ªIdeas for IELTS topics Who is this book for? Many students have no ideas or opinions about IETLS writing topics. Even if your grammar is perfect, you will not get a high IELTS score if you do not know what to write. This book is for students who want to go into the writing exam feeling confident that they have excellent ideas, opinions and vocabulary for as many topics as possible How do you get an IELTS score of 7 or higher? The key to a high score is not grammar, it is not your use of words like “moreover” or “in addition”, and it is not your use of phrases like “this is controversial issue nowadays”. To get a high score you need to use good “topic language” (words and phrases that are related to the question topic). You need good ideas in order to answer the question well. How should you prepare for IELTS writing task 2? There is an enormous amount of advice on my website ielts-simon.com. Here is a summary of what I suggest: Spend more time preparing than testing

When you test yourself, you find out what your level is, but you do not learn anything new. You will not improve if you only write test essays. Before writing an essay, study the topic and prepare your ideas, opinions and vocabulary. Steal my ideas

If you only use the vocabulary that you already know, you will not learn anything new, and you will not improve. Practise linking my topic ideas together to write “perfect essays”. See the website for examples of how to do this. Use this book together with the website

The website ielts-simon.com contains lessons and videos that show you how to use the ideas from this book. You can speak to me there if you have any questions. Content 24 topics: 1. Advertising Positives of Advertising

...强哥03.17期4月写作预测班第7题 • In some countries around the world, men and women are having children later in life. What do you think cause the situation? What are the effects on society and family life? 。 强哥03.17期4月写作预测班第7题 • The improved education in some countries can partly explain their late childbirth. In the past, many people stepped into the adult world at an early age and started a family soon afterwards; but now most of the twenty-something choose to spend an extra four years in college to receive a higher education, which consequently postpones the birthdays of their babies. Another contributor to the phenomenon is the continuously rising cost of marriage and raising children. Taking China as an example, a big proportion of born in the 1980s and 1990s are still unable to even find partners because they fail to meet the widely accepted basic requirements for marriage, namely a car and a home, as well as a well-paid job, to say nothing of their children. ...Public museums and art galleries are not necessary because people can see the objects stored in those places on the Internet. To what extent do you agree or disagree? With the fast development of science and technology, an increasing number of people are likely to enjoy art stuffs by Internet for its convenience and speedy. In this case, some argued that public museums and art galleries should be abandoned. However, in my view, this argument is not convincing for the following reasons. The infornations online pictures carried are restricted on the perspective of quality and color. The pictures showed online may get revised or lightened, losing its original looking. Also, the computer screen just own two division, which cannot have a wholly perspective when they showed a valuable antique or art masterpiece online. Therefore, people, especially expert in this area, sometimes make a fault judgement because only a part can be seen by computer. In addition, the museums and galleries cannot disappear for they have their own advantage---fully artificial atmosphere. When someone walking in a museum, it is an absolutely different experience from sitting behind a small screen. Not only the items on display can be appreciated closely, but also the atmosphere one will enjoy in the museum. Take art gallery for an example, only when you walk in and stand afront of a painting, indulged in the atmosphere, can you understand what author want audience to see, to feel, and to experience...

...IELTS Writing Test Our latest factsheet gives you examples and ways to prepare and practise for your IELTS exam.  Here is task number two which focuses on writing: The infographic* below, based on a 2009 survey, shows US residents’ opinions on the recovery of the housing market following the decline of prices in 2006-7 and the international financial crisis of 2008-9. Summarise the information and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words. You should spend around 20 minutes on this task. *Infographic by Truliavisuals, courtesy of Creative Common Answer one: The United States experienced a housing bubble, prior to the international financial crisis of 2008. Prices peaked in 2006 and started to decline in 2006-2007. US economic experts believe it was one of the main causes of the 2008-2009 recession, when several major financial institutions collapsed. This infographic, based on a survey carried out in 2009, shows US residents’ views on the recovery of the housing market. At the time of the survey, 4% of respondents believed the housing market had already recovered. Only 1% of respondents indicated that the property market would recover in 2010. While 10% of US citizens believed that the market would pick up in 2011, there was more optimism for 2012 and 2013, with 27% and 23% respectively. Surprisingly, only 12% of respondents expressed optimism in 2014, while 25% estimated recovery in 2015 or later. Opinions appear very much divided, as shown by the low...

...Using a computer every day can have more negative than positive effects on children. Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Essay 1 – High Score – Band 8-9 In today's modern world, computers are an essential part of everyday life. Around the globe, children often use computers from a very young age. Although it is important for children to participate in various well-balanced activities, in my opinion, children who use the computer daily are actually developing a critical skill for future success. The bases for my views are personal, academic, and professional. From a personal point of view, computers are an invaluable resource to help young people explore the world around them. For example, children who use Internet to satisfy their curiosity about diverse topics are already becoming independent learners. No child with a computer is ever bored! By starting early in their lives, children feel totally at ease around computers; they are also able to take advantage of the wide range of services computers provide. From an academic viewpoint, children have no choice but to master this technological invention. For instance, when I was in university, students brought their laptops to class to take notes, do research and exchange information. They wrote assignments, created presentations and developed databases. Children who build early confidence and experience in these abilities are at a distinct...

结果: Acceptances: Chicago($$), UCLA($$), UCSD($$), Wisconsin($), PSU($$), UBC($$), USC($$) Rejections: Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Berkeley, Yale, Northwestern, Columbia...

Ielts Writing Task 1

...IELTS Writing Task 1 #1 You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. The graph below shows the changes in maximum number of Asian elephants between 1994 and 2007. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.   [pic] The bar chart illustrates how the maximum amount of Asian elephants changed over the 7-year period from 1997 to 2004. It can be easily seen from the graph that the general trend was downwards. 7 out of 9 countries had less elephants in 2004 than in 1997. By contrast, Cambodia’s number of elephants increased slightly from 1200 in 1997 to 1500 in 2004, whereas that of Laos remained unchanged with 1150 elephants. India seems to have the greatest elephants population, accounting for approximately 10000 in 1997; however, this number dropped significantly to only 7500 in 2004. Nevertheless, 7500 elephants still made India the most elephants country in 2004, as the second one, Myanmar, only had 4800. China was the country that had least elephants in 9 considered countries with only 1000 in 1997, which even declined to only 500 in 2004. (141 words) model answer: The graph shows the estimated maximum population of elephants in a range of Asian countries in both 1997 and 2004. In most of the countries included in the graph, the population fell. This was most noticeable in Malaysia and Thailand, where the number of elephants was thought to...
