...25th Hour Starring Ed Norton A Spike Lee Joint Synopsis New Yorker Monty Brogan (Ed Norton) has one last day of freedom before going away to jail on a drug conviction. His two best friends Jake Elinsky (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Francis (Frank) Xavier Slaughtery (Barry Pepper) and his girlfriend Naturelle Rivera (Rosario Dawson) take him out for a night on the town to say goodbye to freedom for seven years. Monty is having difficulty enjoying his final day of freedom as both Frank and his business associate Kostya Novotny (Tony Siragusa) both seem to hint at Naturelle being the informant that led to Monty’s arrest and conviction. Review I went to see this film on a Friday evening in Olathe. The audience was well mixed in almost every way imaginable. The two constants were age - approximately %90 of the audience appeared to be between 21 and 30 - and the culturally “in touch.” By that I mean most of the people appeared to be skaters, ravers, hip-hoppers, and pretty much anyone who would not shop at Abercrombie, The Gap, or Hollister. This confirmed my suspicion that Ed Norton, mainly because of his role in Fight Club, has become not only a mainstream pop icon, but an icon to abstract artists, such as myself (I consider myself as an abstract artist because of my lifestyle as a rollerblader as I do not consider rollerblading a sport as much as it is a lifestyle or art form). Spike Lee being the director had a bit to do with this “cool” crowd as well. ......

...Defender of the Faith by Philip Roth is a tale of Army First Sergeant Nathan Marx and his experience at Camp Crowder, Missouri with Private Sheldon Grossbart. There is conflict between the two parties due to the fact that the Private is Jewish and his religion comes into conflict with the rules and regulations that the military has presented to them. Throughout the story Marx tries to understand Grossbart yet stay faithful to being a Sergeant to the Army’s military unit and this causes problems in the relationship that they have developed throughout the time spent with each other. This story begins with tension between Sergeant Marx and Private Grossbart due to the story’s main theme which is defending one’s belief in his own religion and the rules that the Privates have to follow when they are in training camp for the Army. This is such a problem because once signed up for military service, you are obligated to do as you are told with no exceptions in between. On the other hand, when one has a strong belief in his religion, “God” has the upper hand towards any proper Army authority figure and when it is time to serve Him, there should not be any exceptions in between. Grossbart uses this to his own advantage because that is the perfect reason to get out of doing military chores. He states that he would rather serve his “God” and that he is at all times willing to drop whatever he is doing to go to synagogue, but, he also dislikes the unwanted attention and......

...The Depravity of John Claggart Depravity is the general badness of character, wickedness of the mind and heart, and also has an absence of religious principles. A depraved individual is one who will do corrupt acts and practices to the good that surrounds them. John Claggart is a character in Herman Melville’s Billy Budd, Sailor, which is consumed with depravity. He is the evil of the story. The following paragraphs will present Claggart’s depravity. The evil nature of Claggart is depicted in the way he looks. The following paragraph is a detailed description of John Claggart the master-at-arms: “Claggart was a man about five-and-thirty, …a vague field for unfavorable surmise” (Melville 2445-2446). He is a handsome man just as Billy is, but his chin has a strangeness about it that Melville uses images of Tecumseh, and Oates to reference it to. Melville’s comparison of Claggart to these two men, who have questionable backgrounds, puts a negative shadow on Claggart’s nature, to separate the evil “handsome” sailor from the good “handsome” sailor. The skin color of Claggart is described as almost without color; the narrator states that he appears to have “something defective or abnormal” (Melville 2445) in his blood. This could be a way of presenting Claggart’s depravity by showing that he has so much evil inside him that it has consumed him and is now without skin color. Billy does not know evil so he appears tanned and healthy looking. Claggart tries to......

Overtime issue on peak day: total wet berries in one peak day: 18340bbls x 70% = 12838bbls processing rate: 600bbls/hr (bottle neck) total working hours = 12838bbls / 600bbls/hr = 21.4 hrs overtime = 21.4hrs - 12hrs = 9.4 hrs. (We found that two shifts can help with the situation, which means that the workers will work 16 hours a day (7am-3pm, and 3pm - 11pm). And in this scenario, overtime should be 21.4 hrs - 16hrs = 5.4hrs.) 6. Truck waiting We assume that trucks starts arriving at 7am, and we already knew the bottle neck will be the drying stage only for wet berries, so Inventory piled up rate = rate of wet berries needed to be processed - processing rate of bottle neck = 18340bbls x 70% / 12 hrs - 600bbls/hr = 1070bbls / hr - 600bbls / hr = 470bbls / hr (a barrel of cranberries weighs 100lbs) And we know bins #17 - #27 (total 11 bins) can hold 3200bbls, so we can get how long wet berries will be filled in the bins. 3200bbls / 470bbls/hr = 6.8......

...I viewed a play from the Oliver National Theatre in London broadcasted on the 31st of January 2015. The name of this play is ‘A Small Family Business’. It began at 7:30pm at the Eileen L. Auditorium in Paraquita Bay. The play as written by Alan Ayckbourn. The designer is Tim Hatley, the lighting designer is Paul Anderson and the sound director is Gareth Fry. The main actors are Jack McCracken, played by Nigel Lindsay, Poppy McCracken, played by Debra Gillett, Samantha McCracken, played by Alice Skyes, Desmond Ayes, played by Neal Barry and Benedict Hough, and played by Matthew Cottle. The play is about Jack McCracken and his entrepreneurial greed after taking over his father-in-law’s business. Upon his takeover he is approached by a private detective named Mr. Benedict Hough, who has knowledge of some compromising information. He later then realizes that his extended family is known thieves and adulterers who plunders the business from their home. It then concludes with a small housewarming party with their trouble, Mr Hough, dead. The acting was a little more developed than I thought. It was on-point in some areas and in others not so good. At first I thought Niky Wardley, the character Anita McCracken, was over acting but u then realized that that was supposed to be the kind of character she was; boastful. At some point in time Poppy’s back was shown to the audience. I liked the character Samantha McCracken. Her part was played very well. I noticed in the end and......

...Chapter 3: Process flow measures 3.3 Solutions to the Chapter Questions Discussion Question 3.1 The opposite of looking at average is looking at a specific flow unit’s flow time, and the inventory status and instantaneous flow rate at a specific point in time. Because flow times change from flow unit to flow unit, it is better to look at the average over all flow units during a period of time. Similar for inventory and throughput. [pic] Discussion Question 3.2 In practice, one often tracks inventory status periodically (each day, week, or month). Flow rate is typically also tracked periodically (even more frequently than inventory status because it directly relates to sales). It then is easy to calculate the average of those numbers to obtain average inventory and throughput during a period. In contrast, few companies track the flow time of each flow unit, which must be done to calculate the average flow time (over all flow units during a given period). [pic] Discussion Question 3.3 First, draw a process flow chart. Second, calculate all operational flows: throughput, inventory, and flow time for each activity. Third, calculate the financial flow associated with each activity. If the activity incurs a cost (or earns a revenue), the cost or revenue rate is simply the throughput times the unit cost or revenue. If the inventory incurs a holding cost, the inventory cost rate is simply the average inventory times the unit holding cost. Fourth,...
