Xbox One review – The right choice?
New, Powerful, Controversial. All you need is in one box, Xbox One.
Introduction
When Microsoft first announced their next-gen console at E3 2013 current console hardware was becoming obsolete, which was made clear as newer games were pushing performance to the limit. Rumors were high that the next generation of consoles were going to be something completely different, and the Xbox One in its grand announcement at E3 met that criteria, different - not in a good way.
Microsoft presented an Xbox not designed for gaming alone but for entertainment as a whole, this meant a complete reorder of priorities of the console. Gaming had to give way to TV, apps, internet, films, streaming and overall entertainment connectivity, your all in one multimedia box. Certainly innovative but with a slight problem of under-looking the core feature, gaming. Of course the onslaught that Microsoft faced after this announcement quickly made them change their ways, but the damage had been done and can still be seen with the disproportionate sales of the PS4 to Xbox One.
The Xbox One out now however is a completely different case. With the realization that the Xbox user base is in the majority gamers, Microsoft quickly restructured their vision of the Xbox One. Always online requirement was scrapped, as was idea of disc-less gaming and a constantly working and watchful Kinect complied with its own system checks. In many ways the original concept was a huge leap into the future, which many were just not ready for. The concept of a multimedia entertainment hub however was kept and for a good reason.
Design
With its powerful internal components it was expected to be big, but not so big and bulky. It follows the same design philosophy as other Microsoft products: modern, simple and accessible. Right from its packaging it looks intimidating, a giant black

Ps4 vs Xbox One

...Introduction A new generation of video game consoles will be premiering shortly. The video gaming world is calling it “The Console Wars”. Although the battle of video game system superiority has been going on for a while now, this year promises to be on a larger scale than the previous wars. Sony, the maker of PlayStation, and Microsoft, the maker of Xbox, are expected to release their next-generation systems in November. This report will be a comparative analysis of the soon-to-be-released Xbox One and PS4. The purpose of this report is to compare both systems on their specific features. The goal is to find out which system is the best when comparing both capabilities and value. This comparative analysis is intended to help customers decide which system is better suited for their needs. This report covers: * The general description of each product * Accessories * Specifications * Exclusive games for each individual system After extensive research, I found that both systems are fairly comparable from a technical standpoint. However, I recommend the PS4 over the Xbox One based on value and services. General Description of Products PS4 Mark Cerny, lead architect of the PS4, said the development of the eighth-generation console began in 2008 (“PlayStation 4”). The PS4 is developed and created by Sony Computer Entertainment (“PlayStation 4”). On February 20, 2013, Sony announced that the PS4 would be the successor of the PlayStation 3 during a press...

...PS3 VS. Xbox Comparison report Millions of people worldwide own game systems whether its PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 there’s always going to be some kind of conflict between the two, because they both want to be the most popular one. There are many different aspects in which people choose one or the other depending on what they are more interested in because they both have many different features. The PS3 has a built in blue-ray player which comes with free wife since day one PS3, because of its build in blue-ray player which comes with free Wi-Fi since day one. At the time when Xbox 360 were first release the company was charging $99 to its customers who wanted wireless on their Xbox 360 and $199 if customers wanted to play HD DVD which by the way are now obsolete thanks to Blue-Ray and also add the yearly fee of $50 for Xbox live it brought the total for an Xbox 360 to $647. At the time Ps3 were just $399.That was a $248 difference between the two that you would save by choosing the PS3. The quality between the two also had its ins and outs for example not only was the Xbox overpriced but it also had issues with overheating. In 2010 a survey of over 500,000 people show us that the Xbox 360 had a very high failure rate compared to the PS3. The Xbox has more number in sales, but also has many bad reviews due to the game systems console breaking down, or overheating. The PS3 beats the Xbox 360 games. Promotion for Xbox One

...Promotion for the Microsoft Xbox One The target customers for Microsoft’s Xbox One were chosen carefully following a major loss in the market share among hard core gamers to the Sony PlayStation 4. This segment of gamers are essential in establishing the success of the previous generation consoles from Microsoft, so it is imperative that Microsoft re-capture these customers with the Xbox One. Because of this Microsoft has put billions on the line to promote the Xbox One. The message Microsoft is pushing out is one that focuses on the system’s performance as a gaming system in terms of graphics output and real time data processing rather than an all-encompassing multimedia system. This message is guided by the idea that the Xbox One is the primary tool for traditional and hard core gamers to connect with the gaming community. It is important that Microsoft did this because of the focus Sony had put on marketing the hardware of the PlayStation 4. While some believe hardware is key, performance is what the gamers demand in the end. Because the Xbox One is branded as a multimedia device as well as a gaming console there has been many different types of media used in positioning successful advertising. These advertising messages were channeled through video game conferences such as E3 as well as 30-45 second television ads. Social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook have been heavily used and still relying primarily on video formats and bundle ads. Feature stories concerning...

...Challenges with Original Xbox Microsoft encountered many challenges when launching the original Xbox in 2001. To better understand these challenges, we adopt the SOSTACTM (Situation analysis, Objective Setting, Strategy, Tactics, Actions and Control) framework developed by Paul Smith to summarize the Supply Chain Management (SCM) strategy. Situation Analysis Microsoft did not have a presence in the gaming console market and was up against strong competitors which already had established markets such as Sony (Playstation) and Nintendo (GameCube). This competitive landscape put them in a position wherein the company needed to develop a product which offered features that were comparable to existing products in the market place and priced perfectly so that they can establish the Xbox in the market. Moreover, it was critical to launch in time for the 2001 holiday season to allow Xbox to have a presence in the marketplace before it became up against the “next-generation product”. Thus, Microsoft’s early challenges came at a price of high production ramp up costs because it needed to produce 100,000 consoles in a week in order to launch the new Xbox in time for Christmas. Objective For Microsoft, the original Xbox was primarily aimed at entering the gaming console market, learning from the experience and paving the way for the next generation of products. Strategy Microsoft adopted a push supply chain strategy using an extended supply chain. It developed its products...

