What is critical thinking?
Each and every day, we must make decisions that govern our daily lives. These decisions determine the differences between getting into trouble. It may also determine whether we get hurt or make it thru the day with a happy outcome. One way that guides us thru this type of decision making, is critical thinking. Critical thinking is identifying and evaluating evidence to guide decision making as quoted by The Critical Thinking Company in 2005. A person that uses critical thinking would relay a type of thinking process geared toward being aware of different ways of accomplishing a task. The critical thinking process would include, research of more than one resource to make a well informed decision. By researching different resources and assumptions, a critical thinker can come to a conclusion based upon the evidence from more than one resource of information. Researching several resources that gives the pros and cons of a subject matter, a reasonable conclusion can be drawn. A critical thinker using such a process as this would then ask questions as to the expected outcome and make a conclusion with caution and decide the best form of action to take.
What characteristics do critical thinkers demonstrate?
A critical thinker will believe that the decisions they make, are the right decisions to make for the current situation they are facing. They have researched the issue, looked at as many possible alternatives, attempted to understand the explanations given for the issue and made a decision based upon the information given and for the expected outcome they are looking for. An outcome that would be the best decision for all involved. This would also be decided in a way that would be an honest way that allows their dignity to remain intact.
