A Diamond Personality The case study titled “A Diamond Personality,” speaks of Oscar Rodriquez and how he became successful. Oscar Rodriquez lived in Puerto Rico, he moved from a non-English-speaking country to an English-speaking country. He came to the United States with a dream and goal. He went to school to further his education, and he worked at the local mall. Mr. Rodriquez was in the right place at the right time because of what happened to him and how he became successful. His can contribute his success to the advice given him from his roommate’s girlfriend. She sparked his interest in selling diamonds; she suggested that he should work in the diamond business. Mr. Rodriquez decided to work for a local jeweler. He had a goal in mind and continued to strive toward that goal. He continued his education and received his Diamonds and Diamonds Grading certification. In his current job Mr. Rodriquez realized that by working with the local jeweler, he would not achieve his goal. He began to explore other business options, and learned everything he needed to know about diamonds. Mr. Rodriquez grew tired of working for other jewelers and became discouraged. “He told himself that he would never become anything if he continued to work in his present job” (The Gainesville Sun, 2008, p. 2). When he decided to sell diamonds on the Internet, several of his friends began to doubt and discourage him. They made comments such as he would not be able to sell diamonds on the Internet. His friends also told him that he would not survive this sort of business venture. Mr. Rodriquez did not let the discouraging comments discourage him. He continued to pursue his dream and his goal. After taking a year off to reorganize his life, Mr. Rodriquez began pursuing his goal, and this time he did not let anyone discourage him. If Mr. Rodriquez had to be tested on the Big Five Dimensions he would score very high in the conscientious area because of the extra effort he put into reach his dream and goal, even when the chips were down, and he did not believe in himself. His score on extroversion would also be a very high score because he had the skills and drive to go farther in his endeavors. in the beginning, Mr. Rodriquez was discouraged because he lacked creativity and social qualities, he may receive a low score in openness. He was not very open with others concerning his dreams. The core self-evaluation, Mr. Rodriquez would receive a high score; he had control over what he wanted to do and how he would achieve them. Mr. Rodriquez always set his goals and standards high. When he attempted his online business, the community began to discourage him again; they told him that this was not a smart business venture. He continued to march toward his goal. Mr. Rodriquez has a proactive personality because his personality gave him the career of his dream, and he became very successful. “Personality tests are very interesting in the fact that they can sometimes help determine how a person would be influenced in their life to make a success of it or end up failing as what they try, Mr. Rodriquez did not appear to be an outright extrovert or nor did he show the characteristics of an introvert. He was more in the middle of the road. When it comes to being agreeable, he definitely made the right choice when he got the job working for jewelry store even though he had no idea about the jewelry” (Keller, 2007, p. 70). This job started his passion, and his success in life. He was a very conscientious person because he thought through what he wanted in life. He achieved his dream and his goal, and today he has one the largest Internet diamond businesses in the world. “Mr. Rodriquez’s company Abazias has continually reinvested in the infrastructure of the websites with his customers in mind. His company has become one of the nation’s leading international discount diamond and loose diamond dealers on the internet and one of the few public companies in this burgeoning online industry” (Kollaras 2004, p. 1-2). The company has set the pace for other online diamond dealers to follow his strategies in marketing and promotions. Mr. Rodriquez believes that Internet diamond sales are an investors dream. Oscar Rodriquez was a man who followed his dreams, never letting anyone or anything take it away from him and today he is one of the most influential men in the Internet diamond business.

...Running head: DIAMOND PERSONALITY Diamond Personality 11/09/11 Belinda There are a few principles for positive interpersonal communication that I see as very important. There is a sense of the richness of communication on a face to face level, is much more effective and personal. You experience the conversation on a higher level. You are physically seeing the facial expressions, body language, and movements of the person in which you are sharing this conversation with. In my culture, we kiss and hug each other at each visit. This means a lot in my culture, it makes your conversation much more meaningful. In relationships you allow yourself to advance to a much more intimate and personal level when you spend time together, in person. I believe that at work we create a option to work closer as a team by meeting in person, rather than through email or video conferencing. When we talk about interpersonal communication, there is a certain process that is followed. According to (Reference.com) “The basic process of communication begins when a fact is observed or an idea formulated by one person. That person (the sender) decides to translate the observation into a message, and then transmits the message through some communication medium to another person (the receiver). The receiver then must interpret the message and provide feedback to the sender indicating that the message has been understood and appropriate action taken.” So, in more simple terms, the sender...

