#1 Honesty and Integrity
Great leaders create an organizational culture built on these two core values and hold all employees accountable to them. Without honesty and integrity as fundamental cornerstones of an organization, they will rarely succeed long term. And creating such a culture starts at the top of the organization. Everyone watches the leader and takes their cues as to what is acceptable behavior.
Effective leaders must also be trustworthy. They are recognized for always telling the truth and for practicing the highest standards of ethical conduct. Subordinates believe them and do not feel that their leader has hidden agendas.
Good leaders readily admit their mistakes. Although difficult to do, this shows they are honest and can be trusted.
Great leaders show they have the best interests of the company in mind rather than their own personal gain, by making good on their commitments. They hold themselves accountable for their actions and decisions, and encourage their employees to do likewise.
Transparency is also important, even when there is bad news to share. Employees know when things are not going well. Trying to put a positive spin without acknowledging the organization’s difficulties will cost the leader his or her credibility. Sharing both the bad and the good creates deeper trust and respect.
#2 Outstanding Self Awareness
A leader must understand their own strengths and weaknesses. All of us have faults and instinctive behaviors that produce unintended results and/or consequences. It is critical for a leader to really know themselves, admit their shortcomings and ask for their help in addressing them.
This demonstrates humility and humanizes the leader. No one is perfect and if a leader acts like they are, they will lose credibility and trust. In the worst case they will be seen as arrogant and intimidating.

...How to calculate an ANOVA table Calculations by Hand We look at the following example: Let us say we measure the height of some plants under the effect of 3 different fertilizers. (0.1) (0.2) n i Ai = 0 Interpretation: An observation yij is given by: the average height of the plants (µ), plus the effect of the fertilizer (Ai ). and an ”error” term ( ij ), i.e. every seed is different and therefore any plant will be different. All these values (µ, Ai , ij ) are UNKNOWN! Our GOAL is to test if the hypothesis A1 = A2 = A3 = 0 is plausible1 . Remark 1 If we have a control group (for example treatment ”X” is ”without any fertilizer”, then we assume that the values of X are in some way the best approximation for µ, therefore we can choose A1 = 0 is spite of condition (0.2). ...Elements of fiction “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker The Color Purple is an epistolary novel by American author Alice Walker which won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award for Fiction. It was later adapted into a film and musical of the same name. This novel is making arguments on the topic “racism and sexism”. The Color Purple is an extraordinary novel that’s full of surprises. Taking place mostly in rural Georgia, the story focuses on female black life in the 1930s in the southern United States, addressing numerous issues including their exceedingly low position in American social culture. Alice Walker’s biography [pic] Alice Walker was born on February 9, 1994, in Eatonton, Georgia. Living in the racially divided South, Walker attended segregated schools. She graduated from her high school as the valedictorian of her class. With the help of a scholarship, she was able to go to Spelman College in Atlanta. Later, she switched to Sarah Lawrence College in New York City. While at Sarah Lawrence, Walker visited Africa as part of a study-abroad program. She graduated in 1965—the same year that she published her first short story. After college, Walker worked as a social worker, teacher and lecturer. She became active in the Civil Rights Movement, fighting for equality for all African Americans. Her experiences informed her first collection of poetry, Once, which was published in 1968. Better known now as a novelist,......

...ASSIGNMENT 1 –ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY The Shawshank Redemption In 1946, a banker named Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is convicted of a double murder, even though he stubbornly proclaims his innocence. He's sentenced to a life term at the Shawshank State Prison in Maine, where another lifer, Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman), picks him as the new recruit most likely to crack under the pressure. The ugly realities of prison life are quickly introduced to Andy: a corrupt warden (Bob Gunton), sadistic guards led by Capt. Byron Hadley (Clancy Brown), and inmates who are little better than animals, willing to use rape or beatings to insure their dominance. But Andy does not crack: he has the hope of the truly innocent, which (together with his smarts) allow him to prevail behind bars. He uses his banking skills to win favor with the warden and the guards, doing the books for Norton's illegal business schemes and keeping an eye on the investments of most of the prison staff. In exchange, he is able to improve the prison library and bring some dignity and respect back to many of the inmates, including Red. Based on a story by Stephen King, The Shawshank Redemption was the directorial debut of screenwriter Frank Darabont. After a long discussion, we have agreed that Andy’s act in helping Warden Norton to launder his money is ethical because he has to follow the orders given in order to keep himself from being hurt and to survive in the prison. For example...

...Maglev trains were great idea. Instead of just using conventional motors for power they use magnets to levitate the train above the track and propel it forward. The maglev trains are just a good idea, than reality. These vehicles travel quietly, quickly and with less impact on environment than traditional trains. Today’s maglev trains use conventional electro-magnets. But, scientists and engineers found well-being super conducting electro-magnets that will make maglev trains even more efficient. In this slideshow, I used a train model to demonstrate some of the science behind a well-being super conducting technology. This model doesn’t show exactly how a real super conducting maglev train would work. The real train would use super conducting electro-magnets. Not the form of super conducting material we show. But, this model does those principles such as magnetic levitation, magnetic flux trapping, the Meissonier effect, plus it’s a lot of fun. This pock is made of Yttrium Barium Copper oxide (YBa2Cu3O7-x). It’s a type of super conductor. Super Conductors are very special materials with special properties under certain conditions. But, right now when we place the pock on the magnetic track, nothing special happens. It just sets there. The magnetic field of the magnetic track which is made of very strong neptunium iron boride magnets penetrates through the pock just as the magnetic field penetrates through anything else. To bring out this magnet’s magical properties we need to......

...MGT 218 Chapter 4: An investigation into how Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) and Lean concepts could improve the effectiveness of Sheffield University and give them a strategic edge. 4.1 Introduction The University of Sheffield (TUoS) is currently among the world’s top higher learning institutions, largely due to its high quality staff members and modern infrastructure. To maintain and improve its status among the world’s elite, it is fundamental for the University to understand and implement Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) to its existing processes. BPR can be defined as the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of business processes to achieve dramatic improvements in critical, contemporary measures of performance, such as cost, quality, service, and speed (Hammer & Champy, 1990). This chapter aims to dwell deeper into how changing or adding on to existing processes and systems can benefit the University and its stakeholders 4.2 The Current State Of The University’s Systems and Processes In the past, many universities have restructured the way they ran their business. One good example would be the Montana State University in the United States, which in 2006 reviewed their old financial and administrative processes and subsequently identified areas for improvement. As a result, they managed to increase overall efficiency and eliminate unnecessary costs. The University of Sheffield currently runs SAP software, and have been doing so since 2007.......

...CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE INTRODUCTION Rationale of the Study The ship is a unique environment that it is not only a place of work but at the same time a home to seafarers working on board. Working on ships entails seafarers’ absence for a long period away from home. This situation and other conditions on board such as the weather and the crewing arrangement may compound the situation of seafarers aboard ship. This results into various psychological experiences that could lead to psychosocial problems such as stress, alcohol, tobacco and drugs, HIV/Aids, and violence, consequently, affecting their health, well-being and effectiveness in work. Each of these factors is correlated with each other that one problem may either cause another or be the result or effect of another problem. This greatly affects to the cadets/cadetes in the maritime world who are new to this profession Towards this end, the selected students of the NSA 16th batch 4th year cadets conducted this exploratory study to generate information on the sources of stress of RCPO cadets on board ships and the coping mechanisms employed to minimize the impact of stress. This information will then be used to highlight the good practices/strategies in managing stress on board with the end view of boosting the quality of RCPO cadets in the international labour market. Specifically, the study pursued the following objectives: 1. Determine the sources of stress of RCPO cadets; 2....
