You Only Get One

Summer 2014 in Cleveland, Ohio. My considered-second family, The Morrings, had came to get me in the early afternoon to go on a 2-3 hour drive to get my sister Terraé her new puppy to cure the mourning for her recently lost one. I climbed into the third section of the run down 2014 jet black Tahoe, Ms.Morring in the driver seat, family friend Tanisha in the passenger, Tanisha’s daughter and our friend Darius in the second section, and me and Terraé in the third. The car ride was full of laughter and sing-a-longs with plenty of freeway until we finally got off, although we still had plenty of ground to cover. There was farm after farm, cow after cow and so many different roadside stands selling either fruits, vegetables or pies. It was obvious we were in the countryside part of Ohio by now. We even passed by an outside go-kart place that we all started making plans to come back to before the summer was over. It still took about thirty minutes to get to the house where the woman we were getting the puppy from lived, but once pulling up in the driveway and opening the door, we were bumrushed with the tiniest puppies and kittens any of us had laid our eyes on. We were greeted by a short, Caucasian lady named Amber, who told us that Terraé could pick whatever puppy her heart desired. After about five minutes of looking around, she made a connection with Bubbles, the runt of a litter of Yorkie Terriers. After filling out paperwork and buying any other necessities for Bubbles, we were in the truck heading back home. This is where my reason behind this essay begins. “Are y’all hungry!? I’m hungry!” Ms.Morring said. We all laughed and simultaneously said different versions of “Yes.” as she pulled into a gas station and got out the truck. I reached for my wallet and asked everyone what they wanted, and oce getting orders made my way out the truck and into the gas station, where Ms.Morring was buying seven boxes of mini pizzas, plain cheese, pepperoni and sausage. After she bought our pizzas and gas and I bought our extras, we made our way back, where I handed everyone what they wanted while Ms.Morring pumped gas. A door flung open and slammed. Tanisha’s daughter, Darius, Terraé and I looked straight to the door to see that the slamming came from Tanisha’s door. “What she do that for?” was the look written plainly on everyone’s face. Ms.Morring got back into the car and looked around, “Where’s Tanisha!? I’m ready to go!” “She went inside the gas station.” Terraé said. “Why?” “We don’t know, she just got out and slammed the door behind her and went inside the gas station.” “Okay well she better hurry up before she get left.”. We waited outside for almost ten minutes before Tanisha came out, a bag of chips and candy in her hand. “You’re so selfish, I hope you know that Unique.” she said as she got into the car. “What!? What’re you talking about, how am I “selfish””? “You bought everyone something but my daughter! And you were gonna have the nerve to drive off without buying her anything!” We all sat in the truck with puzzled expressions. What was she talking about? Ms.Morring bought seven pizzas, there are seven people in the truck. “..what? I bought her a pizza.” “She’s a vegetarian! She doesn’t eat meat! You bought only pizzas with meat!” “I got a cheese one too! Tanisha what is wrong with you?!” the argument continued, getting hotter and hotter with every word. Ms.Morring had eventually started up the truck and began driving the route back home, with them yelling at each other for almost ten minutes. “Can y’all just stop!? Y’all are scaring this little girl! She is back here crying and y’all continue to argue in her face!?” Terraé and I both shouted at them. It was sad that it took a couple of 14 year olds to get them to stop. We got back onto the freeway, and where we were, there weren’t lights lined up along the freeway, so once it became pitch black with the moonlight not even bright enough to light a quarter of the sky, we were on our own. “Tati can you please use your GPS to tell me where to go?” I pulled out my phone, 23%. “I have 23% so we’re gonna have to get to a place that you know how to get home from fast.” We drove along the dark freeway for thirty minutes until my phone died. “Okay, I think I know where I’m going from here.” “I hope so, because my phone just died.” We approached the part of a freeway where there was construction, with only two ways to go, and one was home. We turned onto the right lane, which was the where the worst part of the construction was. There was raw gravel on the left side of the lane, and cement blocks lining the right, leaving very little room for a Tahoe to fit. “I can’t believe you did that Unique.” Those six words started it up again. Everyone was now yelling, the car was now moving faster as Ms.Morring got louder, and the only people quiet were Tanisha’s daughter and Bubbles. The whole back of the car jerked to the side, to the left, then to the right. Mrs.Morring lost control of the wheel. Her foot still heavy on the gas, we sped up even faster. I grabbed Terraé’s head, sheltering her from hitting it anywhere while I went head first into the seat of me. We crashed straight into the cinder blocks, up and over. So this essay is about solutions right? Well I’m going to make them so that they assist my story. Don’t distract the driver. You ever heard of the silent treatment when someone upsets you? Use it. Also, make sure that you have a driver with all the direction necessities needed for a road trip, whether it being someone’s brain, a map or some form of a GPS. If the driver is not prepared for you, don’t trust them with your life. Also, if you’re riding with someone that you know has a bad temper, avoid making them upset, as that can cause them to become foot-heavy with the gas pedal out of anger. If people are arguing, be the peacemaker, don’t join in thinking yelling will make them listen to you, because if they’re already yelling at and not listening to each other, why would they listen to you? You only get one life, I don’t want to see on the news how you lost yours.

