Your Psychosocial Health
Susan A. Otroba
January 24, 2016

After assessing my scores on the Personal Health Assessments for this assignment, I am concerned that my results show I not coping well and more stressed then I appear. Psychologically I am not coping well, my scores were on the higher median, apparently this is causing stress and I am unable to sleep well at night. The way that a person manages stress can have a big impact on the body’s physical and psychological well-being. Stress can effect one’s body in a bad way or in a good way; some of the reasons for stress are to keep the bodies brain thinking about the right things. If it weren’t for stress the body would just keep moving forward without the worries of what needs to be done. Stress is healthy to a certain extent and it has to be managed on a healthy level. Bad stress can affect the body in a negative way; it can actually cause health problems if not dealt with in the proper manner. I am going to implement a few things into my daily routine to help cope with my stress. I have already started a weekly calendar of what I need to get accomplished for the week. This will help me manage not only my assignments for school but also ensure that I am focused on the bigger picture. I am going to work ahead on my reading and assignments instead of procrastinating at the end of the week. I will schedule regular exercise and enlist a work out partner to join me, that person will be my accountability partner.

There are significant health benefits for older adults such as myself to maintain physical activity. Exercising twice a week for 30 minutes can lower your risk for cardiovascular disease and hypertension. These are important risk factors to me since I have a family history and currently taking blood pressure medicine. Other benefits are helping to alleviate

...2014 What is Psychosocial Health? SSPE 201 B HEALTH TOPIC Psychosocial health is divided into four areas. The areas are mental health, emotional health, spiritual health and social health of an individual. The mental health is the thinking or rational part of our health. Mentally healthy people don’t have problems adapting to changes, they can easily solve problems and can take care of their responsibilities without having any problems. A mentally healthy person can also connect certain life events with feelings and respond sufficiently. Mental health can also be known as intellectual health. If a person is mentally unhealthy, they can suffer from mental illnesses such as Anxiety disorders, mood disorders or personality disorders. The feeling part of our health is known as the emotional health. Emotions are everyday feelings like love, hate, anger or sadness. People who can appropriately react to their emotions are considered as emotionally healthy. Emotions are influenced by the surroundings, current events and mental and physically well-being. Emotional unhealthy people are more likely to over react by expressing their feelings than emotional healthy people. Your social and intellectual health is dependent upon your emotional health. For example, if you are sad and you don’t want to do anything all day your social health may decline. Emotional trauma can affect the way of thinking or acting. The communication with others is called the social health. People who...

Distress and Alcolhol

...RESEAR CH AR TICLE Psychosocial Distress and Alcohol Use as Factors in Adolescent Sexual Behavior Among Sub-Saharan African Adolescents RANDY M. PAGE, PhDa COUGAR P. HALL, PhDb ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: This study examines the relationship between sexual behavior, alcohol use, and indicators of psychosocial distress (mental health) of adolescents in 6 sub-Saharan African countries using the Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS). METHODS: The sample consisted of 22,949 adolescents from Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe who participated in 2003 or 2004 GSHS surveys. Statistical analysis was conducted to determine whether sexual behaviors increased with levels of psychosocial distress and alcohol use. RESULTS: Sexual behaviors (having sex or having sex with 2 or more people) were associated with both psychosocial distress and alcohol use. Odds ratios showed that both boys and girls reporting psychosocial distress and alcohol use were at higher risk for having sex. Results also indicated that the likelihood of sexual behaviors increased when there was an increase in the number of psychosocial indicators and frequency of alcohol consumption. CONCLUSION: The results of this study are consistent with those conducted in the United States suggesting that sexual behavior, psychosocial distress, and substance use are interconnected. These findings highlight the need for school health education and health services in sub-Saharan Africa...

Hr in Healthcare

...1. Describe the unique challenges of managing the human resources function for your specific organization. One of the main challenges for human resources for a nursing facility is the nursing staff, admissions, and social worker. Due to the nature of the business, caring for the elderly, patients with dementia, etc. it’s very difficult to find the special kind of persons needed for this type of environment. Most facilities have a high turnover rate in nursing, especially CNA’s (certified nursing assistants). This is due partially because CNA’s are usually nursing students, or those who are studying to obtain their LPN (licensed practical nurse) or RN (registered nurse) license. A nursing home is not for everyone. The following staffing standards statistics are summarized primarily from a December 2010 study, “Nursing Home Staffing Standards in State Statutes and Regulations”, by Charlene Harrington, Ph.D. R.N. “Federal Staffing Standards Section 483.30: Nursing Services requires that "... the facility must have sufficient nursing staff to provide nursing and related services to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident, as determined by resident assessments and individual plans of care..." MA Staffing Standards Section 150.007: Nursing Services requires that "...all facilities provide appropriate, adequate and sufficient nursing services to meet the needs of patients or residents and to assure that preventive...

Adolescences Attitudes Towards Mental Illness

...suggests that social acceptance is associated with lower levels of depressive symptoms and a greater willingness to seek mental health support. The aim of this study was to gain a better understanding of the extent to which a group of adolescents perceived mental illness as being caused by physical and psychosocial causes and their degree of social acceptance. The participants involved in this study were eight boys and eight girls with a mean age of 14.06 (SD=0.92), who were randomly selected from select high schools in NSW. Participants were presented with a vignette and asked to indicate their level of agreeance with a number of closed ended questions. The results of this study found that adolescents showed less social acceptance of behaviour that was perceived to be related to mental illness. Furthermore, the more mental illness was perceived the greater chance it was attributed to a belief in psychosocial causes. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Kellie!Walker!11546766! ADOLESCENCES ATTITUDES TOWARDS MENTAL ILLNESS Adolescences Attitudes Towards Mental Illness 3 Abnormal behaviour has been attributed to psychosocial and physical causes throughout history, sometimes as separate entities, although in more recent times it has been considered a combination of biological, psychological, and social aetiology, such as in the Biopsychosocial model of health (Burton, Westen & Kowalski, 2012).
