Christopher Columbus: A Corrupted Man

...Columbus Was a Corrupted Man A while back in third grade, we were taught that Columbus was the first person to discover America, and that everyone loved him because he was a great person. Well guys, he’s actually not the first one to discover America, and he definitely was not a nice guy. He was an arrogant, selfish, rotten brat that got his way all of the time, which a lot of people think is rubbish. He was a greedy invader rather than a brave explorer and didn’t care what anyone thought. We know now that Columbus was not a good man nor a great explorer. Columbus was as fake as the lies going around that he was actually smart enough to find America. Columbus day should not be celebrated because of all of the selfish things he did to better...

...Example: In 2006, I bought a home, but had almost no furniture. My budget was $1500. It’s a lot of money but, in reality, how much new quality furniture can someone buy for $1500? Armed with a budget, a little research by looking at garage sale ads and an idea of what things are needed to furnish my home; I picked my Saturday target neighborhood. After about 20 minutes, I can upon a rare sale in which the home owner was moving to Puerto Rico and was selling almost of her furniture. She had beautiful, high-end stuff. I looked around and made many offers on a lot of her furnishings. Due to the vast amount of items I was purchasing, she threw in a very nice coffee table for free! I spent a little over $900, furnished three rooms, and saved a bunch of money. In fact, I looked up the prices for some of the things I acquired. Surprisingly, the coffee table she gave me for free retailed at $1100! You can’t beat that kind...

He wasn’t one of the rubbish people who got recklessly get drunk, and he also didn’t doesn’t act careless like the rich (pg. 54, 188). Anthropology

...Anthropology Research Sub-Assignment #1: Archaelogy Project 1 I live in an area where houses are rented out to people and not sold. Our house was the only house that was sold many decades ago to my grandfather and hence we have been residing there since the start. So throughout my childhood I have seen a lot of people moving in and out and eventually met many people in the process. Recently there was a family who shifted to the house next door and they were the sort who would not mingle and were not welcoming either. There are certain norms that our lane has which has been agreed upon by all the tenants with respect to disposal of garbage. There is a huge bin that is placed at the end of the lane where everybody is suppose to dump their waste since the waste management trucks come in to empty the bin every night. It had only been a week since they had shifted and they were regularly disposing the garbage in the huge bin but one fine morning when I was out on a regular walk I could smell something pungent as soon as I stepped outside and I was taken aback by the fact that they had disposed their waste amidst our houses. It was obvious that if it had let it stay there, by the time I come back from the walk the situation is going to worsen. Considering the fact that garbology is of an interest due to my educational background, I had no qualms in diving in. I ensured the fact that I wear gloves and a mask to protect myself from any bacterial attack. I also had waste...

Abc in the Public Sector

...Activity Based Costing in the Public Sector By: Brandy Medina Public sector organizations at all levels and of all types are facing intense pressure to do more with less. Governments at all levels in almost all the countries in the world are feeling some kind of pressure. The pressure on spending comes from many sources, i.e. from politicians aiming to win taxpayers’ approval. There is pressure from the competition with other cities to attract homebuyers or with other counties, states or nations to attract businesses. In the United States, the cities don’t just compete against other cities – each city competes against its own suburbs, and the suburbs often have an advantage in attracting residents and businesses. They may offer lower taxes, better schools and less crime. As residents and businesses relocate, the cities and towns they departed from lose a little more of their tax base. Less money is available unless tax rates are raised. Additional pressure may come from declining demand, regardless of the reasons. An example is rural road maintenance. In these cases, economies of scale are less easily achieved, and the final costs become more expensive. In the United States, the federal government is shifting some responsibilities to state and local governments but providing only limited funding to fulfill those obligations. Regardless of where the pressure is coming from, the message is: better, faster, cheaper – hold the line on taxes, but don’t let service slip. Meeting...

