Re: Cultural Inclusion

According to Bourne (2002), “An inclusion breakthrough is a powerful transformation of an organization’s culture to one in which every individual is valued as a vital component of the organization’s success and competitive advantage” (p. 263). ABC Corporations’ mission and goal is to maintain a multicultural workplace environment while ensuring each employee feel the work they contribute is an asset to the company. Additionally, developing a strategy to create an atmosphere of cultural inclusion for all employees within ABC Corporation will be the goal to achieving highly skilled individuals from different cultures and backgrounds.

. Cultural Inclusion Cultural inclusion in ABC Corporation begins with employees, including those in high positions to be open to new ideas, show co-workers respect, encourage those with hidden talents to speak up, relate honest information about changes, and to understand that no matter the background, everyone has something to offer. ABC Corporation must have a legal approach to cultural inclusion.

Legal Approach A legal approach to cultural inclusion in ABC Corporation is important to cultural inclusion. Therefore, policies and procedures put in place will ensure employees be treated fairly and equally. According to Greg Baldwin, Christopher Myers, and Timothy Bergan. Holland & Knight, LLP. (2008), “Effective legal control environments are aligned with the business (today and in the…...

Abc Corporation Case Study

...CEO of ABC Corporation hires you to advise on how ABC will be placed in the best position to maximise its performance and to maintain long-term competitive edge. Read the following facts, and give her comprehensive advice. CASE STUDY : ABC Corporation The CEO of ABC is clearly a highly motivated individual who has worked hard to build her business and values hard work from those in the organisation. She takes pride in “leading by example” by working long hours and still getting involved on the technical side of the business, making sure that they “get the job done right the first time”. She clearly values productivity and profit. She maintains that she would not have built the business if she had not pushed herself and those around her to achieve progressively greater levels of these. Profits are still looking good, but some comments on the part of two of her fourteen senior staff members have led her to suspect that all is not well within the organisation, and that it is hence perhaps nevertheless underperforming. Recently, she received a letter from a leaving employee in their Operations division. This letter finally convinced her that she should approach you (an expert in project and programme management) for advice. Part of it reads as follows: “My experience is only from being part of Operations, but I assume that the situation is not unknown in the rest of the company. I believe that there is a major problem with the style of management in ABC (at......

Altona Corporation Memo

...To: Subject: Altoona Corporation Computer Products Division Quality Improvement The problems in the computer products division at Altoona Corporation stem from a combination of quantitative and qualitative issues. Quantitatively, there are two main issues: First, current yields (60-65%) with output at 40,000 5-inch disks will not meet the 1984 forecasted demand of 90,000 similar units. This demand, coming from increased personal and small business computer use, will have to be met if Altoona wishes to capture the available 30-35% market share their forecasts predict. Second, the two major problems involved in the coating process (dirt and pocking) have made the coating process itself inconsistent and unpredictable. At least half of all defects occur in the coating process. In 61 samples of 300 units, the mean defective rate for dirt was just under 5% and 3.5% for pocking. Quantitatively, there are also two main issues: First, the one attribute that is critical to quality in the eyes of the customer, visual inspection, varies too greatly. It has become a costly and frustrating quality measure for both customers and Altoona. Second, employee, specifically engineers’, time is being mismanaged and resulting in forgotten projects, needless wage expenditure, and difficulty with experimentation. Together, these four problems will be counteracted with a quality management system that utilizes and builds on the current SQC initiative where the goal of getting dirt......

Carlin Corporation Memo

...I always knew I was a creature of habit and that I was somewhat intimidated by change but that was the extent of my thoughts when it came to how I dealt with change. However, this test gave me an entirely different perspective on me as a whole regarding change. How I handle change and what my shortcomings are in regards to change was quite a surprise. The areas in which I would have presumed to have scored high I actually scored extremely low and the areas in which I would have believed myself to be lacking in, I actually scored high. My change readiness traits that seem to be highly developed and in which I scored optimal levels are the following: adventurous, resourceful and adaptability. The areas that are not as developed to say the least are: optimism, passion/drive and confidence. When it came to tolerance of ambiguity my score was average, not optimal but not substandard either. In healthcare as in any business it is important to develop all traits. The fact that I am not afraid of change or taking risk is a great attribute because healthcare is constantly changing and there are times in which you must be willing to take a leap of faith. Whether it’s implementing new systems, revamping existing protocols or just changing with the times, change is inevitable. However, I do realize the importance of being confident, optimistic and having passion and drive. I will need to work on strengthening these specific traits. However, I believe that confidence is......