Diamond Personality Paper

...INTRODUCTION Content (or need) theories of motivation focus on factors internal to the individual that energize and direct behavior. In general, such theories regard motivation as the product of internal drives that compel an individual to act or move (hence, "motivate") toward the satisfaction of individual needs. The content theories of motivation are based in large part on early theories of motivation that traced the paths of action backward to their perceived origin in internal drives. Major content theories of motivation are Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Aldermen’s ERG theory, Herzberg's motivator-hygiene theory, and McClelland's learned needs or three-need theory. DEFINITIONS Motivation is one of the most frequently researched topics in Organization Behavior. The term motivation is derived from the Latin word movere, meaning "to move." Motivation is the study of why people think and behave as they do. It is the driving force behind human behavior. It is the forces acting on or within a person that cause the arousal, direction and persistence of goal-directed, voluntary effort. Many people incorrectly view motivation as a personal trait that is, some have it and others don’t. In practice inexperienced managers often label employees who seem to lack motivation as lazy. Such a label assumes that an individual is always lazy or is lacking in motivation. Knowledge of motivation tells us that this just isn’t true. Think about Kim Jong II. The man is highly motivated, just...

Out of the three types of organizational justice, bullying most closely resembles interactional justice in which the individual’s perception of the degree to which he or she is treated with dignity, concern and respect. What one person may see as unfair another may see as perfectly appropriate 2. What aspects of motivation might workplace bullying reduce? For example, are there likely to be effects on employee’s self efficacy? If so, what might those effects be? Ans. Workplace bullying may reduce an employee’s esteem, safety and security, and self actualization according to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Workplace bullying can also affect one’s self efficacy. An employee with low self efficacy, when bullied, can experience a decline in their already low self efficacy which may decrease his/her need for achievement, need for power, and need for affiliation based on McClelland’s theory of needs. There are not too many people, which if they are being bullied would want to achieve a new position, attain power, or even want to belong to such a company where other employee’s are bullies. 3. If you were a victim of workplace bullying, what steps would you take to try to reduce its occurrence? What strategies would be most effective? What strategies might be ineffective? ...Malaysia, Habib Jewel, the company started its business in 1958. The first shop was set up in Penang on the bustling Pitt Street, then known as “Jewellers’ Corner”, by the founder Datuk Haji Habib Mohamed Abdul Latif. From the start, Habib did things differently. When gold was the mainstay of jewelers, Habib sold diamonds. Years later, when the island turned into a beloved destination for visitors, Habib then soon spread its wings beyond Penang. Under the helm of our founder's son, Dato’ Sri Meer Sadik Habib, the company’s retail business soon flourished. Habib opened first shop outside of Penang in Kuala Lumpur and quickly gained a loyal following.   The brand’s growing popularity beckoned the need for more showrooms and the decision was made to raise funds through a listing exercise. Habib had evolved from a family business to become Habib Corporation Berhad, making history as the country’s first public listed jeweler in 1998. Several years later, the company was taken private after a strategic corporate exercise. With more than 55 years of rich history, we are committed to scaling new heights for our customers. Approaches to Psychotherapy and Existential Theory

...Approaches to Psychotherapy and Existential Theory Bonnie Cole Abstract This paper seeks to explain the concept of psychotherapy, and the dominant psychotherapeutic methods used for the treatment of individuals. These methods are: psychoanalytic, humanist, behavioral, and cognitive (jointly called cognitive-behavioral therapy, or CBT). I further explore existential psychotherapy, as it is the method I found most appealing in my research. I included quotations from several journal articles, and from our textbook, “Discovering Psychology, Fifth Edition”. Approaches to Psychotherapy and Existential Theory Psychotherapy is an official term that normally goes by different names: counseling, treatment, psychiatric therapy, even head shrinking. They all mean the same thing, and have a common goal. Psychotherapy seeks, through the use of trained professionals, to help individuals improve their mental health using a variety of different approaches. A much more comprehensive definition can be found in the textbook Discovering Psychology, Fifth Edition, which states that psychotherapy is: “The treatment of emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal problems through the use of psychological techniques designed to encourage understanding of problems and modify troubling feelings, behaviors, or relationships”...

