In order to build relationships with children, you will need to adapt your behaviour and communication accordingly. Children of all ages, cultures and abilities need to feel secure and valued and your interactions with them should demonstrate this.
The age Children of different ages will require different varying levels of attention. Younger children may need more reassurance, particularly when starting school. They may also need to have more physical contact as a result. As children become more mature, they may need help with talking through issues and reflecting on their thoughts. You will need to adapt your vocabulary and consider how you interact positively with pupils as you listen and respond to them. language also needs to adapt with the ages of the children, depending on the height of the child, talking at eye level is less daunting for children and young people. Matching the terminology and vocabulary to the age range of the child, so if they audience is younger people then simple language will need to be adapted. The tone of your …show more content…
You will always need to be mindful of this and adept your verbal communication accordingly. Making sure your volume matches the location, using a raised voice on the playground to get attention and a more softer tone when speaking one to one. Having a clear tone of voice is important when undergoing an emergency, and using the correct language of English when communicating a formal context. When you are working in a learning activity it is important that the children are focused and that you deal with any distractions before they interrupt what you are doing. When in more social settings playground, dining hall etc this is an ideal opportunity to develop a positive relationship with the pupils, although you should always speak to them in a way which maintains the relationship of professional carer to child they are in a more relaxed