Sony Playstation 3

...PlayStation 3, I believe that we are going to be able to quickly take the leadership position once again and maintain that position for a very long time. — Kaz Hirai, President and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment of America, November 17 20061 It was a picture that was reminiscent of the launch of the original PlayStation nearly a dozen years before. Some eager customers had arrived as early as 6am and from as far as New Jersey to a video game store in Manhattan with the hope of purchasing one of the newest and most sought after video game consoles. By 9am, the number of customers waiting for entrance to the store exceeded 100 and the line extended down the block. One customer in line had been searching stores across the region for two weeks in order to find a console for her brother’s twenty-fifth birthday. A twelve-year-old and his grandmother were visiting their third store in search of the new console. “I just hate what you have to do just to get one,” the boy said.2 In one sense, long lines and sold-out stores were typical at the beginning of each new generation of video game consoles. What made the scene outside of the video game store in Manhattan quite surprising, though, was that the hopeful customers were not waiting in order to purchase a new PlayStation 3 (PS3) game console from Sony, the undisputed market leader from the previous two generations of video game...

Brand

...Scott Love, Nikole Phillips, Jason Wilcox Predict 450 Game Console Brand Equity An analysis of forces involved in Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo brand equity Game Console Brand Equity An analysis of forces involved in Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo brand equity Introduction The successful marketing and revenue generation of products is governed by a host of tangible and intangible factors. As marketing analytics research continues to develop theories and models for uncovering these important components of the product sales cycle, certain components differentiate themselves through importance and impact. Brand equity is one such component and can be described as “the added value endowed on products and services…reflected in the way consumers think, feel and act with respect to the brand” (Kotler & Keller, 2012, p. 243). In an effort to better understand brand equity, this paper analyzes the brand equity properties of the three primary gaming consoles in the United States. The analysis of the gaming console platforms from Microsoft (Xbox), Sony (PlayStation) and Nintendo (Wii) is specifically important and revealing because of several factors. First, the initiation of this paper coincides with the unveiling and soon to be released newest additions to the Microsoft and Sony fleet of gaming consoles, specifically the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In addition, the three platforms are widely used devices with significant brand loyalty, salience, feelings and resonance...

Windows Phone Ad Analysis

...dash of smoke. The phone itself features App blocks or windows to match the background color to imply that the phone might be customizable (which is a common feature on any competitor’s phone.) Maybe the implication they are trying to convey is that the device would “smoke the competition in the sky”? I’m personally not too fond of the message. This Window’s phone ad has a very direct message but does not show the reader any feature of the device where it has “smoked the competition”. This message would be used primarily to target gamers, young adults, and cheesy action movie lovers where someone “smokes” the competition. The problem with targeting this audience is that most of them will have internet access and can easily search for reviews about the entire market of mobile phones. In fact, the Windows Phone is probably the least attractive phone in terms of physical specifications and sheer amount of tools that the user can gain access to. The reverse of the implied message is probably the truest, which is that the...

Case Study

...Case Study 3 Xbox One vs. PS4 If you have children, are a gamer or enjoy entertainment at home, there isn’t a conversation taking place that doesn’t include Microsoft Xbox One or Sony Playstation 4. But there is so much more to the story of console gaming that meets the eye. Your job: • Read this case study: http://blogs.hbr.org/2013/11/three-strategy-lessons-from-the-latest-round-of-xbox-vs-playstation/ • Once you review, write and executive memo that neatly answers the questions (and summarizes) the following: 1.) Is the target audience for both consoles the same? Or are they different? Efficiently explain the target audience for each (or arugue if they are the same) 2.) What are possible substitutes for the consoles? Please list three substitutes and offer at least one reason (for each substitute)why consoles should be concerned that a buyer might turn to this alternative product to meet their entertainment needs? 3.) Considering the demographics/psychographics of the buyer of PS4 and Xbox One, what would be two specific marketing disciplines you would recommend using to introduce the brand-new product? How would you know if the marketing of the message worked? (in short, how would you evaluate success?) 4.) Let’s assume a buyer bought a product/game to play on the console. And let’s assume a hacker manipulated the product (such as this example): http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2013/12/04/nba_2...

Video games are no longer a form of entertainment for few, but a world-wide phenomenon for people of all ages joining in on the fun. Consoles have a very long history; from the very start passionate people have been hard at work to make the industry what it is today. There are also guidelines that all video game companies must abide by as well, so it’s not all fun and games. A video game is defined as a game that involves direct input from a user to generate visual feedback on a device. The systems used to play video games are commonly known as platforms. These devices range from home consoles such as the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii to the personal computer, and all the way to the arcade system, where the video game was born. Video games were first made as a form of entertainment but have since evolved into a worldwide cult following. They are now used for entertainment, learning tools, and even training. The video game industry was first introduced as a commercial entertainment medium in 1971. This is where it all started. After the collapse of video games in 1983, there was a rebirth 2 years later which set in motion the events leading to a $10 billion industry, which rivals the motion picture industry as the most profitable form of entertainment in the world (Herman, 2008). Many people credit William Higinbotham for the creation of the very first video...