...CJA 473 / Managing Criminal Justice Perspective Rodriguez's Diamond beneath the Rubble Rodriguez’s accomplishments did not happen overnight. This kind of success comes from within the person and perseverance for striving to go further than the next person does. Free will plays a noteworthy role in this perspective because it provides one with the opportunity for making choices when it comes to his or her performance and the outcome of his individuality. This suggests that personality is so incredible that one can change based exclusively on the will of an individual instead of relying on any societal standards. This point of view strongly supports individual growth and helps one to attain self- fulfillment. At the same time, the humanistic/existential theory believes one should live his life as authentically as he should or can, but is merely probable if one is aware of the duty that comes from living. This is a person center view because it acknowledges the complete person and how he sees himself if in the world they live, which allow for further growth. “The humanistic/existential theory does not consider that any unconscious forces, indentified by traits, control humanity, or some inherited factors,” (Feist & Feist, 2009, p. 36). The dispositional theory considers other aspects contributing to the development of personality. * What factors do you think have contributed to Rodriguez’s success? Was he merely “in the right place at the right time,” or are there...

...that make up such beautiful pictures. Few people can appreciate the beauty of a single standing flower that has water dripping off its leaf after a rain storm, but many people find beauty after a snow fall. Finding a person who finds beauty in a rock is even rarer. Most people think rocks are only beautiful after they have been polished up, and placed in a beautiful gold or platinum setting. . Certainly there are exceptions to this, but few find interest in the average rock. Normally it takes a child, or an adult who’s in touch with their inner child, to see the potential of the average, dirt covered rock. However through the eyes of a child, each rock takes on a personality, be it a country cousin or a snooty countess. Come and experience the beauty and majesty of a rock, from the simple stone to the classy diamond. On a daily basis people pass millions of rocks, ones that we use as stepping stones in our garden to the pebbles in a fish tank. Many of us will see a rock, but we don’t give it any attention at all. These stones are the lowest class of the rock world. Lacking absolutely nothing and having various character traits. Rocks are available in all shapes and sizes, from large to small, rough and smooth, and available in different colors and patterns, swirled brown, cloudy reds and cloudy grey. Andy Warhol

...Andy Warhol Looking back over the past century or so, there were few artists that really stood out and became household names. One of these people was Andy Warhol— “the soup can guy.” To set the tone let me give you a quote to chew on: “What's great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.” –Andy Warhol Now, right off the bat, you can tell what kind of guy Warhol is, and his attitude toward life. Yes he took his art seriously but if you read his book The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again) you will see that’s pretty much the only thing he really took seriously. Warhol, born Andrew Warhola on Aug. 6, 1928 , to Slovakian parents didn’t come from a well off family. His parents were working class immigrants in Pittsburgh. When Warhol was in third grade, he came down with St. Vitus’ Disease, a nerve disorder that causes involuntary movements and thought to be a complication of scarlet fever, which “changed his appearance and his life forever.” Despite this complication...

Genetics of Homosexuality

...studied poorly, though there are some indications on all sides of the question. Additionally, several studies which were highly flaunted by the media as evidence for the genetic basis for homosexuality have been challenged by the current thorough studies (Diamond, 2006). This proof is considered to fall under five critical categories. These include: * Possible hormone influences * Brain structure * Real genetic studies (GWAS) * Concordance of genomic markers in relations * Concordance of homosexuality in twins Until recently, sexual orientation used to be referred to as sexual preference. Definitely, these two terms represent significant variations in the way in which sexuality matures. A likelihood or preference is a choice of something due to taste while orientation is something that generally defines us (Schumm, 2010). The variations are practically necessary with respect to how legal rules apply to those gay individuals. In case homosexuality is not preferred, but actually is a genetically determined trait over which individuals have no option to, then legal rules should not look at straights and gays differently, since homosexuality would be equal to one’s race, over which persons have no control over (Diamond, 2006). Sexual Orientation-Brain Studies Since sexual allure starts in the brain, scientists first studied the query of sexual orientation by relating the...
