ve found a pretty good balance between all the important things in my life, including work, family, and other things I’m interested in. Norm asked me to write a post about work-life balance, because although I think Norm is pretty happy with his life, he’s interested in expanding his life beyond work. I think it’s an interesting question that most of us have to address at some point or other. Work *Is* Life, To Some Extent The first thing to point out is that work isn’t separate from life — it’s a part of it. For some people, it’s not a fun part of life, but for others, it’s a passion. Either way, it’s a part of our lives, good or bad. Of course, when people talk about a work-life balance, they mean that we should find a balance between work and our personal lives, which is definitely true. But it’s important to realize that if work is really something you love, you don’t need to cut it short in order to spend more time at home in front of the television. So the key is to remember that what we’re looking for is a balance between the things we love — not just work and...

...Chemistry Environmental Chemistry 08 December 2012 HOME A film by Yann Arthus-Bertrand Short version: 92’ 2009, France, digital Film company: Elzevir Films – EuropaCorp Distributor in France: EuropaCorp Distribution SYNOPSIS The appearance of life on Earth was the result of a balance between elements that took billions of years to stabilize. Humans have profited from the lavish resources of the Earth, but have changed the face of the world by the use they have made of it. The harnessing of petroleum and its subsequent overexploitation are having dramatic consequences for our planet. Human beings must change their behaviour and their way of life before it is too late for them, their descendants and life on Earth. REFLECTION HOME was an “extraordinary” story of Earth and Humanity. It traces back to the Earth’s origins: clouds, volcanoes, smoke, rushing water, etc. and how life appears on Earth: bacteria, carbon, plants, oxygen and water; “everything is linked…sharing is everything”. Life hinges on a delicate balance. Earth counts time in billions of years. Trees appear, then soils, micro-organisms then animals, in a logical sequence in which everything has its place. At the beginning of the film, events unfold slowly. The appearance of life and its development also takes place slowly. Man himself is subject to the pace dictated by the natural elements. The human species is the final link in a long evolutionary chain of living beings, going from bacteria to animals. It is a new...

The Employment of Minors in Today’s Economy

...Work and Organization-IR 202 Man has to work in order to survive and realize his goal and purpose in life. Man has to work for a living. The movie Ladder 49 has something to do with the wholistic reflection of man as human being who has the willingness to sacrifice and commit himself for a noble cause. The movie shows that an employee is not only a person, but he is also a father, a husband, a friend, a mentor and a coach. After I finished watching the film it came to my senses that work is really personal to a person. That, whatever conflict and concerns arise in the workplace , your relationship with your family is also affected and you are also bothered and disturbed to some extent. Good for you if you have a wife like Linda who has been very supportive to Mike all along. Jack's son was also affected by being sad when he saw his dad being hurt . It shows that your family is always there when you need them and you don't like seeing them feeling that way. The movie is also a reflection of work versus family and work over family. Jack has to perform his duty as a fireman that when you commit to your creed , there is no second thoughs and reservations. The initiative of Jack to pursue his career in saving one's life is really a means of survival as well as his sympathy and empathy for burned colleagues and rescues, since he is also a family man. A family man who has wife and children that needs his time and attention. Courage is really what Jack has because of the...

Reflection

...Reflection Jamie Shuster XACC 291 July 19, 2015 Carmela Hicks Reflection During the normal operation of a business there will always be cost incurred for running an organization. During the useful life of a plant asset, a company may incur costs for ordinary repairs, additions, or improvements (Stormo, 2009 p 409). Every day we have ordinary repairs and then we have additions and improvements. Costs incurred for ordinary repairs are considered as revenue expenditures. Ordinary repairs are expenditures that are used to maintain the operating efficiency and productive life of the unit costs acquired for additions and improvements are considered capital expenditures. Companies require revenue expenditures to maintain the operating efficiency and productive life of an asset. Usually these small costs occur frequently. Examples of revenue expenditures are, oil changes and tune-ups, maintenance charges, repairs costs, renewal expenses, and repainting costs. Companies record the entry of revenue expenditures as a debit to Repair or Maintenance Expense as they are obtained, and a credit to cash or accounts payable (Stormo, 2009). Personal Reflection

...Personal Reflection Denise Johnson Professor Lana Sampson Philosophy 100-Psychology of Adjustment 3 November 2014 The majority of people that I come in contact with over time has been able to balance home, work and school. I chose these three areas due to my personal reflection on where I started in life and will end up in the future. I believe that my beginning was very hard especially losing my father at age 4, then having to live with different people so that I would not be put in a foster home. I will say that I have been blessed knowing that even though things were not always good, I realize my life was not in my control though a part of something bigger than myself. Psychology is defined as an academic and applied discipline that involves the scientific study of mental functions and behaviors. Psychology adjustment is the concept of positive mental health which refers to an individual's state of mind and overall well-being. After I went from place to place, I started to really be more independent in taking care of myself. I did not want anyone’s help, just allow me to do everything on my own. I really looked at life as you have a long time to live on this earth so take your time. I believe that when really go through situations, it just makes you stronger for worse issues in life. Now, I have learned a lot about myself and how I can handle circumstances as they happen. I have also learned how to prioritize home, work, school, and recreation. One of the things that...

...A reflection on the Leadership learning process Yashas Alur U4556991 VCUG 2002: Leadership and Influence in a Complex World Leadership and Influence in a Complex World VCUG 2002 Yashas Alur U4556991 The Leadership and Influence course addressed numerous questions thus far. One question that was asked of me repeatedly was, “Why did you choose to do this course?” Personally, I found this question quite difficult to answer. I remember walking into the first lecture 20 minutes late, introducing myself and answering this question by saying, “I chose this course to learn about leadership skills.” It was not until the end of that first lecture that I realised how this course was unique and how it was much more than building leadership skills. The course was about cross disciplinary learning, influences of culture on leadership, developing a personal view on leadership and topics that would have never crossed my mind otherwise. I walked out of that lecture telling my friend that this is one course that utilizes a unique teaching style and one that I would get up at 9 AM on a Friday morning to attend. Prior to this course the only theoretical knowledge of leadership that I had was through a Business and Management course where I learnt about leadership styles. Geoff Mortimore pointed out the different leadership styles in the first panel. I was always under the impression that a leader chooses one leadership style in his position. Geoff that day made a strong point in that...

...Learning Team Reflection Week 2 My concerns are for the equations for the three different methods of depreciation and the accumulated depletion method. I want to understand the math of how all are calculated and how they are presented on the balance sheet statement, income statement, and understand the journaling of the different accounts. The different methods that I am referring to are: straight-line, units-of-activity, and the declining-balance. In the practice of answering the questions I feel rather good with most of the terminology, definitions, and how they are applied. I would feel better going through an example of each type. With continued practice problems things will turnout better as we progress in class. Homework was not a joy this week; the examples were not clear and very confusing. After reading the chapters things were still unclear. Home work will be and attempt at best. But I look forward to week three with open curiosity. The concerns that I have are the same. I’m having a difficult time understanding the percentage of depreciation as well as the knowledge of understanding the formula. While attempting to give the correct answer to this week exercise, I’m having trouble. Please review this exercise with much clarity. I really enjoy learning the concepts of plant assets. The problem solving for calculating the land, including sales tax, attorney fees, broker fees, and insurance was very helpful. This really helps with knowing the basis of accounting...
