When I first saw this prompt, I was perplexed. I do not usually think of myself as an "intellectual explorer" or a deep thinker, but more of a free-spirited person. I tend to live in the moment and take life as it is handed to me. I have always had to read intellectual papers or researched intellectual topics, but I have never seemed to dive deeper into my assignments than what is required for the class. As I have considered this topic and thought about myself, I realize I learn, think, and discuss best when feeding off the energy of others. Debates and discussions with friends, peers, and classmates have allowed me to expand my interests and grow as an intellectual through that.

Beginning my freshman year, I joined Model UN, which opened my eyes to the beauty of a debate. I knew that in order to be successful in the debates and discussions, I had to be prepared with my viewpoints and to be aware of what was going on in the world around me. This, however, has changed this past year. I am currently taking AP Capstone Seminar, a class based on investigating and examining real-world problems. Through this class, I have begun to truly see the connections between what I read and research about in school and what is going on in the world around me, whether that is through reading the Wall Street Journal or the latest article from The Atlantic. My classmates and I dive into each article we read or topic we research, then discuss them as a group, allowing us to share our opinions, ideas, and comprehensions of the works. Overall, this class has not only opened my eyes but has taught me many things about current events and how they affect the world as a whole, both of which I now have many different viewpoints on and have been able to create my opinion
