The author will conduct her research method with a survey. The instrument that will be used will be an interview with Zmira King-Elbaz, a psychologist at the Lester B. Pearson School Board. This school board has a fairly large faculty and staff (N= 1000-5000), where the author will have a sample of one psychologist (n=1). It is to be expected that she will be in favour of having the street name changed to Doctor Penfield Avenue, taking into account his contributions to McGill University and more specifically, psychology and neuroscience.

John McGregor was a businessman and political figure in Upper Canada. La Commission du Toponymie du Québec says that it was originally named McGregor Street because it was on McGregor’s property in 1867. In 1883, the property was sold but the name remained. Clearly, the City of Montreal decided that Dr. Penfield’s contributions were more important than those of John McGregor, and replaced the street name. Originally it stretched from Rue Côte-Des-Neiges to Rue Simpson, but in 1956, the street was prolonged from Pine Street to McDougall Avenue and runs straight through McGill University’s campus (Les rues de Montréal: répertoire historique, 1995). The Mayor of Montreal at the time was Jean Drapeau, according to the City of Montreal’s website. On April 5, 1976, Doctor Wilder Penfield died in Montreal (Kumar and Yeragani, 2011, p. 277), leaving behind his legacy for future doctors, psychologists and medical practitioners worldwide. The author will be conducting a survey with a psychologist who studied at McGill University, and now works for the Lester B. Pearson School Board, where there is a sizably large amount of faculty and staff (N= 1000-5000). The instrument used will be an interview. The study is stratified, because the interviewee attended McGill University and the size of the sample is relatively small, one (n=1) psychologist. The scientific power of the study is explanatory and the type of data sought is a mix of opinion and knowledge. The interviewee will answer questions and explain their reasoning for the relevance of the toponym. These answers will be based on their own opinion and their prior knowledge of the subject from what they have learnt about Dr. Penfield. The type of data collected is both qualitative and quantitative because the person’s opinion cannot be quantitative, but their level of knowledge is. The type of interview that will be held will be informal and conversational. The questions that will be asked in the survey will be open questions and are not at a difficulty level that will put the interviewee in an uncomfortable mood. They will be able to express their full level of knowledge. It will take place in person or by telephone, and all answers will be written down to ensure complete comfort and satisfaction from the
