A s a 28+ year member of the APWU bargaining units while having been asked I have never ever considered exiting the bargaining unit for a managerial position whether on a detail or permanent basis.
All one has to do is remember what happened when they merged the SE MI District and Detroit, I will never forget the look on all those senior EAS employees faces as then District Manager Chuck Howe went on and on about how easy it was to take their jobs away as opposed to when we has to deal with APWU jobs.
While none of them lost their employment here at the USPS, they most certainly were not working in those district jobs they had and truthfully had earned with their seniority. When Chuck cut their jobs, he did so without so much regard to seniority or status. To him it was a numbers game and I was grateful that day for our contract and its language in Article 12 and the applicable craft articles. …show more content…
The bargaining unit (BU) is where I was raised, and that’s where I am going to stay. When a member of this local fills out a 1723 and assumes a detail out of our BU they need to do so understanding all the ups and downs that go with it.
I am not going to go into those details in this message because truthfully, I will not encourage nor will I instruct anyone who wants to vacate a bid and pass their work along to others because they believe they have what it takes to run their
