On a warm summer’s day I have decided to go for a drive and visit the place that always seems to fill my heart with delight; a place where all my worries, frustration, obligations, and the pressures of life melt away. I have always enjoyed the calm and serene feeling of nature, so for me this was the perfect discovery. My own little secret spot and hide away from it all. Upon arriving I travel through a long narrow rocky pathway hidden by abundance of greenery such, as scrubs and tall grass to a small beautiful secluded area on Banana Bay beach. As I scroll along its shores tiny soldier crabs can be seen scattering about the milk white sand; filled will pebbles that seem to be arranged in a pattern of sizes, some are round and small while others are wide and squared shape. The sand beneath my feet is soft and smooth as the calm atmosphere encircles me. The sun is warm and illuminates the endless waves as their rhythmic pounding fills the air, flowing forward to reveal its sudsy unity of white covering the big flat rocks in its path. I look into the distant endless airy blue sky filled with clouds that form pictures of faces and stout figures; the sky seems to be in unity with the sea. I watch the fluttering shadows of wonderful white creatures with long black beaks and, short dark brown legs as they hunt and devour the crumbs left behind by previous visitors. I long to embody them as they soon drift endlessly in the wind without a care, leaving echoes of their high pitched screeching noises behind. As I walk further down its narrow path there is a cluster of boulders that encloses the end of it creating a natural fencing. I lounge upon it and view the small white boats in the distant, floating among them are orange buoys they seem to be playing a game of peekaboo with their bobbing motion. I watch the boats sail further and further into the distance

Worst Day In America

...After reading both articles in this week’s reading assignments I have to say that I liked the second article by Hunter Thompson better, it not only kept my attention more, but it was relatable. The author provided a real look into how Americans felt the days following the worst day in America. The author provides a powerful narrative on how his day started out normal just like every other american did, however, the events that played out on TV quickly changed that. In fact, I conclude that those events quickly changed us all. It brings me back to the events of the day and I can say that living in the United States I remember 9/11/2001 like it was yesterday. Like many Americans, I can and always will, remember where I was and what I was doing...

I look at the photo. His fragile, skeletal form sinks into the armchair that lives downstairs, almost swallowing him. Sometimes I regret moving back into our house after all that's happened, but deep down my love for him still exists, even though he will never have the chance to hear me say it. I glance down at my left hand and my eyes fix on the wedding ring on my fourth finger. I don't know how to take it off. I don't know if I can sever the tie I have with him - had with him. Going To America Monologues

...blissful rainy days, the kind of day where you think nothing bad could happen. Inside my home it was warm and comforting even though it was small. I was asleep when the phone rang; I knew it was going to be my sister again so I didn’t even bother to pick it up. At the time she wouldn’t stop begging me to go to America to visit her or even stay if I wanted, but I would definitely not leave the comfort of everything I had. I mean I had my husband, my family, and my life built here and I knew that going to America would mean starting all over. I remember being lost in my thoughts when I realized my husband wasn’t home, It was a little odd because at that moment I was pretty sure he didn’t have work. Once Upon a Time

...2013 Once Upon A Time I am a lifelong Disney enthusiast; I know everything there is to know about Disney movies, theme parks, and culture. Some people would say that I am obsessed, but I just think of myself as a huge admirer. At the young age of six, I took my first trip to Walt Disney. A big part of who I am is my love for Disney culture. From the day that my mom put in Toy Story, my enthusiasm for Disney spread like fire and, once kindled, blew into a flame. As a kid, I was curious to see, learn, and do just about everything. When I watched movies like Aladdin or Jungle Book, I was captivated by the great characters, the songs, and the exotic, faraway lands the movies introduced. My mom would play Aladdin, and I would watch the entire movie, then go to my neighbor’s house across the street, and go to my friend Ian’s house, and tell him, “We need to go explore!” I was convinced that if Ian and I walked far enough, we would come across a desert like in Aladdin, or a mysterious jungle with singing monkeys. Watching Disney movies really sparked my enthusiasm for exploring and for traveling. As soon as I started high school, I g heavily involved myself in foreign language and student clubs like Student Council and Science Club. Spanish introduced me to other parts of the world, which I found appealing because of my urge to see other places. My open-mindedness, curiosity, and enthusiasm for travel can be linked to my early interests in characters that I found appealing, like Wendy...

A Day When

...A DAY WHEN EVERYTHING WENT WRONG Sandy Smith AIU ONLINE Tuesday, June 14, 2011 will always be remembered as a day when everything went wrong. I never in a million years could have predicted this day. I woke up late, which rarely ever happens and the day went downhill from there. I am extremely blessed and thankful to be able to tell my story. I woke up late on this day. I needed to be up by 8:00 am; instead I did not wake up until 9:30 am. I had a breakfast date with a friend at 10:00 am. Needless to say, I had to call her to reschedule since I was not going to be on time. She seemed slightly irritated with me, because this was the second time I had to reschedule. Since I missed my breakfast date, I decided to do a few loads of laundry before going to work at 1:00pm. After putting my first load into the wash, I went to the kitchen to make coffee. I went to get the coffee canister only to realize I was out of coffee. Feeling somewhat defeated, I sat at the kitchen table pondering the events of my morning, thus far. After sitting in the kitchen for about forty minutes or so, I went to put the laundry into the dryer. The dryer had blown a fuse and would not operate. At this point, I seriously thought, this has got to be Some type of bad dream that I was having. I did not know whether to laugh or cry at the events of the day. I did neither. After a while it was time to prep for work. I got ready for work, and even...

You would think it would be just the opposite coming to a northern climate, but the sun seemed, in fact, much bigger and brighter. We had made it. What an unbelievable adventure, but we had finally made it to the United States. The airport seemed like a hive of honeybees buzzing about in hurried chaos. I told my children, “Stay together. We have to keep an eye out for Aunt Emmy. She will be picking us up.” My kids were so young, all they did was look and laugh in their playful way. They had no idea of the significance of our trip. ...Personal Essay Whenever I think of my parents, I think of many things. I think of the future and the past, I think of the years we spent together and the funny moments. From as far back as I can remember, I saw my dad everyday but not often because he used to come home from work late, and at that time I used to be asleep. However, my mom was there most of the time. On weekends two of my uncle’s, my aunt, and my grandfather come to our house. The adults go to the living room and they either talk about their week, about family related, or politics. My brother and I enjoyed playing with our cousins, but at the same time my dad insisted that I should stay with the adults. My sister helped my mom in the kitchen. As soon the food was ready we all would go and help my mom to get the food on the table. It would take my mom all morning just to make Arabic food;dolma, kabab and some rice . Yet she would be last one that starts eating. At the table everyone would be busy either eating or passing the food. Burnt Biscuit

...A lesson we all should learn. When I was a kid, my Mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my Mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! All my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my Mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that ugly burned biscuit. He ate every bite of that thing...never made a face nor uttered a word about it! When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my Mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said, "Honey, I love burned biscuits every now and then." Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your Mom put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides--a little burned biscuit never hurt anyone!" As I've grown older, I've thought about that many times. Life is full of imperfect things and imperfect people. What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each other's faults and choosing to celebrate each other’s differences is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship. And that's my...
