...not satirical like the father’s drastic change which is eerily like the radicals of the Islamic belief. For instance, “he told his wife that, far from being the principal beneficiary of his will, she would receive no more than the eighth portion which was her due under Islamic law. Then he turned upon his children… and accusing his daughter of lasciviousness, because she went around the city barefaced, which was unseemly for any good Muslim girl to do” (3006). Although, all the characters suffered physically and mentally. The one that had the most trauma was Atta whose body was beaten to death by a pair of robbers, “His body was carried by anonymous hands to the edge of the lake… torn and bleeding, on the deserted embankment of the canal…” (3002). Another exert states, “Atta himself, suffering terrible from exposure as well of a broken skull…”...

Swedisch Match

...Case 2: A New Financial Policy at Swedish Match Xavier Dumas (2525562), Reinout Niekrake, Wouter Maas (2525308) Swedish Match is a company that produces smokeless tobacco, cigars, matches and lighters. The company originated from a merger between J&V and Förenade in 1916. The focus of this case lies with the financial policies at Swedish Match. In the past few years, Swedish Match maintained conservative financial policies. They rapidly paid off their debts, keeping its leverage – the ratio of debt to capital – very low. By doing this, they had a credit rating of A- from rating agency S&P (see Exhibit 1 for data on ratings). In September 2005, Lars Dahlgren, CFO of Swedish Match, is considering a radical proposal. By issuing new bonds for a total of 4 billion SEK, and repurchasing shares with this money, he wants to increase the firm’s leverage. Yet Dahlgren understood that the board would raise several concerns about the proposal. In this paper, the pros and cons of this new financial policy will be addressed, based on arguments and calculations. One of the reasons Dahlgren wants to propose this new financial policy, is to reduce its annual tax payments. His expectation is that the tax savings from this transaction will boost the stock price and benefit shareholders. For a 4 billion SEK recapitalization, Swedish Match has to pay 180 million SEK interest in the next year. Since the corporate tax rate on income is 28%, Swedish Match will reduce its annual tax payments...

This approach holds the principle that future data can be predicted using past data information. Here, all the past data known as neighbors. There are various prediction models that have been developed through this approach. In this paper, the zeroth-order approximation method (ZOAM) and improved ZOAM, namely the k-nearest neighbor approximation (KNNAM) and weighted distance approximation method (WDAM) were used. In ZOAM, only one nearest neighbor is used to predict future data while KNNAM uses more than one nearest neighbor and WDAM add the distance element for prediction process. These models were used to predict one of the chaotic data, Logistic map. 3008 Logistic map data has been produced, in which the first 3000 data were used to train the model while...

Developing a Psych Perspective

...Developing a Psychology Perspective PSYC 3002 Unit 10 I started researching this field in January when I decided I wanted to go back to school. I looked at several different schools, several different programs and course schedules. I found Capella University and the Psychology Program they offered. It was a perfect fit for my life. I started in March with this course developing a Psychology Perspective. I had personal experiences to draw from and I thought that was a good start. The most important tool we were given from the beginning is the Critical Thinking Model. This model has helped me pull vital information from some very complicated and hard to understand articles and journals. It has helped me to effectively communicate the information I have found in my own writing. The APA formatting and research tools have already helped me in my current job. I find my writing skills have improved as well as the way I word my documents. I wrote an email to follow up on a Power point I had dropped off. This email was important to my career as we are working to get our General Motors business back. Without this business we will continue to struggle to keep our employees employed. My email was detailed and thought out. I thought about how I wanted to express my thoughts. The response I got back was awesome. It was commented that the way I wrote that email was just “WOW”. So, I have learned to express myself in a more refined manner. Writing in APA format was a challenge for me...

Judge James Deleon

...CRJS 3002-2 Week 3 Assignment Christopher McCrae After my review of case, In re: Judge James M. Deleon – No. 2 JD 08, it is apparent to me that Judge Deleon did not just violate cannons one, two, and three of the Code of Conduct for United States Judges, he did so knowingly and willfully. As I will explain, based on my observations and/or understanding of the case, Judge Deleon abused his judicial power as an elected and court appointed official to impress and/or gain favor from someone he recently met as a social event which 1) were not in keeping with standards at set forth by the code of conduct, 2) compromised his integrity as a judge and the integrity of the Pennsylvania judicial system and, 3) violated the due process rights of the so called accused in this case. In keeping with the parameters of this assignment, Judge Deleon violated the code of conduct by committing the following actions, 1) issuing a stay away order against defendant, Lee Corley, on behalf of George Sdefu and his spouse, attorney Susan Satkowski, without requiring a petition be legally and properly filed for action, 2) issuing a stay away order against defendant, Lee Corley, without previous notification to the defendant as to the reasons why and not conducting any type of evidentiary hearing or investigation to establish any level of guilt on the part of Mr. Corley, 3) vacating the stay away order after meeting with Mr. Corley and his legal representation without...

Capital Punishment

...rights of a persons accused of a crime. The individual has a right to a trial and to be judged by a jury of his peers. When the result of a trial is a guilty verdict and the individual is sentenced to death, the individual has a right to appeal the verdict and the sentence. At the present time, there are virtually no limits on the number of appeals the individual is entitled to and the process could take years. Therefore, the process should be altered to limit the number of appeals to one. The Supreme Court of the United States re-instituted the death penalty in 1976. Between that year and 1995, 314 inmates have been executed in the 37 states, districts, and providences of the United States that allow the death penalty. There are more than 3002 inmates on death row. The majority of executions are of white males. Most executions are by lethal injection or electrocution. In the years since the Supreme Court re-instituted the death penalty through 1994, there have been approximately 467,000 homicides in the United States. Based on that number, 2.8 people will die every hour at the hands of another person. Death row inmates are often on death row for years, some upwards of twenty years. This puts great financial strain on taxpayers' money. While in prison, inmates have many privileges, including cable television, the chance to pursue a college degree, and free health care, all at taxpayers' expense. There are many law-abiding citizens who don't get these benefits. It is appalling...
