“ARIA” was written by Richard Rodriguez who is Mexican immigrants and was born in San Francisco. The argument that was pointed out in his article is whether or not those kids who immigrated with their family to another country need to persist with multilingual education. I can see clearly in his article through his description that how his family intimacy changed due to his language and identity shift from Spanish to English, one by one step.
I like his view from another perspective to the Bilingualist that children are easy to confuse about their identity from the different languages they ned to speak in the different occasions(public places and private places like home), especially combined with his personal experiment. The question for me is that the main painful for him is his family intimacy was broke since he started to speak in English following what he describes in the article, and also he supports the idea that children are better to study only one public language. I think the key point of this situation is the culture shock that brings from the different language, or not studying more than one language. His parents cannot speak English fluently as native speakers, so if as his idea that he had not accepted bilingual education and only learned English, can I understand that his family intimacy even won’t be possessed since he was born?