How Academic Experience Prepares You for College and Reaching Career Goals

...How academic experience prepares you for college and reaching career goals The key to a child striving to obtain a degree is for his or her parents to really teach the importance of having one. Getting a degree is probably the only thing that I look at totally different as the years has passed. My parents were real old school and they didn’t come from a family of scholars so I was not really pushed in that direction. They made sure I did well in grade school but all I really was told was to get a job. All children should be explained how better life will be for them and their children if they get that degree. I realize it now but I’m not in the situation I would be in if I started fresh out of high school. More opportunities would’ve been available because I would be more mobile. I have children now but back then I didn’t have any. I could have easily moved to another state if I needed to do that for my career. The long term results and values of completing a degree is a sense of accomplishment. Some people do it to make their family proud. Some may do it so that they can personal see their achievements. Whatever pushes and drives you to reach for the stars is positive motivation. When you get a degree you stand a better chance at getting hired for jobs. Once you get hired it doesn’t stop there. With that degree you will get looked at for promotions versus someone who doesn’t have one. The biggest difference that a degree makes once you start working in your career of choice...

...Dream Small… Hi Friends You would be really surprised to have a look on the heading of this article “Dream Small”, when all the genius people out there are shouting “Dream Big”, I am whispering “Dream Small”, ofcourse that means I am not a genius. Keeping jokes apart, this is for all MBA-Freshers who are expecting big bucks after completing their MBA. “Dreaming Big” is not an issue but achieving that dream always starts with small steps. It is said that “Rome was not built in a day” similarly you can’t demand higher salaries because you are a MBA. What if you are a MBA? Are you having anything else to boast, about which the corporate world would appreciate. If yes, then go out and shout “I am having this X thing which could meet Y Company’s expectations and for the same reason, I should get salary of ` Z”. The point is to think big but build small, something you can be proud of. If you don’t have the things to boast about try for Plan B. Make your career plan in such a way that you start with small company with small salary learn lots many things over there of-course at the Company’s cost, look out for options and in next couple of years take a big leap. Being a Placement Officer with KSMCS, I hear lot many times that students are saying; that I am having 2 years of work-experience and my last salary was ` 20K. So they must get at least that amount during placement process. My question to them is that if they are having experience of selling pharmaceutical products and they...

...Industrial revolution: Socialism and capitalism, which one is better? Which one will provide more for me and my family? If you are a capitalist you are most likely one of the rich people who take from the not as wealthy people who are probably the socialists. The socialists are the ones that will do all the work for the capitalist. Like us factory workers. The ones who aren't afraid to get dirt under their fingernails. We are socialists, we barely get paid, the capitalists will beat us at any chance they get with only one meal to look forward to everyday. Welcome to socialism. Being a factory worker isn’t all rainbows and cupcakes like the factory owners make it seem like. Blood, sweat and tears are put into it but people just don’t want to believe what’s actually happening. When we speak out about the abuse, the long hours day and night plus so much more. But nobody wants to hear it so they just tune it out. It’s hard to do an interview when you know what’s coming your way, about now is the time where you say “why don’t you quit?” If you quit then you don’t get any job,you become homeless and starve. But trust me, there are worse things than death....