Hey World

...Fact sheet DECLARED CLASS 2 PEST ANIMAL Feral cat ecology and control A descendant of the African wild cat (Felis silvestris lybica), the common ‘house’ cat (Felis catus) has now been domesticated for about 4000 years. Although the domestic cat has a long history of association with humans, it retains a strong hunting instinct and can easily revert to a wild (feral) state when abandoned or having strayed from a domestic situation. Semi-feral cats live around dump sites, alleys or abandoned buildings, relying on humans by scavenging rubbish scraps and sheltering in abandoned structures. The true feral cat does not rely on humans at all, obtaining its food and shelter from the natural environment. Declaration details The feral cat is declared as a Class 2 species under the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002. Declared species represent a threat to primary industries and natural resources, and have a social impact on other human activities. Legislation describes a feral cat as one that is not fed and kept by someone. The word ‘kept’ specifically means that the cat is housed in a domestic situation. PA26 June 2012 Description and general information The feral cat differs little in appearance from its domestic counterpart; however, when in good condition, the feral cat displays increased overall muscle development, especially noticeable around the head, neck and shoulders, which gives the animal a more robust appearance. The average body weight...

Orwell, George - Shooting an Elephant Original

...Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell New Writing, Autumn 1936 IN Moulmein, in lower Burma, I was hated by large numbers of people—the only time in my life that I have been important enough for this to happen to me. I was sub-divisional police officer of the town, and in an aimless, petty kind of way anti-European feeling was very bitter. No one had the guts to raise a riot, but if a European woman went through the bazaars alone somebody would probably spit betel juice over her dress. As a police officer I was an obvious target and was baited whenever it seemed safe to do so. When a nimble Burman tripped me up on the football field and the referee (another Burman) looked the other way, the crowd yelled with hideous laughter. This happened more than once. In the end the sneering yellow faces of young men that met me everywhere, the insults hooted after me when I was at a safe distance, got badly on my nerves. The young Buddhist priests were the worst of all. There were several thousands of them in the town and none of them seemed to have anything to do except stand on street corners and jeer at Europeans. All this was perplexing and upsetting. For at that time I had already made up my mind that imperialism was an evil thing and the sooner I chucked up my job and got out of it the better. Theoretically—and secretly, of course—I was all for the Burmese and all against their oppressors, the British. As for the job I was doing, I hated it more bitterly than I can perhaps make...

Meals On Wheel Analysis

...Week one at Meals on Wheels, and now for a taste of freedom and boiled cabbage, cruising the mean streets of Nowra. The first step was cleaning my car. The rubbish in the car has moulded itself into every nook and cranny over the years. I felt like I was a new breed of automotive palaeontologist as I uncovered the debris that defined the last 10 years of my life. It turned out the debris was as dull as my last 10 years. I parked at the back of the Meals on Wheels building, and my old Holden fitted in nicely with the eclectic collection of automotive misfits that comprised the Meals on Wheels fleet. Then I went into the reception area to sign on for my shift. I gave a cheery “Hi Angela, I hope you are feeling better” to the mound of knitting seated behind the...

...Content Water they say is life, and indeed they were right. With about 70% of the earth’s cover being water; it undeniably becomes one of our greatest resources. Water resources are used in various ways including direct consumption, agricultural irrigation, fisheries, hydropower, industrial production, recreation, navigation, environmental protection, the disposal and treatment of sewage, and industrial effluents. Water has sources and supplies, economic, social, and political characteristics which make it a unique and challenging natural resource to manage. Water resources refer to the supply of groundwater and surface water in a given area. Water resources may also reference the current or potential value of the resource to the community and the environment. The maximum rate that water is potentially available for human use and management is often considered the best measure of the total water resources of a given region. With two thirds of the earth's surface covered by water and the human body consisting of 75 percent of it, it is evidently clear that water is one of the prime elements responsible for life on earth. Water circulates through the land just as it does through the human body, transporting, dissolving, replenishing nutrients and organic matter, while carrying away waste material. Further in the body, it regulates the activities of fluids, tissues, cells, lymph, blood and glandular secretions. An average adult body contains 42 litres of water and with just...

The eggs of Culex bunch together creating a ‘raft’, Aedes eggs float individually and Anopheles eggs have floats. Larvae are the second stage. The larvae of Anopheles rest equivalent to water surface, breathing with specific hair. Differed with larvae of Culicine in which it has long siphon and rest at an angle to the water surfaces. Pupae are the third stage. Both pupae are vigorous and do not feed. Adult is the fourth stage in which can be identified through the resting angle. The Anopheles adult rests at an angle while Culicine rests equivalent to surface (Awoke & Kassa, 2006). Decrease/eliminate processed carbs. They do nothing for you outside of creating a favorable...
