My Life Changing Experience

The most memorable event I have experienced is moving from Colombia to a country that changes lives and is know as a dreamland called the United States. When I was five years old my parents decided to move to the USA in hope of giving my brother and I a better future. I was given this great opportunity that most people from all over the world yearn for. My family and I have experienced many struggles just as well as accomplishments. Adapting to a whole new environment and way of life was not an easy task. Seeing my parents give up everything we had in Colombia to start a new life in an unfamiliar world. They worked day and night to provide for our family. I remember seeing my mother cry and at some point regret she ever made the decision of moving. At first, I was too small to even understand the reasons why we were moving, all I thought about was going to Disney World and meeting Mickey Mouse. Once I started getting older I also started to understand the actual struggles my family faced. Not being able to communicate with people because you didn’t speak English, feeling alone because all we had was each other, and having to become accustomed to a very distinct culture and traditions. Eventually, everything has facilitated for us. I have integrated to the American culture, I even classify my self partially American. Don’t get me wrong being Colombian to me is such an honor but so is being raised as an American. I love everything about living in the United States. I have had the pleasure of meeting many people that have helped me as if they were family; I’ve experienced life changing moments that have made me a humble person and learned incredible things that will help me grow through out my life.
Now that I am very close to becoming an adult, I thank my parent’s immensely for going through the sacrifices they did just to get me
