Young adults must learn that life is full of obstacles and challenges, like dealing with school, work, and family. Sometimes those challenges can have devastating effects on young adults minds and bodies. In order to overcome life's challenges young adults need to learn how to manage time, how to manage stress, and how to be flexible. I had to implemant each of these skills at the same time when I suddenly had to move into a new home. Unfortunatlely, I was evicted from my home in September, 2010. My children's father and I seperated; therefore I couldn't pay the rent. I knew the eviction was coming, but I was not ready to face the consequences. I was now a single mother, with two children and no where to live. I knew I had to do something and do it quick. With this in mind, I began looking for a home when the eviction was finalized. I had a place in mind that I had called about two months prior to my eviction, when I realized that my children's father and I would possibly be separating. I called the woman back in regards to the home I had inquired about before. It just so happens that the home was available and ready to move into. She said, "If you can come up with the first months rent and the security deposit by the end of the week, the house is yours." I borrowed money for the security deposit and the rent, but now I had to find a way to move into this new home within a one week time frame. During the second week in September, 2010 I began moving into my new home, with only one week to do so. I did not have the time to take off of work, find a babysitter or pay a moving company to assist me with moving. I can recall not being able to get enough sleep, working long days and hours, and working a six day work week. Not only did I have to somehow continue working, but I also had to bring my two young children along eith me as I moved and traveled. My children were ages one and seven, which made moving even more complicated and time consuming. At this time, the one week move seemed like a long and never ending journey. Each day I would work a ten hour shift from six o'clock in the morning until four-thirty in the evening. After work I would pick my children up from daycare and then begin to load up the hauling trailer with my household items. I would sometimes make two trips to my destination, depending on the size of the loads. I would continue with this until approximately ten o'clock at night. I'd later put the children to bed, and therefor allowing myself to get a few hours of sleep before the process had to be repeated the following day. Finally, the day had come when the move was finally complete. I had moved everything from my old home into my new home. The children were happy and so was I. It felt great to experience this moment of relief. I can remember when I first learned that I had to move and how long of a process that it seemed it would be. I thank God for allowing me to manage my stress and be flexible throughout the process. Now that I look back at the past, I know that it was all worth it. I was always told that if there is a will, there is a way. I had the will and way.

Hamlet’s Struggle with Life and Death

...Hamlet’s Struggle with Life and Death In Act III, scene I of Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, the thematic imagery, along with the symbolic use of syntax and diction that Shakespeare uses helps convey Hamlet’s state of mind as troubled and as having a painful view to life which, overall, is subtly expressed with weakness as he talked about death. Death is a major theme in Hamlet and through Shakespeare’s astonishing words in his “To be, or not to be,” soliloquy; it is obvious that Hamlet is conveyed as a troubled character. He is unsure about death. “To be, or not to be, that is the question:” (line 1), proves that Hamlet is troubled because the use of a colon is a sign that he is not only answering his own question, but he is expressing opposing views about life thus leaving him with an unsure decision about suicide. He answered himself by saying: “Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer/ The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune;” (Lines 2-3.) This imagery shows that Hamlet questions the honor of death, and since he is open to death he does not realize whether it would be honorable to go through the act of committing suicide or if it would be considered a sin. This makes him have a troubled state of mind because he has these two opposing views of death floating in the vastness of his thoughts. The first sentence of his soliloquy finishes with: “Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, / And by opposing, end them.” (Lines 4-5.) Hamlet still questions life and suicide...

Struggle for Freedom

...Andrew Papis 1 May, 2012 Perspectives on the Individual Final Course Paper The Struggle for Freedom Human beings are emotional individuals. Their feelings direct them in one direction or the next, and brutally establish who they are, and what they do. It is the human environment that activates these emotions, and these emotions that in turn impact the human environment. They can be either positive or negative in nature, and are centered with government and society. When life is attained from a human being, their outlook on life becomes devious. Having a positive on life conceives comfort in many people’s lives. When an outside fury comes along and changes someone’s life, his or her attitude is going to change drastically. The many symbols in the poem show a young person who is indecisive about which choice to make and the longing to choose each option in front of them. The symbolism follows the person's indecision through to decision and finally shows satisfaction with the choice made. The first display of symbolism occurs in line 1, where he utilizes the term "yellow wood" to show the earliness of day, reminding the reader of sunrise and also showing symbolically a beginning. Again in line 11, Frost uses the term "morning" to show both the time of day and also symbolize the early stage of life the narrator is in. The repeated use of the word morning reinforces the point of life the narrator is in during the poem. The term...