Accounting Chapter 17 Abc Virtual Corporation

...According to the Article “ABC in a Virtual Corporation;” in response to the questions I believe the company is operating under a decentralized system. The challenges that the company was facing during the time was control costs. The pricing strategy did not differentiate between small and large orders, so the profitability of the orders varied. They relied on requesting everyone to keep costs down and distributing the costs evenly. I feel that Super Bakery’s management thought it was necessary to install an ABC System because in the article, Super Bakery’s management suspected that costs were not the same for each order. Although it makes sense the costs in rural Iowa would not be the same as downtown city areas, the article makes it clear that ABC is needed for the differential size of the orders. Baked goods are batch goods, meaning the goods are made, cooked, and wrapped in batches because they are perishable and so you only make exactly what is needed before the ingredients possibly spoil. Large batches differ from small batches in that certain batch costs such as measuring, churning, and baking the ingredients. Super Bakery is suited to a job order cost system and not a process order cost system. Process cost systems are used when each unit of product is identical and the production process is the same for all batches. There is no change from one customer to the other because the product is standardized. Super Bakery has a range of products that differ in......

...enabling it to change or modify the rules of competition and increase its supply chain authority. A welldefined and clearly communicated strategy facilitates the acquisition of new customers while retaining existing customers. Strategic innovation, practically grounded, confers authority on the business leader, creating a window of opportunity for the introduction of far-reaching, transformational change. In the broadest sense, strategic excellence is the proven key to value creation in modern business, and as such is of vital importance to the well being of shareholders, employees, customers and society at large. 1 Unfortunately, strategic excellence is not the norm. Robust tools and techniques are routinely employed in large corporations for financial management and control but there is no comparable body of know-how when it comes to strategy. Certainly there are planning tools and project management techniques in abundance. These, however, are of little use in helping business leaders engage creatively with the strategy process. A wealth of detail on industry and market trends often serves as a substitute for more fundamental thinking as to what makes a product or service appealing, or how that product or service can reliably be delivered to the customer. As a result, managers down the line all too often are confronted with the task of implementing strategies they don’t fully understand, based on strategic thinking that doesn’t always appear to make sense. It is a......

Carlin Corporation Memo

...(a) Assuming a straight line amortization, the carrying value of the outstanding Carlin Corporation 5-year bonds on January 1st, 2010 The face value of the bond equals $2,400,000. To figure out the proceeds from the sale of the bond, we multiply $2,400,000 (original issued) by the discounted price of $0.95 which equates to $2,280,000. We then subtract $2,280,000 from the original issued value of $2,400,000 which gives us the discount on bonds payable amount of $120,000. We then take that $120,000 and divide by the five years equating to a bond discount amortization per year of $24,000. The next steps involves subtracting the 2 years of amortization (January 2008 through January 2010) of $48,000 from the original discount on bonds payable amount of $120,000 which gives us a total of $72,000. Lastly, we subtract this final number subtracted from the original issued value of $2,400,000 giving us the total carrying value of the bonds at a value of $2,328,000. (b) The Journal entry to retire the 5-year bond is Debit Credit Bonds Payable $2,400,000 Discount on Bonds Payable $72,000 Gain on Bond Redemption $328,000 Cash $2,000,000 (To record redemption of 8% bonds) The Journal entry to issue the new 10-year bonds is Cash $2,000,000 Bonds Payable $2,000,000 (To record sale of 10-year, 11% bonds at par) (c) Short Memo to the president listing the economic factors that I believe should be considered for......
