A SUCCESSFUL PERSON

What really is success? What makes an individual successful? According to Merriam-Webster mini Dictionary, success is defined as, “the act of achieving something good that you have been trying to do, or something that has a god result or is very popular. The word ‘success’ originated in the mid-16th century from Latin ‘successus’ , from the verb ‘succedere’. The society at large thinks success is all about material things such as how expensive one’s car is, how large one’s house is or one’s social status in the society and financial freedom. However, success does not basically deal with material goods and properties, but is tied to broader concepts such as happiness, overcoming hardship and achieving certain goals.

The true indicator of success is not determined by what an individual accomplishes but rather how the individual feels after an accomplishment. In other words, in order for one to be seen as successful, he or she must be happy or contented. For instance, if I look back at my life since I was born till this moment and I feel satisfied and happy with my current situation, I would consider myself a success. However, if I look back and I feel I could have done better and feel disappointed, I would not consider myself to be a success. Hence, success is directly proportional to happiness.

Also, success can be attained by achievement of one’s goals. In other to accomplish a specific goal, one must start by achieving smaller goals which will later lead to the main achievement. For example, before Germany soccer players could win the FIFA world cup, they had to go through European play offs, topped their group, made it through the world cup group stages, round of 16, quarter and seminal finals before reaching finals and winning it. Success no matter how big or small they are can only be achieved by attaining smaller goals which will lead to the main goal. Furthermore, success is something one soughts after. For one to be successful, one must strive hard and fight for it. For instance, if one works one’s way up in an organization through hard work and selfless services, one would be considered a success. On the other hand, if a person knows someone who mischievously worked that person to the top, such a person would not be looked upon as a success. There must always be the passion and desire to succeed, it cannot be handed over or paid for. If a student studies well and prepares hard for a test, such a student will surely succeed and pass the test. The desire to work hard and pass the test made him or her succeed. In addition, success is also overcoming hardship. No one likes going through rough times and going through pains. Someone who has scaled through obstacles will always feel accomplished. As David Brinkley stated, “a man can be proud if he has laid a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him”. The most valuable lessons can come from failures; Like Dale Carnegie said, ”Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success”. How would we understand the meaning of success if we do not experience disappointment? Light would not exist without darkness, and success would not really be accomplished without failure. But everyone will always hope that his or her failure is only temporary. Again, success is love. This is love that money cannot buy. We need to realize that there is more to success than just wealth and fame. There are so many things in life, that we can cherish and love, just waiting for us to discover them. Such things include love for our family and friends, love for certain genre of music and so on. Love is making a huge difference in the world. Whenever we are planning out something, we should always remember to include something we love. We must appreciate everything and love it whole heartedly. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “to laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition, to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded”. In conclusion, in order to be successful or become a success, we must set a goal, attain them, love a lot, be determined to overcome every obstacle to achieve our goal and be happy while achieving it or while we achieve it. We all want to achieve success and make plans to be successful, however, with a shallow interpretation of success, many people have no chance of attaining it.

How to Become a Successful Person

...How to Become a Successful Person Knowing how to become a successful person is essential for every person. It gives him an easy way for a good living. The characteristics of a successful person is different for every person, it depends on how they view it. My view about a successful person is someone who has the right balance in happiness between family and career and is happy in who he/she is and what he/she does. The first thing to become a successful person is to have skills. A successful person needs to become the specialist in their job area, no matter how difficult the situation is. Next is to have self-confident, never look down in yourself, because when you do it, that's when you will fail. Passion is also an important need, because success can be obtained by many people, but maintaining the drive to reach the goals requires a passion to achieve it. Beside all of that, there is one thing that is hard to be earned. Why do so many of us fail to act? We know what we must do, yet we lack the will to do it. In another word, we lack of the courage. Success cannot exist without courage, many people who cannot be success are those who have the highest training and ethics, but lack of the courage. So what we need to overcome failure is having the will to act. A successful person is not afraid to take risk and make difficult decisions, and the important thing is they are ready to accept the responsibility of it. The next step to be a successful person is focus, creative,......

Success

...defined by the person defining it. The word success can be taken in several ways. Most learn at a young age that a people have to work hard if they want to be successful, and they spend a big portion of their life striving to become successful. Marketers make people believe that having heaps of money, living in a giant house, driving a 2014 Mercedes Benz, having brand name clothes and the latest technology is what a successful person looks like. For the average person, this is not often the case. Today’s economy and job market makes it difficult for someone without a college education to get a high paying job, and most people cannot afford college. To some success is measured by the amount of money they have; and to others success is measured by the amount of happiness or knowledge they have. My definition of success is someone attaining something that they want. In today’s world, people believe that if one has lots of money and fine luxuries that they are a successful person. In many ways, that is true. Money can make one’s life easier and more comfortable by paying for people to do things for them such as maids or an electrician when something breaks instead of doing it on their own. People work through several years of college to get a good high paying job, and having loads of money can be all one needs to feel successful. Money can buy any material item in this world and having nice new things can also make someone feel successful. It may make someone feel successful......

