Businesses are hopping on board with the new technology. This is helping businesses communicate much easier and get information faster. One big one businesses use is email. Businesses are using the advances in technology to advertise for example; they are using company websites, social networking sites, and even paying for spots on others websites. You can also see those using traditional forms of advertising. There are some businesses that have open internet connections that the employees can have access to and this is causing disruption in the productivity of employees. Employers because of that have started to monitor and block sites; this has been done for multiple reasons. With the advances in technology criminals have also followed. Technology has allowed businesses to store large amounts of data in much smaller spaces allowing them to save money but this data is accessed electronically so safety measures have to be put in place to protect it. Every business is different and has different needs but the need for faster communication has been made possible with the advancements in technology. Xcom285 Week 9 Capstone Checkpoint

...Capstone Checkpoint – Reflection Each week in this course I was taught different techniques in how to communicate in business writing. I learned how to apply these techniques to different scenarios in a business career and for my future courses. Businesses have used technology as a form of communication for some time now. Techniques today have made communication a lot simpler than and just as effective as the original technique type of a face to face meeting. There may now be several technical types to communicate a business transaction or a client proposal, but the important key is to know how to communicate through a writing process. My most important lesson in this course was to understand how to recognize the audience you are to communicate to and to know the process it takes to write, present, or inform the client or a colleague. Planning, brainstorming, gathering information, organizing, and evaluating your writing are the first steps of the process I can use in my business career and in future courses. The next steps are getting feedback and being able to revise, edit, and do a final proof read. Using this process will allow me to create essays or a presentation that will serve as an effective way to communicate my thoughts on a subject. Business writing comes in various formats such as email and Power Point presentations. Understanding the appropriate email etiquette will benefit me in the work place. Writing emails to clients must always be professional...

Privacy Laws and Policies Debate

...XCOM285 December 21, 2012 University of Phoenix Privacy Laws and Policies Debate I have looked at both sides of the argument when it comes to communication privacy laws in the workplace. There are some good points to monitoring employees, that I read about such as “using monitoring as a positive aid for training, improving service, ensuring compliance, protecting employees, customers, and so forth, and to assist in fairly evaluating employee performance.” But If I have to choose a side I would go against monitoring employee’s computers, listening in on calls, and video surveillance. I think my biggest concern is the fact that many employers will go too far. There will be no privacy at all for the employee in the workplace, except in the restrooms. I think this total lack of privacy and lack of trust shows an employer has no respect for the employees. Employers need to consider the effect such monitoring has on their employees since employee and employer attitudes about monitoring often diverge. There should be a pretty good battle over this issue, what with so many people being concerned with their privacy, but on the other hand so many companies making big money on software that is used to spy on a companies’ employees. Software manufacturers in 2004 expected the sale of computer monitoring and surveillance software to businesses to increase from $139 million in 2001 to $622 million in 2006 (Wakefield 2004). There aren’t any constitutional or federal...

Accounting Cycle

...Xcom 285 Final Business Writing Portfolio Business Writing Portfolio Pamela Williams-Rue XCOM/285 Essentials of Managerial Communication Axia College Xcom285 has taught me many valuable assets that I can use in my future, but I believe that the most valuable thing that I have learned is that communications is not just talking. Communications is about listening and writing as well. It is important in business communications to understand that to effectively communicate one need’s to tune into everything that is going on around him or her. This means that he or she needs to understand the audience, the purpose of, and the most effective way to deliver or receive the message. When discussing resources businesses use to effectively communicate, I learned other methods of communications, what role those methods play in our daily activities, and ideas on how to use them. It was great to take those trends and focus on using them effectively to reach a specific audience, and what characteristics of the audience need to be considered when trying to ensure that the audience is being reached effectively. One of the more interesting assignments was the cross culture communications matrix. The reason I found this interesting was because it gave me a better understanding of the diversifications of the world. It was also fun to read about what was considered socially acceptable, un-acceptable, and the norm for different parts of the world. Week eight’s discussion about the laws and policies...