Struugles of a Single Mother

...English 101 1DB Essay 3 November 4, 2013 Struggles of a Single Mother The struggles of a single mother are insurmountable. In the poem “ Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes writes prolifically about his mothers struggle. Tupac in his music video Dear Mama presents another strong argument on the struggles of a single mother. Both of these works deal with the struggles their mothers went through. However they present a different argument when it comes to the source of the struggle. Hughes poem doesn’t identify what exactly caused the struggle but it is reasonable to assume it was external circumstance. Tupac on the other hand repeatedly identifies himself as the cause of the struggle. Thus the arguments diverge. One argument deals with the struggle caused by external circumstances while another deals with the struggle of single motherhood caused by the children. I feel that the argument Tupac presents in his video is a more realistic and persuasive argument for singe motherhood. In the video “Dear Mama” Tupac uses his lyrics to tell the story behind the video. He uses realism in the lyrics as well as in the video. When the video opens up Tupac’s mother speaks about being seventeen, pregnant, and in jail. After she speaks, Tupac opens up the song by saying that his mother had nowhere to stay at seventeen once she was released from jail. The combination of the words of Tupac’s mother and Tupac himself creates a strong emotional appeal to the audience. This combination of...

Theme for English B

...Hughes’ America was struggling to heal the wounds from the Civil War and reconstruction while facing the struggles of racism and desegregation. Hughes’ personal struggles began very early in life with the divorce of his parents. His father relocated to Mexico because he, as a black man, was not allowed to take the Bar Exam in America. His mother was a teacher and political activist who moved frequently with her husband to find work. As a result of financial struggles, Langston was primarily raised by his maternal grandmother after the divorce of his parents. Not understanding why he was not allowed to live with either of his parents was a source of much hurt for him. “These feelings of rejection caused him to grow up very insecure and unsure of himself” (www.kansasheritage.org). Following the death of his grandmother, he lived briefly with his mother and step-father but did not move with them when they relocated again to find work. As a child, his circle of support was often the small group of blacks living in his community. As a young African-America adult, he found a kinship in Harlem, New York’s New Negro Movement (Harlem Renaissance). While the poem “Theme for English B” is not autobiographical, the insecurity Hughes felt as a young man is echoed in the struggle of the poem’s unnamed protagonist to find himself, his truth, while enduring the racism and struggle for social equality that all blacks were struggling with in America at that time. Theme for English...

The Secret Life Of Bees Allusion

...anything that might save her. Her life was an urgent, desperate struggle to justify her life.” Foer illustrates a young girl who is struggling to find meaning in her life. When one faces obstacles and constant trials at home, in school, or in life, they often seek to find answers for help. The steps that a person takes towards success often involves failure, heartbreak, and conflict. On the contrary, the height of the struggle can often determine the progress and the positive outcomes that a person may have in the future. Similar to Foer’s statement, Sue Monk Kidd, the author of The Secret Life of Bees, incorporates the literary devices, indirect characterization, symbolism, and allusion to reflect the obstacles and suffering a young girl encounters. Through the novel, Kidd manipulates these literary devices to portray the struggle Lily endures in a society where she feel secluded, in order for her to find a place where she belongs. Since Lily struggles to fit into a society where she feels secluded from her peers, Lily...

Summary: The Color Of Water By James Mcbride

...In the book The Color of Water by James McBride uses satirical techniques to criticize the struggles Ruth faced throughout her life. A satirical technique is a technique in which a writer ridicules or criticizes a person, group, institution or event using certain literary devices. As Ruth described the struggles she faced as a child, the author uses satirical techniques such as irony, incongruity and reversal. For example, in the passage it states, “Anytime he had a chance, he’d try to get close to me or crawl into bed with me and molest me.” (McBride, pg. 42). This quote conveys how ironic it was to know that the father of Ruth treated her like that, due to the fact that he was a rabbi or priest who travelled around. In the outside world he...
