1.) Interpersonal communication is the informal exchange that occurs between two or more people 2.) Content messages is the obvious message, it is the language we use. Relational messages are usually sent nonverbally through tone of voice, body language, or use of space. 3.) The four types of intimacy are physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. Physical intimacy is the physical closeness with one another similar to a mother and child. Emotional intimacy is created through self-disclosure. When we share our feelings for one another and they are returned. Intellectual intimacy is shared when abstract concepts or other intellectually challenging ideas are discussed. Spiritual intimacy is how people can share their strong faith in God or other higher powers. 4.) The significance of power rests with one person’s ability to influence another’s behavior. Each relationship we enter has some dimension of power in it. 5.) It is important for both partners to feel empowered is because they can decide whether or not to stay in the relationship, and to create a relationship. 6.) What causes tension in the differentiating stage is each person finds ways to differentiate themselves from one another. 7.) The most important public stage of relationship is initiating because that is how every relationship starts off 8.) The benefits of self-disclosure are how we can improve the quality of relationships through it. It is also the conscious decision to share personal information about us. 9.) It is important to be selective with self-disclosure because what we disclosure about ourselves can be at high risk if we do not trust them. 10.)
