TITLE
Working functions of 360 degree air cooler

1.1 DESCRIPTION An evaporative air cooler is a device that cools air through the evaporation of water. The problem encountered in the conventional air cooler is that it fails to maintain the optimum relative humidity (RH) level of 40-60%. This makes the users feel uncomfortable. Also conventional air coolers use axial type blower which blows air only in one direction which makes the cooling rate slower. The purpose of the present project is to overcome this difficulties of the conventional method of cooling air. This is done by using humidity sensor to control the switching on and off of pump which helps in maintaining the relative humidity level of the atmosphere in the range of 40-60% which is optimum for users. Also faster cooling rate is achieved by using centrifugal blower of forward curved type as shown in fig 1.2 so that air can be blown in all the direction.

1.2 EVAPORATIVE AIR COOLER
Evaporative cooling differs from typical air conditioning systems which use vapour-compression or absorption refrigeration cycles. Evaporative cooling works by employing water's large enthalpy of vaporization. The temperature of dry air can be dropped significantly through the phase transition of liquid water to water vapour, which requires much less energy than refrigeration. In extremely dry climates, it also has the added benefit of conditioning the air with more moisture for the comfort of occupants. Unlike refrigeration, it requires a water source, and must continually consume water to operate. It is essentially a large box-like frame containing a big blower and walled in by water-wetted pads, usually made of cedar shavings or cellulose. The blower whooshes the hot outside air through the dripping pads (which are continually soaked by a water pump), cooling the air as the air evaporates water molecules from the

...that the LED junction temperature is maintained low. The LED chosen for this project is 7.5 Watt, which has a maximum operating temperature of around 80°C, exceeding which the LED will fail. The LED is best operated at room temperature conditions and may be just above. The project implements a specific method of cooling or rather maintaining the LED junction temperature as low as possible by using a Thermo Electric Cooling device, more specifically known as the Peltier device. The project looks into the various methods by which a Peltier cooler can be implemented such as, with or without a fan or simply a fan would provide sufficient cooling for the LED module. A Heat sink is a necessary component which is always associated with cooling electronic components. Before getting into the depth of the project detailing we will look into the basic components that have been used in the project setup which include: a. LED Module b. Peltier Cooler c. Heat Sink d. Cooling Fan 1.1 Light Emitting Diode: Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are small but powerful devices in terms of their diverse applications. LED lights assume greater significance in the context of need for electrical energy conservation and pollution control world over. LED is basically a semi-conductor. When energy passes through two electron-charged materials, electrons jump from one material to the other. As an electron jumps, it emits energy in the form of a photon. The colour of light created by a given LED...

...Question 1 (a) The House of Quality functions as a living document and a source of ready reference for related products and future upgrades. While it is a great communication tool at each step in the process, the matrices are the means and not the end. Its purpose is to serve as a vehicle for dialogue to strengthen vertical and horizontal communications. Through customer needs and competitive analysis, the House of Quality helps to identify the critical technical components that require change. Issues are addressed that may never have surfaced before. These critical issues are then driven through the other matrices to identify the critical parts, manufacturing operations, and quality control measures needed to produce a product that fulfils both customer needs and producer needs within a shorter period of development cycle time. The net effect of all of this is that the items that drive the company’s action are driven by the customer’s requirements. There is an increase in focus on the customer and an increased awareness of their wants. Because of this focus, the process leads to improved customer understanding and the ultimate outcome- a satisfied customer. The general format of the House of Quality consists of six components: - Customer requirements (HOWs) listing the requirements derived from customer statements. - Technical requirements (WHATs) comprising relevant and measurable product characteristics. - Planning matrix illustrating customer perceptions...

...John Maxwell The 360-Degree Leader: Developing Your Influence from Anywhere in the Organization (Thomas Nelson, 2005) Summarised by George Wells This summary was written as a weekly email to the staff in George’s Department. The “Some things to think about” sections are by George and were geared for the staff in their context. In this book, Maxwell deals with an important topic: not everyone is called to be the top leader in an organisation, and so we need to learn to lead from "the middle". The idea of 360-Degree Leadership is that we should be able to "lead up", influencing our leaders, "lead across", influencing our peers, and "lead down", influencing those lower down the organisational hierarchy. As usual, Maxwell gets his points across with a series of fairly brief, pithy chapters dealing with various practical issues. He introduces the first section, which deals with myths about leadership, by reflecting on the sorts of people we instinctively think of when we think of "a leader": William Wallace, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi, etc. He points out that this is misleading as "99% of all leadership occurs not from the top but from the middle of an organization". Taking this further, all of us can lead effectively, even if we're not the Vice Chancellor or the CEO. He notes that many people are good in one direction (e.g. they have influence with their boss, but alienate the people who report to them, or are great with their team, but do no get along...

...Chapter 2 ENERGY CONVERSION AND GENERAL ENERGY ANALYSIS W hether we realize it or not, energy is an important part of most aspects of daily life. The quality of life, and even its sustenance, depends on the availability of energy. Therefore, it is important to have a good understanding of the sources of energy, the conversion of energy from one form to another, and the ramifications of these conversions. Energy exists in numerous forms such as thermal, mechanical, electric, chemical, and nuclear. Even mass can be considered a form of energy. Energy can be transferred to or from a closed system (a fixed mass) in two distinct forms: heat and work. For control volumes, energy can also be transferred by mass flow. An energy transfer to or from a closed system is heat if it is caused by a temperature difference. Otherwise it is work, and it is caused by a force acting through a distance. We start this chapter with a discussion of various forms of energy and energy transfer by heat. We then introduce various forms of work and discuss energy transfer by work. We continue with developing a general intuitive expression for the first law of thermodynamics, also known as the conservation of energy principle, which is one of the most fundamental principles in nature, and we then demonstrate its use. Finally, we discuss the efficiencies of some familiar energy conversion processes, and examine the impact on energy conversion on the environment. Detailed treatments...
