Almost two years ago today I tore my ACL in a soccer game; I needed surgery and a year out of sports. I am a typical first child, conscientious and cautious. I had never experienced adversity before and I avoided any situations where I was not completely certain of the outcome. I felt helpless and lost. Looking back, I now realize that much of my self esteem came from my soccer achievements. I had failed, I had failed my parents, my coach, and most importantly myself.