Leadership Qualities

...Qualities of A Good Leader Ledership Essay An efficient leader is defined as a person who is followed by the others. Besides that, a leader has to know about the human nature, and be able to direct people reducing the group's doubts about succeeding. Some people believe that a leader is born that way and there is no way, practicing or studying, to create a leader. They are wrong because inside of each and every one of us there is a leader waiting to be awake and holding on an opportunity to come out. A leader is capable of influencing and inspiring the people around him to voluntarily commit towards accomplishing a certain goal. There are different types of leadership people who specialize in trying to understand this important phenomenon. The only kind of leadership in which a person communicates true self are by way resonates with other people. This behavior is highly individual and situational for both the leader and follower and therefore there are a huge variety of ways in which effective leadership occurs. On top of that, when we think about the characteristic of a leader, we often think of leaders that are dynamic, which makes each of us to follow. We could take an example, such as Hitler.  He did not have the values that we should follow, but he had that inspiration for the country to follow.  If we also stop to think about the leaders today, we do not get the same vision of a leader that has a dynamism that is hard to resist, but rather a leader that has a good......

...always believe in giving or receiving hope. The main character, Michael Oher, is an excellent example of this theme. Uncontrollable challenges and disregarding or abusing given opportunities is what ails America because it damages potential success. A person’s individual background can have a huge effect on determining if they have the chance to be successful. Michael Oher had a slim chance to become successful in a poor family When Michael meets the Touhys he states, “I don’t know where my mom is but I want to protect her and I hope she’s ok” (Lewis 58). This evidence also relates to a story about Maurice Clarett who states, “I grew up in a bad neighborhood and I had nothing to protect except my mom and my brother, that’s all I ever worried about” (Burke 2). Both Michael and Maurice were born into very poor living conditions but they never lost hope in what they wanted to accomplish. This is important because it shows that a persons background in life can sometimes determine how many goals a person is limited to, and with hope in being successful these goals are obtainable. Michael was given a small chance to become successful in life because he grew up in a poor neighborhood and could not get a good education. When Michael is talking to Leanne he says, “I never knew what it felt like to have a family and be surrounded by people who love me” (Lewis 100). This evidence shows that without the support he received from the Touhys, Michael may have never made it off the......

3 Traits

...Three traits of a successful business person to me are to be persistence, organized, responsible. A business person should be persistent, even when there are obstacles to overcome. They consistently remain persistent and don’t give up. Quitting is not persistent. I will need to be persistent in my field because I will constantly be given new tasks and information that I will need to evaluate. Another trait I think is important to be a successful business person is to be organized. To me, unorganized people never seem to have any idea what is going to occur next. They have a hard time dealing with the present, and being unable to find something because of a lack of organization on the person’s part could potentially cause a failure for the business person. I want to be a CPA and having everything in order, everything in its proper place will help me with the career I’ve chosen. A third trait I feel all successful business people and adults should have is responsibility. Too many people today do not claim responsibility for their mistakes; they own want to be responsible for the success. If you are making excuses and not learning from your mistakes, by being responsible and accepting them, you won’t be able learn and grow from them. A simple math mistake in accounting should be able to show the person responsible what not to do the next time. Double check your work, and if the numbers are off, claim responsibility and learn from it. Making excuses for any job is not......

Defining Success

...Defining Success Success is many things to many people. Worldbook defines success as a favorable result or wished for ending through the achievement of goals. That is, if one attains a desired goal through achievement, he would be considered a success. However, a successful character, cannot be produced from one successful feat. The true indicator of success is not what is accomplished, but what is felt. In order to be successful, one must be happy. For example, if a person looks back on his career and feels satisfied and happy with his status, he would be considered a success. However, if he looks back and realizes he could've attained much more and feels disappointed, he would not be successful. Success is directly proportionate to happiness. Without it, there cannot be success. Success can also be reached by achievement of goals. In order to accomplish a goal, one must accomplish smaller goals that lead up to the main achievement. For instance, if a football team achieved its aim to win their district and the state championship, they would be successful. On the other hand, if the team set out to have a winning record, and failed, the season would not be considered successful. Success, no matter how big or small the goals are, can only be grasped through the attaining of those goals. Success must also be sought after. For anyone to have success, they must fight and strive for it. If a secretary of a large corporation worked her way up the ladder through hard work...

Mgmt1001

...Over the past few years, a lot of research has been conducted on intrapersonal and interpersonal perception and their contribution to individual success. Perception plays an important role in both intrapersonal and interpersonal communications. By definition, perception means the judgement and understanding gained from interaction either between two or more parties or within the person himself (Anant 2010, p. 34). This essay argues that good intrapersonal and interpersonal perception is vital in individual success both at university and at work. This topic includes motivational goal setting, accurate self-monitoring, successful coordination of actions and good interpersonal skills. Intrapersonal perception is one of the decisive components in achieving both academic and career success. It involves understanding of a person himself, including his goals, characteristics and his own feelings. In order to have strong intrapersonal perception, two elements must exist: goal setting and self-monitoring. Goal setting is a process involves establishing a set of realistic and measurable targets achievable within a specific time. Smith (2013, p. 20) pointed out that goal setting provides an individual with a long-term vision and motivates him to work towards the respective goals. As they focus on their goals, they will demonstrate optimistic characteristics and feel motivated to strive for their goals. According to Bressler’s study (2010, p. 39), individuals with high motivation......