Siblings vs Child

... Being an only child vs Siblings In today’s society “being the only child” and “having siblings” has been a question that have been asked from time to time. Some people think it’s better to be the only child, others feel like having siblings is the way to go. In my opinion as an only child I think having siblings is way better. Being an only child has a lot of benefits but having siblings outweighs being an only child If you’re an only child your parents only have you to spend money on without having to worry that they have share amongst you other siblings something. As an only child you grow up more independently and being able to fend for yourself better. You get more attention from your parents you never have to compete with anyone to get all of the attention from your parents but of course if you had other siblings your parents would have to share their attention. Another good thing about being an only child is your maturity level is always higher than people your age, your mentality is always different than people your age.so people will often tell you that your so mature for your age. This also makes you more introverted as a person because you get to spend more time alone. And think about stuff differently. The most important pro to being an only child is you have no sibling rivalry. Having sibling rivalry prevents so much issues in a family. There are some disadvantages to being an only child also some of the disadvantages are they might get a lot of pressure...

An Eye for an Eye Makes the Whole World Blind

...them and they are unwilling to see that the only way out is to forgive. Many people are raised in an environment where they believe the only way to “get even” with people who have done them wrong is to take something (an eye) away from them as the other person has done to them . What most people fail to realize is that when people seek revenge they are left “blinded” by the vision or idea to gain revenge. If someone poked your eye out and in return you poked that person’s eye out, what good could possible come out of it? You both are still left without and eye. Just because you have gained revenge does not mean you get back what you lost in the first place. Revenge is like a never ending cycle because once you “get even” with someone, that person could possibly attempt to get back at you once more and you at them again, which will result in you being completely “blinded” and only seeing that revenge is the only answer. If enough people believe that revenge is a real “solution” to make people pay for the things they have done to one another the amount of destruction done to society would be unmanageable. The world would be so blinded with the idea that vengeance is the only way to solve any problem. This quote was no originally made on the foundation of it simply being for revenge, it was for people who have committed the atrocious crime of murder. It was a way for only the justice system to punish people who have murdered. Why only murder? If someone kills your brother, the...

How to Raise Money Essay

...How to Raise Money Want to start a startup? Get funded by Y Combinator. September 2013 Most startups that raise money do it more than once. A typical trajectory might be (1) to get started with a few tens of thousands from something like Y Combinator or individual angels, then (2) raise a few hundred thousand to a few million to build the company, and then (3) once the company is clearly succeeding, raise one or more later rounds to accelerate growth. Reality can be messier. Some companies raise money twice in phase 2. Others skip phase 1 and go straight to phase 2. And at Y Combinator we get an increasing number of companies that have already raised amounts in the hundreds of thousands. But the three phase path is at least the one about which individual startups' paths oscillate. This essay focuses on phase 2 fundraising. That's the type the startups we fund are doing on Demo Day, and this essay is the advice we give them. Forces Fundraising is hard in both senses: hard like lifting a heavy weight, and hard like solving a puzzle. It's hard like lifting a weight because it's intrinsically hard to convince people to part with large sums of money. That problem is irreducible; it should be hard. But much of the other kind of difficulty can be eliminated. Fundraising only seems a puzzle because it's an alien world to most founders, and I hope to fix that by supplying a map through it. To founders, the behavior of investors is often opaque—partly because...

Blog Paper

...The blog that I choose was one about the cyber defense for the blue team is what it is titled as. I like this blog because that is my ultimate goal and the career that I want to do after I have graduated from NOVA. I also have competed in the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) last year and want to again this coming year. Just thought this blog was helpful in getting some tips and maybe using it in the competition. The first part of the blog talks about capture the flag, which I am not really good at and need to practice that if I only want to get better at it. From my understanding of what capture the flag is gathering information or finding out what certain data is from a piece of information given to you. I think capture the flag is a great way of increasing your skills as an IT professional. Learning how to capture the flag can be somewhat difficult if you are trying to do it on your own. My suggestion would be to get with someone who is fairly good at it and work with that individual and get better at it. Also in a competition environment like the CCDC I would only have the strong individual working on capture the flag and get all of those knocked out real fast so you can get your points. The blog also talks about before you begin the competition and kind of list some guidelines to follow. I think that they are very helpful what was put out. It was things from who is going to be the team organizer, who is good at what operating systems, who are the strong players...
